Anyone else see us losing as a positive thing sometimes...
Window Cleaner replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Might not even be anywhere near those fees, players could easily have release clauses, knowing Cortese though..... I can't see us getting more than 20 million for any player on our books just now. -
TBH the Doppler effect of an aircraft travelling at 600 kph and a geostationary satellite at 36000 km altitude would be minute, absolutely minute so they've done some good work there, if in fact that's what they've done and it's not a simple time/distance equation that was being touted on aviation forums 10 days ago.

He certainly did a reasonable job at times last season, can't quite work out why he's tailed off in such a way.

If I was Mauricio Pochettino's defensive coach
Window Cleaner replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Why focus on the 19 goals away from home and completely set aside the 21 goals conceded in 15 home games ? If anything it's our home form that's insufficient and that needs to be addressed. Our defence is too young, any good defensive coach would admit that and do something about it. Why drop Clyne sometimes and play Chambers, to me Clyne has declined since we started doing that. To me both Chambers and Shaw are raw defensively. -
Ings will be in the Prem next season with Burnley anyway, can't see why he'd want to change, not for a mid-table club anyway.

Replacement for Dejan, Jos is a left sider.

probably the same one as we've not learnt all season, when you have fairly simple chances you just have to stick them away. Lallana is a great player but he does miss some sitters, could have put us 3-1 up yesterday and then they'd have been blown away. Just shoots straight at Lloris, Shaw does the same later on. -
I like Mauricio's style and hope that he decides to stay on but I don't want to see him having to do it with the weak squad that we have now. It will just go tits up eventually and that would be a shame.
-
We had at least 3 clear chances to put the match away, Lallana scuff shotted 2 of them and Shaw got over eager and smashed the ball into a Spurs defender when he shoud have just slotted it inside the post, that's inexperience for you, a senior pro would have put that away. Shaw has score zero goals and has 1 assist this season, it's not really good enough for a player of his talent.

Which idiots, the players or the management ?

trouble is many of our better players will have Europe as a short term goal, there is no guarantee that they'll ever get it with us and some will look elsewhere this summer. Those that are 24/25/26 will want to move forwards before it's too late. So either we guarantee them a push for Europe next season with serious investment to counter our obvious weaknesses or we carry on in the all for the academy vein and lose our best players.

And yet we started him in front of any other player yesterday, why do you think that was then. The obvious answer was as many said on the pre-match thread. Maya at the back and Lovren as a DM, he played there plenty of times for Lyon and does it well, that might have given us the solidity we needed but instead MP plays the wishy washy 5ft, 8 8 stone JWP against hard guys like Dembelé Bentaleb and Chadli. Sometimes I'm beginning to wonder if MP really, really knows what he's doing when we need alternative solutions. Going forward it's great, at the back not so much. There was no way JWP should have started as a DM yesterday. -

I think you just have to accept that defensively we are just not good enough, to correct that we need another top flight CB and a new LB, let Shaw play further forward because defensively he isn't anything special. -
You have to assume that challenging the "big boys" means achieving sporting success. We're not going to enrol millions of armchair fans to buy merchandise or sponsors to give us tens of millions by being 15th in the PL.

If we can't win 37% of the time when we go in front how do you expect us to win when we go behind ? Team needs serious overhaul, need more experience in the side. I have to admit it I watched Stoke yesterday and would have to admit I liked what I saw, then again I like winning, they'll probably be above us next season. Good defence, hard midfield, strikers who know what they have to do with the ball 8 yards out. -

We took the lead against West Ham and lost 3-1, that was a bad,bad result but what have we learnt from it, nothing at all . Anyway you also need to be looking at the number of times we've taken the lead and then not won. -

Nope, I am not a fan of all this academy nonsense, everybody knows that, players like JWP just give me the shudders, give me a hardened 25 year old pro any day. -

but they aren't being applied now are they, we keep losing after going ahead, good sides don't do that, they get their noses in front and then gut it out. Our squad is too weak, we've known that since November and have done nothing about it, ie we've not learnt anything. -

Exactly, there is nothing positive to be taken from losing unless there are exceptional circumstances like ref awarding 5 or 6 iffy penalties. The art of losing isn't hard to master and we seem to have mastered it well. Still very miffed about yesterday, we could have put the game away on 3 occasions and didn't, we need to correct that as much as our defensive weaknesses. I am by no means certain that NC wouldn't have sacked Mauricio by now, football is a results game and just now ours aren't good enough.. -
Complaint against Peter Schmeichel's on MOTD2

So this thread is about 'Football commentator thinks good player should play for a big club" right ? It's the way the football punditting world works, they don't seem to like talent being wasted on also rans and right now we are also rans. -
To be honest I feel that we've spoilt the ship for the proverbial ha'porth of tar. We needed 2 players in January but did nothing, with an expenditure of about 10 million we'd be significantly higher than we are today. I feel that perhaps our team will be distributed to the 4 winds next season and we'll not be anywhere near as good as we could have been this season.
-
We have great players yes but we also have inadequate players in cover roles for them and no manager will accept that for ever, certainly not one with ambition. Our first team squad contains at least 4 players who have no right to be there.
-
Well not really, we need better players at least in reserve if we want to push on next season. Just keeping MP won't be enough if we still have the same wafer thin squad, we need to accept that some of our academy players need another 3 or 4 years in reserve roles and buy the players we need now to replace them, same as about every other PL club in the land. When you look at teams like Stoke (I know I know it's not pretty) but they are hard side turning out results their youngest first team regular is 24.
-
Why would he need to go forward when we were leading 2-0 ? We really need to get over this obsession that our full backs need to "get forward". We were in a 442 pattern at the start today, we had all we needed going forward in RL JR SD and AL. I would much rather we had full backs who defend and leave the attacking to those who are there to do that, especially when we're 2-0 up away from home at a top 6 side. If Shaw hadn't been marauding forward somewhere Lovren probably wouldn't have got caught out by Soldado.

I didn't take note that Clyne was particulary poor today until his error, what was in front of him was poor.
