  1. Anyone listen to Edwina Currie on the radio giving advice how to get a pay increase or a company car? All seems very easy in the Conservative bubble expounded by Boris the Buffoon and his like minded buddies. I think the way forward for us all is to follow the example of politicians in general ie put up with no increase in basic pay but shaft their employers by fiddling expenses (tax free!!)
  2. Inflation in building materials and labour is now well beyond RPI figure of 4.8%
  3. I had a mate who worked in the Foreign Office when Boris was in charge. Worst Foreign Secretary ever in the mind of many who worked in the Dept!!
  4. Fair comment. However what I would like to know is how my life will be affected by the requirements to get to net zero eg the costs involved and the inconvenience. For example not so long ago I was told driving a diesel car was the best option, now its not. People were told that cavity wall insulation was the way forward and there were Govt incentives to progress this. Now there are cases where it has been incorrectly installed or it has been deemed inappropriate. One of my neighbours had roof insulation sprayed on the inside of his roof. It has cost him 1,000's to replace it as the roof began to sweat. And, of course, there is the cladding issue. Are Heat Pumps/Hydrogen Boilers/Electric Cars really the way forward?
  5. I have been watching Saints for 60+ years and here is my suggestions based on players who wore a Saints shirt rather than how they went on to further their careers which means that the likes of Shearer and Bale miss out,and how they may fit into todays style of play with decent pitches etc . Also have left out the likes of Osgood, George and Ball who were excellent players in their prime but may were just over the hill when they played for Saints. Honorable mentions to those in brackets Those in BOLD nailed on starters Keeper Shilton (Niemi) Right Back Golac (Dodd/Mills/Liveramento/KWP) Left Back Statham (Bridge/Dennis) Centre Half Richards (Wright/Watson/Alderwiereld) " " VVD (Svensson) Right Mid Channon (Paine) Centre Mid Le Tizz (Ekelund) " " Steve Williams (JWP/Wanyama/Case) Left Mid Danny or Rodney Wallace/Armstrong/Mane) Striker Keegan (Ings) " Chivers (Davies/Beattie)
  6. I wonder if anyone has suffered from this enhanced version of the common cold circulating at the moment. A couple members of my family have been struggling with it for at least a week and it is proving difficult to shift. Covid tests have been negative but it seems our ability to get over colds may have been compromised by masks and segregation last winter
  7. It is noticeable that the figures quoted are 'estimates'. I wonder if the shortages are directly related to LGV/HGV drivers within Category C & E Licences or involve C1 + E, and C1 which is the base LGV licence which covers Transit vans and small box trucks? There are significant numbers of Light Vans being imported into the UK at the moment to satisfy the increasing demands for Parcel and Food deliveries and there are quite a few shortages in this field to.
  8. I'm a bit concerned about Collins Dic. Has anyone heard anything about him recently?
  9. Apparently Trump doesnt exercise as he reckons the heart only produces a certain number of heartbeats and he doesnt want to waste too many on exercise and that is why he uses a golf cart whenever he plays golf..
  10. Reasonable quote. We do seem to be unable to score goals and that is a worry
  11. I was a Remainer have to say that the shortage of HGV drivers is only partly down to Brexit. There were shortages before we left the EU and very few young people were joining the industry mainly because of the relatively low wages. The growth of home deliveries for Amazon and the like meant that a lot of the long distance HGV drivers could earn more money driving vans around their locality and sleep the night in their own bed rather than the back of a cab. Just in time deliveries also complicated matters as there was additional pressure on jobs especially as our trunk roads/motorways are so congested at times. And, as been said before, there arev shortages of HGV drivers across Europe and the USA.
  12. One of my relatives works for a recruitment Agency. Apparently there are a number of jobs available driving machinery/HGV's etc which require applicants to take a Drugs & Alcohol test. Quite a few younger applicants decide not to pursue their interest in the advertised job when they find out they have to submit to this test. Rather worrying I think and perhaps indicates why HGV drivers have an average age of 56!!
  13. Lawro for once reckons we will win. Not sure if that is a good sign!!!
  14. I am training an 8 year old to be a fruit picker or a HGV driver but small enough to navigate through a chimney or even a drain if push came to shove!! Decent rates but cash only..
  15. Trousers, You and Sue will have the Climate Protestors round your gaffs in quick order. Wood burning stoves, which were once promoted as a good thing, are now on the list of high polluters!!!
  16. Some interesting comments on the subject of energy prices. Does anyone know what the effect of the green emission policy has on fuel prices?
  17. Read the match report in the Sunday Times today. More or less 100% focussing on Man City and their shortcomings. Hardly a word about Saints. Still they did give 9/10 to Romeu who, I thought, had a very good game.
  18. Hope Jack Stephens injury is not too bad. I have been critical of him in the past but he started this season well.
  19. There is a good review on the Shysters involved in PFC at https.//youtu.be/lsf...yzQzqUI
  20. Agree with this. I voted to Remain and was disappointed when the vote went to Leave. Irrespective of the personalities involved and the untruths they may have told, we are where we are and we have to get on with it. To be fair there are so many uncertainties caused by Covid to chuck into the mix, including the increased cost of shipping containers in from Asia, which has little to do with Brexit. It is currently quite difficult to actually itemise the negative effects on our lives that are Brexit related. That said I have yet to see one positive effect of Brexit that has impacted positively on my life.
  21. Used to get a few Dutch fans too when Koeman, VVD and even Tadic were here.
  22. The 'Fake Sheik', the one that Piers Morgan reckoned was the 'Real Deal'?
  23. Horrible ground, horrible place, horrible fans, horrible pitch, horrible weather... GREAT RESULT!!
  24. I must admit Jim wasnt my favourite player. Decent on the ball but a bit pedestrian, although he was one of the older players in the squad at the time. I have read half of his book and found it of interest. Got to say he is a genuinely nice guy. Didnt realise how good looking he was as a youngster. Reminded me of how I looked at that age🤣
  25. Agree with you for the most part but some of his forward passing was not on the button but that could be said for a number of players from both sides
