  1. Not surprising the support was good. The club was on the brink and had its back against the wall. It’s a bit different when the club is bumping along in mediocrity without either of the extremes to energise the fanbase.
  2. Villa are always very good and wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the loudest this season when they come down.
  3. Though United were very poor when they came down earlier this season, suggesting the quality of football makes a difference, not just the demographics of the fanbase.
  4. Yep Born Again, I was doing my bit. Maybe come down and show us how’s it done pal?
  5. Haven’t agreed with a lot of what you’ve said on this thread (and you probably have me on ignore) but acknowledge your pragmatism and independent mindedness.
  6. That doesn’t follow. Also note that the majority of Labour MPs voted for a Customs Union or Common Market 2.0 in the indicative votes. There was a clear compromise and cross-party solution available which would have respected the referendum result but was scuppered principally by May and vast swathes of Conservative MPs but also some dogmatic remainers.
  7. The 2017 GE Labour Manifesto explicitly rejected no deal. MPs were elected on that basis. You can’t be surprised that the Labour Party is doing exactly what it promised. Keep up pal.
  8. Largely happy with him. There’s a method and order in the way we play that should win us points. Would like to see us a bit less predictable (remember when the forum geniuses used to criticise Poch for lacking a plan B). But until Ralph can shift the dross and bring his preferred players in, I guess he’ll always have one hand tied behind his back (excusable) or be tempted to fit square pegs in round holes (less excusable).
  9. What on earth are you talking about?
  10. Odds on him having a friendly little message under his shirt too?
  11. Excellent goal from Ricardo. One of the best RBs in the PL. Great signing by Puel.
  12. Bizarre. He was surprisingly promoted to the starting 11 out of virtually nowhere so much so that we shipped off Cedric. Now he's disappeared in equally sudden circumstances. His play can be raw and rash at times; but he's made huge strides since his debut and everything suggested that this was the season we were going to reap the rewards for showing earlier patience and faith in him (as is the normal trajectory for promising young players).
  13. Exactly. I think the steepness of the stands, a huge home end and safe standing areas are excellent and could make for a really tight imposing atmosphere. Too many people wittering on about soulnessness of the stadium when the issue is the support. You can lead a horse to water and all that.
  14. This is a decent article, not uncritical of antifa but clear about the wider media game of false equivalence being played: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/7/3/20677645/antifa-portland-andy-ngo-proud-boys On the deplatforming myth with actual data rather than batman's wife's best friend https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/8/3/17644180/political-correctness-free-speech-liberal-data-georgetown
  15. It was partly a product of playing JWP at RWB; but also a product of the formation - 3-5-2 tends to leave space and a no-mans land between the CB and wingback.
  16. Absolute shambles getting into the ground - I originally thought Glasgow Born Again Saint may have got stuck in one of the turnstiles being on the larger side and all (it turns out he didn’t go to the game and was posting here). Other than that excellent stadium (best in the PL) though atmosphere was dire and will give the Emirates a run for its money.
  17. From yesterday’s FT “Setback for Brexit planning as senior official quits Matthew Coats’ departure ‘puzzling and alarming’, says Whitehall source” https://www.ft.com/content/ab601430-e14c-11e9-b112-9624ec9edc59
  18. Don’t worry the swivels will be telling us that if they had had longer than July to plan, the Europeans would have been eating out of our hands by now. Another May stitch-up.
  19. What are those? I didn’t see anything about JWP on the red bus pal.
  20. Given it’s something you appear to feel very strongly about (see your posting history), I think it’s an honourable “hill to die on” (to use your words). Get on the blower to eBay and make the world a better place pal.
  21. I don’t follow. There’s nothing wrong with scrutinising peoples views, especially as we live in a narcissistic culture where everyone thinks they’re an expert and seemingly has a view about everything. Either way, it’s the cut and thrust of democratic deliberation. It didn’t simply stop in June 2016, not least because the effects of the referendum will be with us for years. Whether it makes the darndest difference is another matter: you’d hope people were capable of updating their views as new facts and arguments came to light. Like you, I’m sceptical but thats a practical point, not a point of principle.
  22. Are Brexiters a race? How do you think JWP is getting on this season pal?
  23. I think you don’t understand the essence of politics pal. Politics, by definition, has everything to do with you and me.
  24. Anyone with an understanding of US history knows the racist baggage associated with the piccaninnies and watermelon smiles jibe - the image of Black people as docile, subservient and unsophisticated, good for picking cotton but not much else. Again you need to read a bit of history.
