That result yesterday has been coming. We're just not playing good football - we haven't for a long time. We'd really found our stride at the end of last season, and now that free-flowing football is nowhere to be seen.

Time to rest a few after a couple of massive games: Bart Butterfield Martin Seaborne Dickson Holmes Gobern Chaplow Guly Doble Connolly

Last night was just the sort of game I wouldn't want Papa Waigo anywhere near. We were clearly playing a very tactical, defend from the front type of game. Guly came on and just picked up what Barnard had been doing no problem. Papa Waigo would've come on and shown zero intelligence as per usual and ruined the gameplan. Anyway, to answer your question, he's back with Fiorentina and he's made one substitute appearance where he played 22 minutes, and completed 7 of 9 passes. He had 1 shot, which was on target, and 1 cross which did not find a teammate. He made two tackles, won one, lost one. He got caught in possession once, and Fiorentina lost the game he played in. No stats on this, but considering he played 22 minutes, I'm assuming he was offside at least 10 times.

I thought both sides lacked any real fluidity. Neither side can claim to have dominated. Brighton try to pass the opposition to death but NA had his tactics spot on. Lambert and Barnard pressed their centre backs and full backs all night to stop them playing, and Schneiderlin too was right up there pressing whenever Ankergren had the ball. There were glimpses of good football from both sides but the pressing from both sides defensively meant that most attacks dried up. It was a great tactical game to watch. The shots stats surprised me-I can't remember too many good chances we had. The best was Lamberts header in the second half. Terrible miss and that should spell the end of his run in the team for a few games-I'm sorry but he's just not scoring and if he was anyone else, he would have been dropped by now. He should have scored from that chance. Barnard was class again-player of the season for me so far. Thought defensively as a team we were superb. Can't fault anyone though on overall performance. Having Punch from the bench tonight might have been useful. Where was Connolly?

Dave is always puzzled.

Yes Dave, a save in the first 5 minutes definitely 'kept Peterborough in the game'....If that had gone in, game over....

I had a fiver on 3-1 at 18/1. Bless you Adam!

I think the mostpleasing thing is that we are up there in the form table despite not really playing to the levels we played at last season (Tranmere game aside). We seem to be getting results despite not being convincing and hitting full stride. Bodes well for the rest of the season.

Anyone else getting annoyed by the amount of times NA says 'It's as simple as that'?! If it's so simple Nige, why did we lose 2-0 last week?!
-
anyone else notice the way Barnard was shielding his hand when he dived for that header near the end. Looking at it again on Saints player, he got up shielding it. Berk.

Chaplow - signed a 2 and a half year deal - OFFICIAL

Great signing. Add the fact that Lallana is back, Richardson is back shortly, opening up the possibility of Butterfield playing in centre midfield, and suddenly everything seems a little more rosy. Makes me want to start going to games again. -
Strange how they went with a headline of Fitness Boost, when in reality, all we learned was that Adam Lallana and Aaron Martin are still both injured, but in addition, we learned Barnard and Connolly are both now injured. How is that 'boosting'? That's the same news plus bad news. There's absolutely no good news there.

Lallana is in my opinion comfortably our best player. He was last season - but 30 goals tends to get the headlines more than the guy who created a lot of them (and scored 20 himself along the way). Lallana is absolute class - his touch is immaculate. Teams can put two men on him and he'll still come out on top. He's the best player in the league too. Frankly, he'd be in the top 5-10 players in The Championship. The guy should be playing way above this level - he'd be a threat in the Premier League. He wasn't even fully fit against Bolton in the CC and he still scared the hell out of their full back.

I have heard tonight that Alan Curbishley will be appointed early next week. Just got a text saying hot tip, and I'll buy you a pint if I'm wrong but Curbishley will be appointed early next week. From a guy never ever known to have bought a pint for anyone in his life.

I'm beginning to think that you're redundant.

Some semi valid points made but: a) Dorrans is still playing Premier League. Do Prado could still be playing Serie A for Cesena b) Kevin Phillips was way into his 30's and if you re-read his comments on that move, he decided to leave because he was told he was unlikely to start and he felt at his age he needed to be playing regularly c) the Pitman comment isn't the same thing. And he's still moving up the leagues, not down. Also, players 'knowing their limit'-Do Prado was top scorer from midfield. If he isnt good enough to stay in their team in Serie A, then I would suggest they would need to buy 8 or 9 new starters. So in summary, I was wrong. They weren't semi valid. They just weren't valid. I reckon we'll find out at some point that Cortese has links to the Mafia - and used his hired muscle to secure Papa last year and Do Prado this year... Now that's a rumour...
-
I haven't trawler through all 9 pages but anyone else a little suspicious about this signing? The guy has bumped around from club to club, he banged in 9 goals in a promotion season to Serie A last year, he supposedly attracted interest from Roma, but he rejects Serie A football to play League One football in England? Pull the other one. Something is dodgy about this deal. It's like Dorrans at West Brom, played well in their promotion season, attracts interest from West Ham, but rejects Premier League football to play in C. Doesn't happen. There's more to this than meets the eye.

Frank Nouble?

If we're going to explore that option, I'd much rather go for The Great Khali. 7ft 1. He's getting on a bit (37), but he certainly has the height to trouble centre backs in this league. HCDAJFU.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Khali

Lee Miller? Can't get a game for Middlesborough now they've signed Kris Boyd.

I'm not often ITK, and quite often post wind ups to, well, wind you lot up and watch your ******** grow. However, in this instance, I am ITK. I've met Coppell's son, Mark, who is a golfing friend of a friend in the US and he was never contacted by Saints to manage them or take up a DOF role.
