Sometimes I really cant believe some of the things people say on this website. I mean, some people really have no clue. Who do people on here think we are turning their noses up at players like Emile Heskey and Darius vassell?! I imagine there are people on here would rather Rickie Lambert than Emile Heskey which just about says it all. Emile Heskey is one of the top 4 or 5 English strikers. As for Darius Vassell, he would be an amazing signing for us. Amazing. And we would be massively punching above our weight if we got him. Anyone who says they would rather Simeon Jackson rather than Darius Vassell clearly has no clue about anything. Sorry but Darius Vassell has played for England 22 times scoring 6 goals. Simeon Jackson has played for Gillingham who will be plying their trade in L2 next year. Oh and Vassells goals to game ratio for ENGLAND is only marginally worse than Jackson's goal to game ratio for GILLINGHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I despair. Crazy. Crazy. Crazy. Simeon Jackson. Unbelievable.

Off topic, but my mate who works at Arsenal says they've signed Joe Cole.

No, its not strange really. The fact is, people default on payments. The cost is not so much loaded in running these schemes. Its loaded in wasting time and resources going after defaulted payments. I hope we can now move on to moan about something else.

I dont understand this match day ticket thing; As i understand it, if you buy your tickets before match day, tickets are £22 (wing), but if you phone up to book as the majority will, you pay a £3 booking fee. ie. the ticket is £25. However, if you rock up on the day, the ticket prices are £24. Wouldn't they want to get advance numbers rather than match day walk ups to help with steward and police planning? This pricing system means that those buying tickets for each match they attend, are more likely to buy on game day. Have I understood that incorrectly?

Ok, well lets take the examples I gave and explain why they wouldn't publicly release information: turnstile technology; - if there is a project to install new technology at the moment, then that makes setting a date for releasing season tickets difficult. You become reliant on the project hitting its milestones and deadline, and if you call it too early and it misses, you look foolish and it becomes a logistical nightmare in terms of organising the staffing for season ticket sales budget forecasting to prepare the business case for lower pricing; - not sure I need to explain this one, but if theyre proposing to reduce season ticket prices drastically, they have to be sure about the numbers and this decision won't be rushed by morons on a forum moaning like their noses have been put out of joint because they arent being told anything. focus on other areas like player scouting and bid preparation; - an announcement to say that season tickets are on hold until we announce some big signings that will generate more sales just isn't going to happen. It will drive the price up in every negotiation we have about every player we go after. Cortese is on holiday and will look at it when he returns (I think he's a earned a break) - if he's on holiday then a) he won't be preparing a statement because errr....he's on holiday. Also, if he came out and said 'Season ticket prices will be announced in June because I'm on holiday for the whole of May' can you imagine the (unwarranted) backlash. It would fill the back page of the echo every day too. It really doesn't matter, is my point. We'll still have 2 months to get our tickets. And if anyone mentions this nonsense about having to save for it....well its not like you didn't know the football season starts in August (like it does every year) and you need to pay for a season ticket (like you do every year). So if thats your grumble, your grumbling shouldn't be with Southampton and their lack of season ticket announcements, it should be with yourselves and your inability to budget.

What the hell is everyones problem? Whatever the reason for not releasing them I can promise you its not 'to annoy the fans'. There's a genuine reason. It could be turnstile technology; budget forecasting to prepare the business case for lower pricing; focus on other areas like player scouting and bid preparation; or it could be that Cortese is on holiday and will look at it when he returns (I think he's a earned a break). Just stop moaning about it. Its boring.

Solid effort putting that list together. One more... George Boyd - Tom 28

John Brayford's move from Crewe to Derby isn't a definite yet according to Dario Gradi. Might be worth pipping Derby to signing him. He's 22, right back, team of the year, club captain, Gradi thinks he's awesome. Would fill our right back void for 5-8 years.

If we don't keep Connolly, how about a cheeky bid for Andy Johnson? Not getting a game at Fulham - they've moved on without him. With his recent injury record, not many Championship clubs would gamble on him. Still think Gary McSheffrey has a good player in him somewhere (cue gay inuendo's) despite his recent form suggesting otherwise. Brian Howard is in his prime and could do a job. George Boyd would be a good signing and his position at Posh isn't great - currently out on loan at Forest where he hasnt been playing but he did score today. Nicky Bailey would be amazing - would love to sign him.
-
Yeah sign him up I reckon. Even if we go up he's a decent backup. He'll be free as he's out of contract (isn't he?) and wont cost much in terms of wages. He's still very raw but he has strength, pace and he's direct which causes teams problems. Wouldn't sign Papa to be honest. I think there will be better options in the market.

Elliot Ward joining us in a free in the summer. Done deal. I'd like us to sign Myles Weston the winger from Brentford and a centre midfielder or two. Possibly a rightback but I think semi is good enough for both League 1 and Championship (I've done a complete 180 on him since watching his dismal performance against Millwall).

To all those who think we can wait for next season for promotion
Tom28 replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I can't start threads and this may already be common knowledge on here but we have agreed a Pre Contract Agreement with Elliot Ward apparently. The story goes this was agreed with the player in January. He will see out his contract with Cov until the summer when we would sign him on a free and the parties would share the benefit of not paying the fee as they would have in January I.e the player would have half of the agreed fee spread out over the life of his contract in wages. -
I swear some people on here are related to Karl Pilkington.

Personnel actions to ensure promotion next season
Tom28 replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Agreed. If Thommo would stay for less money, I definitely think he's worth keeping and it would mean we wouldn't need a new centre back as he'd be 4th choice, and 2nd/3rd choice right back. Assuming we keep Connolly, I think we only need a new centre midfielder, and a new winger. I'd like to see one from : Chris Lines, Chris Taylor, Jonjo Shelvey, Nicky Bailey, Neil Danns, Darren Ambrose signed as a centre mid. Don't know about wingers; that lad at Brentford who played left wing was one of the better ones I've seen this season - Myles Weston. -
If we're talking speed limits; Hit me at 40mph and there's an 80% chance I'll die. Hit me at 30mph and there's an 80% chance I'll live. Promotes gambling. R. Gervais. FAME live tour.

Saints v Hartlepool first half, halftime and second half thread.

To be fair, you're right. We look really dangerous from those opposition free kicks Waigo gives away for being permanently offside. -

Lambert. Barnard. Connelly. Puncheon. Lallana. That's 5 reasons. -
No. Swindon in 6th have 63 from 35. 1.8 per game. If they were to continue that form for the remaining 11 games they would end on 82.8 points (83). We are on 47 with 12 games left. Even if by some miracle we win all 12, that only puts us on 83. We have to rely on two of the teams in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th to go on a really bad run. One team, maybe, but not two. And I don't see us winning all 12. We'll drop points away from home somewhere along the way. I've believed all season but looking at the table tonight I just don't think it's possible.
-
Fonte was excellent today but Jaidi put in probably the most solid centre back performance from any Saints centre back in the last 10 years. He was epic. First half we were brilliant in attack-Lallana and Puncheon were different class. Second half, as a defensive unit, we were immense. Even more satisfying than Huddersfield today.

free agent isnt he? Only 33...I'm just saying...

got my 4 on 01271. 01271. Believe in better.

Not for Walsall. Walsall 1-0 Millwall...

His 34500; 38500; 34500 fiasco actually annoyed me to the point that I couldn't let it go until Deano got the 4th. Buerk. I'd have a comedian in each match to keep spirits up.
