Thing is, is not only was it not a foul and they then took from nowhere near where it was supposed to be taken but Redmond is completely free attacking their box with Long in support and only 1 defender left covering at this point so we easily could have gone and scored the second. Terrible refereeing, he gave them every chance to get back into the game, which looks very dodgy IMO.

Doesn't cahnge much, though it does show how stupid the money in football has gone, £10 million to like a League 1/2 club is massive, to a non-league club that keeps them running for 10 years and like 10 years ago that buys us a star player and breaks our transfer record, but now it's pretty meaningless to us, even if we get relegated.

I'll be totally be supporting Real, can't stand Liverpool these days, grinning Klopp, their unbearable deluded fans, the saints traitors and they are just all round a hateful club. What annoys me most is the whole saga round transfers where their fans and the media just expect us to roll over and sell players to them like it's our duty to supply them with talent but as soon as another club does it to them it's an outrage and they go all victim mode. Hopefully Real will beat them heavily (against their defence Ronaldo should be licking his lips, facing a centre-back like Lovren in the Champions League final is probably a dream for him) and then Real will announce they have signed Salah in the summer, that would be glorious.

We just need Chelsea and Man City to do their jobs against Swansea and West Ham, that would leave Swansea 1 point ahead and Huddersfield and West Ham just 3 ahead with worse goal differences, meaning 1 win could do it.

Yawn. What a load of complete utter drivel, the guy has a genuine point and you reply with some bunch of tired cliches like you are taking part in a hollywood sports movie. 'in the blood' hilarious, did you get that from a greeting card?

Big clubs are entitled to win, we should just let them...
tajjuk replied to ashnats's topic in The Saints
The whole thing gets tiresome, all the hype and talk, all the big club bias. Like what is the point these days, there is nothing in the game for smaller clubs because it's all about how much money you throw at the game, nothing else. Small club does well, they get picked apart by the rich clubs. Player comes good at smaller club, instantly linked with big cubs and they start throwing money at his agent and he wants to leave. Hate to say it but we need to look at US sports, salary caps, spending limits etc. everyone gets the exact same budget and it's then down to good scouting, good management, building a good team and your youth academy that then makes the impact as to who does better -
it'll be interesting to see what happens with the likes of Lemina and Hoedt, both expensive purchases, both only just into long term contracts. They'll want to go but I can;t see us accepting a loss on them and at the same time can't see a host of clubs paying £30 million plus for them.

I think time to cash in on him even if we stay up, his value is only going to decrease from here, full back is a very physical position and not many last at the top level past their early 30s.

Looks like the club is a bit of a shambles at the moment and lacking direction, this seems a Les Reed type job, not like we are Chelsea and have 40 players out on loan, they could at least phone him and say well done, especially if he is getting favourable reports. I've personally always liked him but thought he lacked pace, but he could be a very useful asset in the Championship, yet we seem to be burning bridges here.

Liverpool won't beat Bayern or Real Madrid over two legs. They are in decent form at the moment, but look at them in the league they are not some super club, they are top 4-6 club who have a player who is having a once in a lifetime season. They still have issues all over the pitch, and neither Madrid, Bayern or Roma will press high against them like City did. Klopp is just good at countering Pep, always has been but Real especially are just a class above them. Ronaldo will score like 4 if he's matched up against Lovren and is facing karius. Next year they'll be battling for top 4 as usual and likely either Salah will have gone onto PSG or Real or he'll just not be as effective.

Not really, West Ham have been pretty awful under him and will likely be relegation candidates next year if they keep him, he's just managed to be slightly less awful than other teams. Same with Allardyce, they have also been awful under him. I'm pretty sure both of those squads would probably be no worse off with the managers they had. We are where we are due to poor management and poor recruitment, not the improvement of other clubs, pretty much all the clubs that have sacked their managers have had slight bounces and then gone on poor runs of form again. And personally I am not bothered about bouncing back up immediately, not sure it would benefit us that much long term, I'd prefer to see a younger manager come in, build something, get some of the academy players game time and time to improve, pick up some gems from the lower leagues and progress from there into a promotion push in a few years where we will be more likely to stay in the league. Most of the suggestions here are extremely short termist, even if one fo those journeyman managers promotes us straight back, none has real pedigree of keeping teams there. if we want to get back into the league and progress long term we need to put ourselves in a position to punch above our weight, make the most of our resources (that means getting players through the academy and scouting well again) part of that will be getting a manager who makes a real difference, I don't see anyone on that list who fits that description.

