  1. Another linked rumour Apparently Mr Cortese is having some building work undertaken at his Chilworth home The have been payment delays to the contractor based on accusations of 'shoddy' work!!
  2. Apparently arrested for loutish behaviour in Liverpool over the weekend Didnt realise he was on loan at Huddersfield from Wolves Actually saw him play his first game for Saints (on loan from Liverpool?) at Easteligh in a pre season friendly a few years back Think he may have scored a hat trick and looked a useful addition Failed to impress thereafter
  3. I have to say the lad I bought my programme from was very 'customer friendly' and well turned out. However I wonder what arrangements have been made, going forward, for wet weather The programmes, where I bought from, were laid out on the floor with no weather protection. Whatever happened to the kiosks which provided suitable shelter for stock and seller. Wonder what the programme sales figure was yesterday compared to previous games?
  4. Have it on reasonably good authority that Mr Cortese has been looking at development potential in and around the stadium area, particularly along the immediate river Itchen frontage. Understand that a river site has become available not far from the stadium Soton City Council has a strategy to 'gentrify' the river frontage between the Northam and Itchen Bridges so I am sure they would be keen to assist with any change of plan use etc. I wonder if this could be an investment opportunity for the club perhaps using our newly borrowed wedge? It would take a lot of money and co-operation but opening up the Aggregate wharves and adjacent properties for public access opportunities would improve the standing and property values around St Mary's
  5. What Warranty Company are you with?
  6. Any one had experience of these and if so any recommendations etc
  7. Have been impressed with Andy the few times I have seen him play. A combatative midfielder. Natural leader Always a biggish lad in a team full of midgets Seems to have grown even more from last nights appearance Needs to have a spell on loan Hope he makes it
  8. Notice he was on the bench last night First time I have heard about him Listed as an U 18 Midfielder from Weymouth. Must be rated to make the early step up to the 1st Team squad
  9. Heard a little ditty earller today along the lines of : .........Chinn, Chinnery,Chin, Chinnery, Chinn, Chinn, Cherou,........... .........Now Chinny's got you, it's down to League Two................... Sung to the tune of the old **** Van Dyke song Reminds me of a similar ditty sung at the Dell back in the 60's to the tune of 'Bicycle made for two' The words have been slightly changed to reflect the current situation (it used to be 'stuck in Division 2'): ............Pompey, Pompey, give us your answer do,...................... ............What's it like to go down to Division 2?...........................
  10. Totally agree with all this If these extra charges are deemed to be 'unfair' by fans, it will affect their propensity to go to games (particularly those which may be deemed to be of marginal interest) The credit card charge will be seen by many as broadly acceptable (but on a transaction not per ticket basis) The debit card charge is unfair as is the parking charge for more than 15 mins (when I got my Sheff Weds ticket there was only one window open and one person buying a ticket. However it took so long I was there for 18 mins (as were the people behind me. Fortunately I had been dropped off but would have been rather annoyed if I had to pay for parking) I actually paid by cash but it occurred to me that cash is not exactly risk free to clubs (unless it is at Pompey when it immediately goes into brown envelopes) so this perhaps isnt as secure as a debit card
  11. I have heard one or two little snippets about Nicola Cortese which I've not particularly liked and, of course previous chairmen here, including the illustrious Mr Lowe, have had their critics, but I guess we have generally been pretty lucky, particularly when you look round at some of the Chairmen/Owners we could have had. Looking close to home, that nice Mr Mitchell (and his Russian investor and wife) at Bournemouth and the various ne'er do wells at Fratton Park!!!!!! We should thank our collective lucky stars but perhaps you end up getting what you deserve.
  12. David, What I was clumsily trying to imply was that, like the Peterboro side of recent years, our aggregate goal tally is relatively high Bit like our own situation back in the old Third Division days
  13. 24 league goals so far in Saints 5 games thus far plus 5 in the Capital One Cup. A fair few more in prospect this weekend. We are the Peterborough (as was) of the South!!!
