I mentioned it could have been something to do with the caulker deal, turks said could also be connected to gaston leaving which would free up the wage bill. That seems ridiculous. If he was sleeping or resting, why shouldn't he switch off his phone? And what possible reason could there be for bringing a meeting ahead by 10 minutes, then sanctioning a player for not seeing the text? There has to be something behind this.

When you consider the mess he walked into when he arrived, and the players he lost subsequently, it's actually pretty amazing what he has achieved here. I can't be arsed to check on the net spend, and none of us knows all of the players relative wages, but on transfer fees alone he has to be right in what he said. It's not just the outgoing money, obviously that's a high figure, it's what we've sold to get it.
