Southampton set for £50million takeover bid from Middle East (Daily Mail)
Tom28 replied to .comsaint's topic in The Saints
Of course I has to be dismissed as ********. There is nothing of any substance whatsoever in that article. Read it again. It's purely speculative. It doesn't inform anyone of anything except that the Club was bought for about 13 million. Utter utter drivel. The article is vague on purpose; because the Mail need it to be so they can escape any legal action brought by the club. Lawrie Mac should do one now too and shut the **** up. He's clearly the 'dark forces' Cortese referred to in his BBC interview. -
Four things to take from today: 1) Seaborne is a liability 2) Davis has made one too many mistakes-I like him but sadly it's time to see if Bart is the future 3) We should have signed CMS 4) Jonathon Forte is the new target for the Saints boo boys

Punch is on his way to Blackpool at the moment for talks on a loan move with a view to a possible permanent move in the summer.

Just putting this out there.... If Torres goes to Chelsea, I think we can expect Liverpool to increase their offer for Carroll and for Carroll to leave Newcastle. In that scenario, can you see Pardew putting in an offer for Ricky Lambert?
-
Why? We've re-signed Lallana, kept Chamberlain, signed Guly, signed Chaplow, signed a much needed winger on loan, offloaded Wotton, and as of right now, we still have Puncheon if we need him. Absolutely superb January transfer window. I love my club and those running it.
-
Chappers and Schneiderlin were absolute class. Really class. For as long as they play for Southampton I will never utter a bad word about either of them ever again.
-
This would make my 2011 if we managed to get him - quality footballer. Its worth a punt but there are plenty of Premier League teams that would have him.
-
One of the best Adkins interviews I've watched. No Lallana on Saturday, also no Puncheon (he wasn't in any of the video that covered training). Reckon we'll go with a midfield of Oxo Chappers Morgan and N'Guessen.
-
What surprises me more than anything about this transfer window is that Adkins came in too late for the summer transfer window and the squad he has, with the exception of Chaplow, is the one he inherited from Pardew. This isn't Adkins' squad. When managers come in to any new job, they want to build their own squad, one that has the ability to play they want them to play, and have the qualities that suits the style of play they are looking to implement. Adkins has had nearly a month to add 'his' players - I'd be stunned if we didn't add one or two before the end of the window.

Difficult one tbh. Second best defence in the league says that he can't be doing that badly in goal. However, KD definitely does not inspire confidence in me. His decision making is poor too often. His kicking can be dreadful. However to his credit, his shot stopping is Premier League standard. As for Bart, there are definitely flaws there as well. I think it's one of those similar to American Football where if the starting QB has a bad game or two, suddenly the backup QB is the most popular guy in town. Whether he has more ability is a different thing. I think I would stick with KD. He's been loyal to us, and I think we should show him the same back, and sing his name louder than ever next week. Bart's time will come, but KD has earned our loyalty.

Adkins knows better than to come out and say 'oh yeah they've got a lad who's one to watch with a promising future, and oh yeah we've put in a bid of a million pounds for him'. If he had a choice between Saints, Huddersfield and Sheff Weds, its a no brainer for him surely.
-
Adkins mentioned Dale Jennings in the interview - can you imagine Jennings on the left, Chambo on the right....wow, that would be awesome. Lallana could play as the second striker or centre midfielder. Lets hope Jennings is one of those we're after.
-
Darren Pratley CDAJFU. Available on the cheap now, or on a free in the summer.
-
5 of the next 6 league games are away. 7 of the next 9. We needed three points today. But form has been good so mustn't grumble.
-
They've just appointed Chris Powell - there goes their chances at promotion. Doesn't matter when we play them now.
-
Is that the same bus as all the Saints players are on? If so, we should be ok and win comfortably.
-
If we win it'll be six wins in a row, which I think ties a club record. So we'll draw!

I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, but on recent performances, he appears to be doing a great job. That said, until the last four or five games, our performances had been way off from the heights we hit at times last season. I don't want to be a killjoy, but all teams have good and bad patches, and this most definitely is a good patch. The question will be how many points we pick up in bad patches, and we will have another bad patch this season. In fairness to Adkins, when we had the patch of games where we were putting in inconsistent performances 5-10 games ago, we were still picking up some points. I still feel one or two more players of real quality are needed - on the wing for sure. Alex Chamberlain is 17 and whilst he's been superb, he will hit a wall at some point between now and the end of the season, and we need a real quality replacement for him when that happens. Maybe I'm just being a bit negative, but we're still only second, and we're still in amongst the pack. Two or three losses and a couple of draws over a five game spell and we'll find ourselves outside the playoffs again. The last four or five games though have been absolutely superb and re-invigorated the fans at just the right time. Keep it going.

We seriously can't be letting Puncheon go. Madness. Forget the fact he might not want to stay-if that was the case, then he managed to play pretty well on Saturday whilst 'not wanting to stay'. He's the sort of player, if Adkins can get the best out of him, that could stay with us all the way up to the Premier League. I'm disappointed in Adkins and Crosby that they've not resolved the issue behind the scene.
-
Apologies if already mentioned, but in Adkins' post match interview, he definitely said 'Aaron Martin completed his first 90 minutes for the club'. Slightly concerning that he doesn't know that, in fact, that wasn't his first full 90 minutes for the club?
-
I, for one, am absolutely chuffed to see Puncheon back in the starting line up, and hope he stays with us. great to have you back Punch!
-
Austin would be an amazing signing. If we signed up Guly too, re-signed Lallana, kept Chambo, and resolved things with Punch, that would be a dream January! I'd actually offer Lambert in a swap deal for Austin.
-
Just watched the highlights as I couldnt make the game yesterday. I'm sorry, but the highlight reel was full of Guly doing good things. This thread is absolute nonsense. As are most.

There's no congestion zone charging on a Sunday, but Charlton is nowhere near the charging zone anyways.

Adkins - this annoys me... "We didn't anticipate before the loan window would shut that Lee Holmes and Lee Barnard would be out. That's two players who could have continued and they haven't so that's unfortunate." WE DIDN'T ****ING ANTICIPATE THAT A GUY THAT HAS SPENT HIS WHOLE CAREER INJURED, AND A GUY WHO BROKE HIS HAND IN A BAR FIGHT MIGHT BE UNAVAILABLE???? Every single Saints fan to a man could have told him that shipping out Puncheon, leaving Holmes as the only backup winger was a high risk strategy. Adkins is clueless. I'm sorry, yes our record under Adkins is fairly good, and it was just one defeat, but no one can really say they didn't see that result coming based on performances. recently. One loss doesn't make me worried; multiple poor performances makes me worried about this season.
