St Mary's Football Group – 2016/17 financial results
SFC Forever replied to Delmary's topic in The Saints
she did well selling up when she did. Maybe she had advisers telling her the was right. -
Yet another excellent read. The summaries are always entertaining which is something we can't say about our team at the moment.
-
We bought him as a rb and I believe that is his position. However having seen how he tends to ball watch I fear he will end up as a League 1 or 2 player before long.
-
A true gent gone but never forgotten. R.I.P
-
Hmmmm! Wasn't expecting that.
-
St Mary's will never match the Dell for atmosphere. The sound at St Mary's is nowhere near as good due partly to the style of the building which helps produce the lack of atmospheric volume etc. Our stadium has never been as good even when we were charging from League 1 to the Premier League. The Northam is fine but the Chapel end is like a Morgue in comparison.

We could do worse than get the chinese to post on here.
-
If he stays we will not return in a hurry. He will replace those that leave with even lower quality.
-
We need Sparky to make some drastic changes to the team. We want players that are prepared to fight for the colours, the club. Romeu with Lemina and one other in centre midfield holding roles. Bring Yoshida in and play Stephens at right back. Hoedt and Bertrand alongside. Maybe Prowse on right midfield and McQueen in left midfield. Sims needs a run but who do we play as our striker. Austin is my choice but we are still struggling to make a half decent team. McCarthy Stephens, Yoshida, Hoedt, Bertrand. Sims, Lemina, JWP, Romeu, McQueen. Austin. A tad lightweight but we don't have any real muscle and just have to hope they can fight hard enough to matter.
-
I hope this is sorted quickly and the perpetrator gets banned from all football and prosecuted.
-
First thing we need is muscle and then players played that are willing to scrap. No team has ever done well consistently without fighters in their teams. Look at Man City now. Plenty of top quality talented players but also a team that knows how to scrap. We have no muscle or leaders in our team and for that we can blame the last few managers that we have had. Not just Pellegrino.

Who would you like to see sold/replaced in the summer?

As for the defence I would wait to see who and how many we lose and bring in before getting rid of more. -

Targett and McQueen can both make it as fb's but I am also wondering whether McQueen who began as a striker could be a midfield player. God forbid it happens but if relegated then they might well be ready to play for us. Neither has let us down when they have played this season. Our biggest problem has been our non performing absent midfield. Long, Carillo, Gabbiadini, Boufal, Tadic, to go. If we let Forster go [unlikely] because of his costs and loss of form, we might do well to hunt from Championship or lower for a young keeper. Wigan's maybe. -
Then there are two England full backs that both played for us at same time Bill Etherington and Alf Ramsey.
-
I agree as well and would work for any colour strip
-
If Hughes could get him back to his best Romue would be a useful addition to our match-day squads.
-
My girls said at least they will see a Saints team win.
-
Wonder if we will stay with two strikers against the Hammers. Gabbi and Chaz could be a good pairing.
-
Ted Bates, Ron Davies, Mick Channon and Matthew Le Tissier. Bates also played for us and was Mr Southampton. Davies was always able to seemingly hang in the air before heading the ball home. Channon for his weight of goals. Tiss for keeping us in top division almost single handed.
-
We could loan him out if we can't get rid of him in the summer. Maybe Eastleigh could liven him up.

Hughes Hyperthetical Summer Transfer Window
SFC Forever replied to Dan Johnson's topic in The Saints
I believe we need a keeper. We could do with a good strong CB, and good in the air but one not too slow of foot. Sims might be able to save us some money as he shows distinct promise. Our strikers are our biggest concern and we need at least one and maybe two. Probably two as we always seem to have at least one injured. -
As much as we improved in the 2nd half it showed me yet again that we need a midfield general or commanding centre back to push us forward. The team lacks a good leader to get at them .
-
Sell him now we would be lucky to find a club willing to pay even £5m. We would have been better of telling the first team squad there is £20m to share between you if we stay up.
-
Carillo is a total non entity. Most expensive non scoring striker we have ever bought. He needs time which he hasn't got. Drop him and put him with the U23 lot to learn how to score. Maybe with time he could come good.
