  1. What will the anti-fascists of the future call themselves?
  2. Left wing: We should try to build a better world for everyone. Right wing: If you work hard enough, you should be able to get ahead. There's room in the world for both and neither is more right than the other. Too long with a government from either side brings about problems and a lack of balance. Middle ground is generally perceived as not committing to either strongly enough to make it work. This is why most countries in the democratic world swap between left and right wing governments over time. You almost have to to avoid disaster. The last labour government eventually steered us into problems, so did the tory one before that. Eventually this government will fall as belief in them crumbles, as will it in the next left wing government. There is no straightforward answer and those that believe solely in left or right wing politics are foolish imo.
  3. Does doing well, despite not being able to play in our usual way mean that we do have a plan B then? Good news.
  4. What's wrong with being gay?
  5. Even though he just called you a c*nt on national television?
  6. Even so, it's a bit out of order for him to publicly call young people c*nts in a BBC interview.
  7. On about thirty seconds... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17113209
  8. Pompey player finally gets paid! Sadly it's just Huseklepp who has finally been paid by his last club, Bari, who were also in financial difficulty and not paying their players. He really wins the prize for not looking where he's going, doesn't he? According to Bergens Tidende today, Bergen Brann are still waiting for money from Bari, but Bari are still waiting for their money from Portsmouth...
  9. Then you either haven't read or haven't understood a lot of the comments on this thread. The giving of gifts and having a tree, light, decorations etc aren't Christian traditions, they go back a lot longer than that, as does the celebrating with symbols like eggs at Easter time. They've always happened then and for quite sensible reasons that don't even require religion at all. Just because Christianity picked up on them, doesn't mean Christianity owns them. There's no hypocrisy there at all. Even getting married in a church; for many this is the use of a big, splendid building that is at the centre of the community. I'm not religious, but I found a church a brilliant place for a wedding, much nicer than some dull old hall or reception office somewhere. When I was a kid, we went to various community events at the local scout hut, I never did join the scouts or take much of an interest in what they were about either.
  10. Celebrating and giving gifts at Christmas time and celebrating at Easter are both much older traditions than Christmas and Easter themselves. Humans have a natural desire to be thankful at both of these times, the halfway point of the hardest season of the year and the beginning of Spring. I'm an atheist, but I think Britain is a Christian society and I'm very happy for it to remain so. I like a bit of pomp. I also have favourite hymns, so I have no problem with that thread. There's no sense at all to saying non-Christians are being hypocritical to celebrate at Christmas, though. It's always been a celebration then and Christians don't own it, their version has just become dominant in this part of the world.
  11. Junction 9 works with this sort of thing and I think has helped out a few SWF members in the past, for good rates too.
  12. I think Adkins should make a statement now about which players he'll be getting rid of once they've battled to get us promoted.
  13. There are ways of doing this, expatshield for example. People really don't understand what a good thing the UK has got with the BBC. It's obviously not perfect, but it's streets ahead of anything else you'll find.
  14. Anyone saying this has never lived abroad and seen what the alternative is to having the BBC. The BBC is streets ahead of any alternative and most people won't realise exactly how valuable it is until it's gone. I use it for TV viewing, but it is also one of the best resources for me professionally.
  15. Can't help noticing the "We're a bit cynical and snidey about Cortese" (Clotese! Lol!) bedwetting brigade go on about it far more and are far more obsessive than the people who think he's doing a decent job. Club seems to be doing well, most people are happy. Nobody's shutting you up, but you don't half whine on.
  16. I almost exclusively teach students overseas who go on to work on oil rigs. Eight months holiday a year once they start working, with a basic salary plenty higher than mine and I do pretty well. Apparently the catering is amazing too.
  17. You should have a word with Jillsaint, she can raise that much just by selling a couple of cats. I've heard she's pretty laid back about receiving full payment too.
  18. working fine
  19. He can take the Falklands, he can take Billy Sharp, but YOU'LL NEVER TAKE MY BENGAL CATS
  20. Chaplow was on good form when he got injured, but he's been built up a bit too much in his absence, which we've always done (we did it with Oakley and Prutton a lot). It'll be good to have him back, on a good day he can make the difference, but don't turn on him too fast if he's not all you've built him up to be in your head. He's had patches of mediocrity in the past too.
  21. It would take 25 minutes just for me, but, with dropping off at school and nursery, it's an hour and a half.
  22. Having to rely on televised matches to actually see a game, that was actually the best I've seen us for a while, but then we're comparing to games like Leicester and Reading. I'd put Davies as MoM if I were to vote, because he was the only one who did anything exceptional that affected the score directly. I never understand people who vote in MoM polls who weren't at the game though, you should know that being there gives you an entirely different overview of how much everyone does. If you watch on telly certain players can be almost invisible all game, if you're there you see what they do contribute.
  23. This is true, Junction 9 works as a plumber and does very nicely apparently. Very good rates for SWF members too.
  24. I hate those ****s anyway, wish the thing had fallen down and got smashed. There's nothing worse than going for a day's skiing up a mountain in beautiful conditions and then those idiots come on their noisy machines. It's like going for a walk in the Lake District, but with people driving motorbikes around you the whole time.
  25. I haven't read the details so not sure what kind of solicitor you need, but if I recall correctly there was a poster on here called Dark Sotonic Mills who worked in that kind of thing. He also had a medical background so was a pretty decent chap by all accounts. Might not be his area but could be worth dropping him a PM?
