Davis being dropped in favour of Gazza was deserved. He got his chance in 4 matches and apart from his penalty saves he hasn't done anything good. Now its Gazza's turn, lets hope he doesn't get debut jitters. Otherwise it will be interesting to see Maya, he didn't have the best of debuts but came on in a near impossible situation. Our midfield and attack look awesome, if our defense and goallie can be decent we will win.

Stuck on the Swedish countryside with internet so slow I can't use my legal stream.... Come on you Saints!

Schneiderlin was very good aswell. But my vote goes to Puncheon. He kept Evra quiet all game, was very calm in possession and but took his direct opponent on when the opportunity was there. Great assist and if not for a big save from Lindegaard he would have scored the 3-1.

Saints 2 Man United 3 - Post Match Reactions
Saint Martini replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Come on, you think Manu getting on top was due to the subs Adkins made? They started pressing us back and after that Adkins replaced out wide players (fatigue perhaps) and Lambert to get more pace upfront. In all fairness they made very little impact but that had more to do with them never getting a decent ball because we were under so much pressure then them being awful. Individual mistakes cost us the game, nothing else. Clyne falling over (when he tries to head a ball he couldn't get near to instead of turning his attention to vPersie straight away. I'm not sure who was meant to pick up Ferdinand but that much freedom 8 yards out is comical, besides that Guly should have come out at Rafael more aggressively and earlier (he left Rodriguez two-on-one with Valencia and Rafael). Fonte made two mistakes in a row, first trying to volley away that cross when he had time and space to control his clearance and then not picking up vPersie. We played a very good match but we need to be able to defend better when under pressure if we're going to take points against the top teams. We won't be able to dominate matches from start to finish and even though Davis makes a good save on the vPersie penalty he was partly at fault for conceding it and he almost cost us another goal as well. Let hope we can play like this against the likes of Norwich, Villa & Reading. Do that and we won't relegate. Play like we did against Wigan in those matches and we're ****ed. -
Redknapp & QPR sound like a match made in heaven (or is it hell). They're made for each other, just like Pompey and their dodgy set-up was perfect for 'Arry. I can't imagine Redknapp and his personality/style fitting in with the current ownership at Saints (and I'm not even taking the fan reaction in to account). Pardew was sacked because he couldn't live with the way Cortese handled transfers and Redknapp is even more of a old-style "I decide everything" manager.

Maybe as a sub if we're chasing the game and need to fire up the team but not from the start. Start with the team that played the second half against City.

FYI Majestic, be careful when it comes to using different computers. You can have up to 4 devices use one viaplay account but the tricky thing is that they register every computer that uses it once and when you reach 4 you can't use any other devices.

When Saints were in the PL last time around I used to download MOTD highlights from uknova.com but they have been forced to take their torrents offline. Does anyone know a way to watch MOTD online when abroad?

Number 1?

Did Gaston tweet that?

Maya YOSHIDA - Centre Back - Official on OS
Saint Martini replied to RonManager's topic in The Saints
Can't say I've seen that much of him. I live in Sweden now and even though I still follow Ajax as my favourite team. I watch almost all Ajax match but very few matches not featuring them. From the matches against Ajax I'm not too impressed but its really difficult to judge him in those kind of matches. I've seen him in the Dutch version of MOTD highlights a bit more often and he is the best player on that team together with Wildschut. -

Probably because he hasn't trained with the team for several months. He's been injured for about a year, has a long term contract with Ajax and before his injury he was followed by Champions League contenders. I'll eat one of my Saints shirts if he signs for us this transferwindow. -

HCDAJFU - The transfer deadline countdown

Has anyone mentioned Douglas from FC Twente? He got his Dutch passport this week so no work-permit problems anymore. He' big, fast and apart from the occasional rush of blood to the head he's not got that many weaknesses. -
Does anyone use the viaplay box? I'm considering getting it (would save me the hassle of connecting my iPad to the computer every time) but I'd like to get some reviews first. Especially since I can't get super fast internet here (6-8 Mbps). http://kampanj.box.viaplay.se/

Everyone got their ViaPlay subscriptions up and running? I wouldn't be surprised if Southampton will often be one of the matches not shown on the regular Viasat channels but only via ViaPlay. For me it was a no-brainer, I have boxer and can't get Viasat via them....

Davis Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox ----- Schneiderlin Davis ----- Puncheon ----- ----- Lallana ----- Lambert Sharp ------ Give both Fox and Clyne the liberty to attack with both Schneiderlin and Davis covering for them. Lallana and Puncheon can both drift inside at times to find space between the opposition defense and midfield. I'm not at all a fan of playing 4-5-1 if you don't have the quality to dominate possession of the ball, its a tactic that can be used to close out games when you have a lead but to use it from the get go is not smart imho. The risk of having your centre forward isolated is too big.
-
He's a bit of a headless chicken in the few outings I've seen him in. Even in matches where we have tons of space because we have a small lead he manages to find an opponent to dribble towards at least twice before laying back the ball to the RB (best case scenario). More often then not a promising counter-attack amounts to nothing because of him making the wrong choice and losing the ball somehow. He works hard, I'll give him that but especially in the Premier League I can't see him being useful. I'd prefer both Guly, Puncheon & Chaplow over him at RM/RAM. Its maybe a bit harsh to give up on him this fast but perhaps we should cut our losses and let him know a first-team spot is not likely in the same way Dickson, Forte and Barnard have been made surplus to requirements.

Never been too impressed with him in the matches I've seen him play for VVV against Ajax. But that's a very small sample size in matches between one of the worst teams in the Dutch league against the best. He is fast and decent in the air but his marking and positioning is a bit average from the matches I've seen. -

Mathijsen is awful, he was decent 4 years ago but he's slow now and doesn't like to play with a lot of space behind the defense anymore. Doesn't suit our style at all. I've always considered Berra to be a decent player playing in a team that has left their defense exposed often. I think he'd fit in very well in our system just like Hooiveld does. -

Christophe Berra is apparently available. Wouldn't be a bad signing in my opinion. He's still got his best years ahead of him (27 years old atm) and with only a year left on his contract he shouldn't be too expensive. -
Its a very young team (I think the only players over 23 are Vermeer and Janssen) but very talented. Ajax are weakest at LB and CB (left side). Eriksen and vd Wiel only started training this week after the EURO's so I guess they're not really match-fit. I would think they get some playing time in the second half. I wouldn't be too sure, I have split loyalties with my favourite team in the Netherlands being Ajax but this wil be a close match. Even with this line-up for Ajax.
-
Ajax Line-up: Vermeer; Van Rhijn, Alderweireld, Blind, Dijks; Anita, Jong, Janssen; Özbiliz, Sigthorsson, Boerrigter/Fischer

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has said that Ajax will start in the line-up he has planned for the Dutch Charity Shield. Looking forward to this match even more now. Link
