I agree with your first paragraph. In the modern era, PFC's "size" is towards the bottom of the second division and the club has absolutely no foundations to speak of. What is interesting is the way there are a lot of big clubs out of the top flight in recent years. This seems to be correcting itself slightly with Forest, Leeds and Norwich on an upward trajectory. The Prem would be so much better with them, Saints, Wednesday, Derby in it.

I think what some need to realise is that this is a comprehensive round-up of all Saints players. There will be an almighty amount of utter turd being described.

Coming second is ok. I don't want to win League One as an end in itself. I wanted to win League One because it gets us out of League One. To that end, second will do fine. Winning the play-offs will do fine, and perversely will probably be more fun. I fully buy into Nicola's ambitions but part of winning is having the maturity and mental strength to press on following a set-back and not having a strop about it and indulging in endless and counter-productive naval gazing.

I couldn't give a rat's arse to be honest. Football is always littered with examples of teams overachieving. Blackpool are a notable recent example. Hull, when they got promoted. Our form since Adkins came in has been consistently of top two level in terms of points gained. If that continues we will go up. Obviously there is a crucial game in the run in against Bournemouth but if we can draw that and maintain our form we should finish second. That'll do.

The time to address that disappointment was when Pardew messed up the start of the season and when we had a bad spell in between managers. It's been pretty clear ever since then that winning the league was unlikely. Adkins points record is pretty good and shows every sign of getting us promoted. Er, but it can and has been for much of the season. If we beat Swindon we will have taken 11 points from 5 matches in February = 2.2 points per game = league winning level.

Sounded like one of our better players last night from the Solent commentary. I think his quieter form has coincided to an extent with us playing the diamond/4-1-3-2/whatever you want to call it. Whilst the "hole" might have been his favoured position in Italy, I actually think he is more effective as a centre forward in this league.
