It has been proven that wearing red can confer psychological benefits ( viz my earlier post about martial arts scoring, which is referenced in the first line of the article linked above). Clearly that doesn't mean you can bung eleven spastics in red shirts and expect them to do a job on Real Madrid. It might, however, mean that the psychological effect of red has an impact at times which is beneficial. A trial was done on scoring Tae Kwon Do matches. Participants wear red or blue. Historic matches were shown via tv to judges. A batch had the colours altered so the red/blue were swapped. Apparently a significant number of matches were scored in favour of people who had the altered red kit on when, in fact, they had been wearing blue and had lost when the match was originally scored with them wearing the blue.