  14. 1,Davis/Borac 2.Richardson/ Butterworth 3, Shaw 4. Chaplow 5. Richardson/Stephens 6. Seaborne 7, De Ridder 8. Cork 9 Rodrigues 10. Guly 11. Lee Half reasonable Championship side but strong enough to beat Weds?
  15. Since 1960. Comparative records in perspective Years in 1st Tier Saints 35 Pompey 8 2nd Tier Saints 15 Pompey 36 3rd Tier Saints 2 Pompey 6 4th Tier Saints - Pompey 2 Average League position (out of 92 clubs) Saints 11th Pompey 20th Average league Attendance Saints 19,498 Pompey 14,050 (which a larger capacity stadium for the majority of the time!!) Seasons in the higher position Saints 45 Pompey 7 Seasons with the higher average League attendance Saints 49 Pompey 3 etc etc.........
  16. Probably been discussed on here before but my wife has mislaid a key to her Pug 308. Fortunately we have a spare but need to replace the original. Any suggestions on the most cost effective approach. Presume main dealer will charge + £150 Would a Key shop be able to do something cheaper if we took in the spare key? Presume there will be an issue with the transponder
  17. Saw him play pre season v Sholing where I sat behind his grandparents in the stand. Looked a useful 'keeper but difficult to compare against non League opposition
  18. Didnt realise that Sky wanted game to be shown live on Thursday night but we turned it down
  19. Anyone know how the Saints go about this nowadays? In the 60's/70's most clubs had a system of full/part time scouts who recommended players to the Manager, The Manager would also have a list of players from his own experience. The Manager would then look at a prospective player first hand. Ted Bates would generally want to see the player perform both home and away before approaching the Board for the money to purchase. Often this would involve a player swap. I guess nowadays there are players Agents hawking their charges around, especially as their existing contracts come towards the end of their term. I wonder how many Managers/Coaches actually select a player nowadays? Do they simply say I want a certain type of player, position filled and leave it to the Director of Football/Chairman to find a list of suitable candidates and then do the deal. I just wonder whether Nigel Atkins is merely given the responsibility to integrate new players into the squad without having the initial say in whom he would prefer. If this is the case then our Nige, or any Manager, cannot really be held responsible for any duff buys. But of course they are and, by the same token, revel in the glory if the new player proves to be a diamond
  20. Interesting summer spending table Chelsea £72.5m Man Utd £48m Arsenal £44m Liverpool £27m Sunderland £25m Spurs £23m Wigan £16m Man City £15m SAINTS £11.5m Everton £10.5m W Ham £9.5m Villa £8.7m Norwich £8m Newcastle £7.7m QPR £6.5m Reading £5.3m Swansea £5m WBA £3.5m Stoke £3m Fulham nil Of course all this will change by the end of the week but goes to show that at the time this table was compiled, Saints were 9th in the spending league. No info on players wages Also I guess Saints would be higher up the spending table if net payments were compiled as we have not sold anyone of any substance this transfer window. Part of me is pleased that we have spent out, as it is a necessity, but the cautious part is concerned about the ramifications if the expenditure doesnt work out well.
  21. Remember thinking Ted must be a taking a real risk to splash this sort of money out for a relatively unknown player. What a bargain Big Ron turned out to be Interesting to find out that RPI has increased by a factor of 15 between 1966 and 2012 so this accounts for the relatively modest transfer value of £800k + Of course this is out of kilter with the actual transfer value which would certainly now be over £20m, perhaps much more, if Ron was capable of scoring as freely as he did with Saints in the 60's Interesting to compare admission charges which have gone up by a factor of approx 120 since 1966 although most clubs benefit from decent stadia (there are some noteworthy exceptions!!)
  22. Interesting question on another forum Will the players on monthly contracts make themselves available for cup competitions? If so this may well reduce their opportunities with other clubs.
  23. Whoever it was, fair play to them for a) getting a good spot and b) displaying a Saints banner. Hope they enjoyed the game
  24. Presumed line up if all 3 sign? Davis 1 Gazzinga Clyne 2 Richardson Butterfield Fox 3 Buttner??
