  1. It's effectively a zero limit here, which I like. There's no question of accidentally going over the limit. if you drink and drive you'll get banned. i don't know anybody here who's been caught for drink driving because if anyone has a drink at all, they just don't drive.
  2. A horrific amount, it's probably the most shocking price difference between Norway and Britain and yes, I include the beer in that. A 15 pound haircut IS possible here, but they are those dodgy back street places with faded, sun bleached pictures of men with 70s haircuts in the window. They will listen to what you want, then give you the same haircut they give everyone. If you go anywhere half decent you will pay between 30 and 40 quid in Norway.
  3. I'm a fully paid up member of the liberal politically correct tree hugging elite and although I don't remember ever using the word, I think using "coloured" as a term to easily identify somebody is absolutely acceptable.I can't see why it shouldn't be. The most politically correct way of speaking has to be to use correct language. It isn't wrong to refer to somebody as coloured if they have a different colour of skin to those around them, it's a natural way to describe them. It also isn't politically incorrect to refer to someone as having brown skin if they have brown skin. The only time it becomes politically incorrect is when it is used as an unnecessary discrimination in a situation where it has no bearing.
  4. Christmas celebrated on the 24th here too. Pinnekjøtt (ribs)
  5. I posted about this back in early November, but it was a bit lost on another thread. My wife has been working in avian flu vaccine research. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?33789-Myths-about-the-brain&p=1185920#post1185920 Ferrets are considered the gold standard for research, as they are much more closely related to people than the usual mice and provide much more reliable results when developing vaccines. hence they were delighted to mutate it for research purposes. Incredible isn't it?
  6. Don't know why this won't work as a link, but if you cut and paste the saintschat bit into wayback, you should get a whole caption competition thread started by Keith.
  7. http://web.archive.org/web/20050115001219/http://saintschat.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=6258&amp
  8. The Newcastle one seems better, until you hear Tim Flowers talk about how Le Tiss came to him before kick off and promised him he would hit the towel Flowers had just hung up at the back of the goal. Then you watch the goal again and see where the ball struck the back of the net.
  9. They all sound just like the people who post on this board.
  10. How about extending it to all people who were involved with saints? Nobody's going to mention Ted Bates as a player, probably none of us saw him, but as a saints personality he'd get near the top. Also it'd create place for McMenemy and other popular characters like Strachan, not to mention Rupert Lowe.
  11. That was disappointing, clearly all staged just to make a "funny video". Even down to placing a broken old guitar next to him so that he could smash that in frustration instead of the real one.
  12. Well, of course all opinions on this thread are ******** aren't they? Otherwise we'd have to agree that all British people are basically the same, me, you, Robbie Savage, Dale Winton, Pete Docherty, Thatcher, Blair, Dune, Katie Price and Rupert Lowe, all basically the same.
  13. This is what I was going to post, the German attitude generally matches the British better, but the country itself can be pretty dull, I drove through all of it in the summer. France wins by having a nice south coast. The French lose by being unfathomable to most British people.
  14. I usually buy Nokian tyres for the winter, they nearly always come top of the tests our version of the AA do. Winter tyres are a very big deal over here, it's illegal to drive without them after a certain date. We have to choose tyres with or without metal studs. The tests are well respected and quite vigorous, using snow, ice and wet tarmac. Some of the others excel at one or the other, but year after year Nokian are best over all for studless tyres.
  15. Well the government should never have privatised North Sea oil. Keeping the oil nationalised has made the Norwegian state incredibly wealthy, the economic crisis has not had anything like the same effect over here. In fact, when everyone else was panicking, the Norwegian state began investing even more. Nearly all of my students aspire to getting jobs with Statoil (state oil) as the pay, benefits and working conditions are immense. The conservative government sold it all off for a quick buck to fund their golden era in the eighties, instead of keeping it to secure the future. Privatisation was right in many cases, but not that one.
  16. Is this going to turn into a more distasteful version of Ormerod/Marsden/changed-every-time and Kevin Phillips' wife?
  17. You might want to ask for a bit of help with your native language too.
  18. A 1-0 away loss. In my opinion saints season has collapsed and Adkins has lost the plot entirely. We should never play any two of Schneiderlin, Hammond, Guly or Cork at the same time.
  19. It's done a bit differently here. A property has a viewing and everyone interested puts their name on a list. Then they all start bidding and everyone on the list is kept updated. There can be quite a bit of brinkmanship involved eg "I bid 500k but this offer only stays on the table until 5 o' clock" It can all be pretty exciting, but properties often end up going for far over the original listed price. I had a house built in the end and am glad I avoided that stress, although it gave me a whole list of different things to stress about.
  20. If you want to get an interview, go to the company website and read their visions and values or their mission statement. then write your application to explain what qualities and experience you have that will fit these exactly. This is a very simple method and it is almost guaranteed to get results in applications and interviews as in most companies this is exactly what personnel people are waiting to hear. It's incredible how few people bother doing it, but most companies have what is effectively a checklist of what they want from you. This is the sort of thing that should really be in your covering letter. Also you have to be positive and passionate, let them believe this is your dream job and that it is perfect for you and you are perfect for it. Most applications are dull and unfocused.
  21. I remember "snow days". People over here would laugh at the suggestion of not going to school or work because of snow. In 12 years of living here I've never known of anyone missing work or school because of snow. They also send the kids outside to play no matter what the weather. I've been on strike a couple of times and was uncomfortable doing it here because I was very happy with my work conditions and pay, but that's what solidarity is about I suppose.
  22. I think the point Dune is making is that however many people actually are Christian, The United Kingdom has an official state religion, with the head of state being the head of the church. I always find it odd that although Britain is officially a Christian nation, people generally dislike religion getting into politics, whereas in the US, which is absolutely not a Christian state, it often seems to be welcomed.
  23. Trying to find a way to read this that doesn't make you look like a cock. Is there one or are you really saying what you seem to be saying? Wouldn't random violence against opposing football fans make you exactly the same as the people who attacked him? Maybe they justified their actions because they felt something was being paid back for a completely unrelated event.
  24. It's all hydro here, no nuclear at all, but our landscape makes us a special case. Keep buying our oil though and stop listening to Pap, it contributes greatly to my standard of living. One reason why we don't mind the rainy autumns too much here is that it means a cheaper heating bill in the winter. I've noticed over the last couple of years that Denmark seems to be packed with wind farms both on and offshore, I'd be interested to know how what percentage of their power it's supplying these days. Just checked, 20% which isn't bad for a smallish country that's not especially windy.
  25. More niggly, petty squabbles from Turkish, you really need to calm down and get a nice relaxing hobby. This board has really descended to an all time low with thread after thread of Turkish and Dune bickering with or making snide remarks to other posters.
