The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
John B replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
I dont really see what Nick I has done wrong It was quite obvious the club was in the wrong in the first place which has now been agreed by an independent organisation I think that Mr cortese may not understand that most people he has found fault with want the club to succeed and fans to be treated fairly I certainly want that myself -
I dont think the comment from the club was required. LM has been the clubs most successful manager and some recogonition from the club would not be out of order. Hopefully one day another manager will be as sucessful as Lawrie or even better

As I am a lot older than you the best days for me as a Saints fan were the 60/70/early 80s when MLT was not around so I was very lucky But I still go to St Mary's and support the team through thick and thin but do not expect to see Saints to be truly successful again in my lifetime because of the way football is today. OXO will go and unlike Terry Paine MLT and Mick Channon will have very little influence on our future except for his transfer money

Yep I agree with you Dune Just dont understand the clubs stance and the stance of some of the posters who dont appear to be acting objectively

Sometimes your pontifications make me laugh Davis is one of the better members of our squad

SAINTS CELEBRATE 125 YEARS at the Mayflower Feb 13th 2011
John B replied to mel1961red's topic in The Saints
I doubt it with all the negative comments in the press regarding Cortese some justified some not it is not surprising that people outside Southampton think poorly of him. -
According to the bookies we are odds on for promotion in from 8/13 to 8/15 so they are more confident than lots of our supporters

I agree that the Club should be run as a business which I am sure it was when it was a PLC but some decisions have proved to be petty. Tesco I think is run as a business and some things it does helps the customer as well as the community and its profitability. I doubt whether Tesco would charge for Parking and not let local charities collect money outside

Although it is not a big thing there still remains the fact that at the moment we dont know if any current staff are going to the event and if not why not. It will be a shame if some dont attend and mix with some of the great players I have seen in the Red and White Stripes and Yellow of Southampton and played in some great not to be forgotten games. The Daily Mail like all newspapers tries to put on slant to get the widest publicity but there might something behind their story as apparently SFC did not respond to an invitation from the the organisers if they had I doubt whether there would have been a story but only time will tell. Dont really know why people get so upset with others reading of the situation because in 99% of the cases the poster has no idea of what has really happened

Cortese clarifies the current position (Daily Telegraph)
John B replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
I dont think you realise you wind up people with some of your sanctimonous posting -
I think Cortese is doing a reasonably good job in running in running the club in League 1 with large crowds and no mortgage on the stadium. The only criticsm of him was the handling of Pardew like Lowe with Hoddle he took to much notice of the fans obviously he could not work with Pardew and should have bought in a new manager in the summer and we would probably be heading for Promotion - our Pre Season was a farce and I could never how we would be playing well at the start of the season. However Cortese seems to alienate all other organisations which are involved with SFC which causes problems which seem to have got out of hand

MLG we live in a free society and MLT can say anything within the law if he feels what he is saying is right. You may not agree with what MLT says but that is life. I have no idea whether the Daily Mail's story is true but if current SFC players do not turn up to the celebrations it will be a shame and a pretty strange situation

Southampton set for £50million takeover bid from Middle East (Daily Mail)
John B replied to .comsaint's topic in The Saints
I have no idea if this report is true but I do agree that SFC is a good investment and ML got a bargain To progress in the PL we need a lot of investment which ML may have paid out but I am not sure his family are that committed so an Arab Owner could possibly be a good thing but who knows what is going to happen. So I am not anti any takeover -
The only thing I would like to add is that at the moment we need to watch what Huddersfield are doing as they have a relatively easy end of season
-
Peterborough have scored 45 goals at home this season in 15 games and let in 32 We have scored 23 goals at home in 14 games and let in 9 so whats the problem?
-
I think posters should be realistic that we are not going to win all our remaining games nor are our rivals Four points from two away games is a good return and we have every chance of getting promoted The bookies agree too http://bettingzone.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-one/promotion
-
Seems to be a hell of a game Every time I log on there is a goal
-
Although the squad is pretty good it is not really much better than it was when the Window opened and numerous posters said it was not good enough for promotion So I would rate the window 5/10
-
I am not sure that is the case he obvious has potential but I would suggest that £10m is slightly over the top. With regard to Carroll strikers are always worth a lot and he has played for England but £35 m does seem a lot