I think they haven't won in like 5 or 6 and the PL season is basically over, defensively they look iffy. I look at this with some hope, but then I look at Willian and Hazard and just can't see them not scoring against us, which means we have to score probably 3 to win and I can't see that happening either. A draw is probably the best we can hope for, like 1-1, which is not enough.
-
Proven? What like Harry Redknapp or David Moyes? Or any of the other awful managers appointed in the PL this season. But apparently a guy who has got an unfancied team through 3 promotions and into Europe is apparently not proven? trying to be 'clever' has worked before, Poch being the obvious example. I'd rather have an up and coming young manager you will look to build something long term than the list of bang average journeyman managers that have been listed in this thread. if we go down Potter for me would be a great appointment, let him set up long term and do what he wants to do we'll reap the rewards long term. Rowett or Jokanovic would be my other options, but I suspect they'll either take their teams up or get prem jobs. The rest of that list is horrible, just horrible.

Only because Joe Hart circa 2012 turned up, couple of worldies in there.

Today makes last weeks performance even more disgusting and shameful. Even like 80% of what we did today would have won last week. Too little too late, but the players need to at least show that much effort and commitment to the end and we'll see what happens.
-
Both their first goals were lucky as f*ck, Aubameyang completely miss hits it and it bobbles under Cedric, then Wellbeck's weak shot that was going straight down the middle deflects over the keeper. Deserved to win that, just a shame this performance couldn't have happened last week. Oh and the Ref basically gave them four free kicks to every one we had, Arsenal committed about 15 fouls that they completely got away.
-
IMO we haven't looked at talent from the lower leagues, especially the Championship that much, Clyne was very successful, but aside from that we seemed to have ignored this market looking more for the foreign player. But simply our recruitment has been consistently poor over the last 2 years both players and manager and this has caught up with us. The buck sits with Reed and Wilson.
-
Predicting a comfortable win for Arsenal, there seems to be no fight or desire in our team like they still think they are too good to go down. I've watched Palace a few times and even though their recent form is not great their effort and work rate is still there and they deserve to be further ahead of us than they actually are. Even Stoke have shown more fight than us and they are further off the pace.

St Mary's Football Group – 2016/17 financial results
tajjuk replied to Delmary's topic in The Saints
At least it looks like we can financially absorb a relegation. Do worry about how many of our players have relegation wage cuts. -
seems most of our team are not on international duty, both a good and bad thing.
-
He wasn't scoring for Cardiff in the Championship. If he hadn't left us I reckon we'd have squeezed maybe 1 more decent season out of him, but he was in decline.
-
Good news, let's hope he is involved in the West Ham game, he's the only guy who seems able to score and always looks confident. Austin also strikes me as the sort of player that is good for the team, bit of a character to life the other players.

Our best 3 signings since returning to the premier league
tajjuk replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Bertrand, Davis and Mane. Don't get people saying VVD, sure lots of money and was good for us, but over the last year his sulks and transfer saga have clearly had a big impact. -
Shaqiri is their stand out player and is probably an upgrade on what we have, especially as he actually scored goals out of nothing which none of our attackers really do. He's also inconsistent which is why a top 6 club wouldn't be that interested in him. The rest though I'm not sure is any better than what we have, adding players from a relegated club doesn't seem the smartest recruitment policy to me.

Two games against Chelsea, which is more important?
tajjuk replied to OttawaSaint's topic in The Saints
Cup. 1. The league game is a bit of a free hit not expected win, if we go down it's not going to be because we lost at home Chelsea. 2. I'd take being relegated if we won the cup, it's something you remember for years and I think we'd likely get back within 1-2 years anyway. 3. if we do stay up, whatever we do in the league next year it's likely to not be very exciting as we will need to re-build and progress a lot to be back challenging top 6/7 again.
