United have said they are releasing Hargreaves this summer. Yes its completely ridiculous, but that signing would be amazing wouldn't it?! I know he's injury prone, but he's an awesome player and would slot in perfectly into the centre of our midfield. Here's hoping a miracle can be pulled off...!

Strachan Jones Hoddle Adkins Ball for me.
-
Jack Cork, Jamie O'Hara would both be great signings. Not sure why everyone is jumping on the Sean St Ledger bandwagon? I really don't rate the guy and don't think he's any better than what we already have. Youngish players I think should be the mandate. I don't see the point in someone like Beattie, Keane, Elliott or some of the other old players mentioned. We're building a club for the long term. Dale Jennings might be a good option. I think CMS is an absolute certainty assuming Peterborough don't go up. Ideally, Bompey go up and we can try to nab Pilkington too.

Wrong on both counts...I have a season ticket and I went to both the home game against D&R and the away game. I fully stand by what I said...the football we play this season is nowhere near as free flowing as we played towards the end of last season. We're a lot more direct this season. We are NOT the best footballing team in the division, to think we are is simply delusional.

Got to be honest, I actually don't see too much wrong with his comments. He said we played an individual game and set the game up so it was individual battles all over the pitch, which worked for us because we have the better individuals. true. He also said that we play the same style as D&R...I can't help but think he's not too far off the mark. We have better individuals like Lambert so the style works for us. He did omit to credit the fact we have Lallana and Chamberlain and do try to play football too, but a lot of our effective football has come from a direct style. Brighton play great football, can't argue with that. They will lose some games playing that way and never resorting to a direct style, but you can't argue with their results this season. They've been superb, but we got the better of them yesterday. I think this is all a fuss over nothing. Its not about Brighton or Poyet. This season had ONE aim. Promotion. Winning the title would have been a bonus but its not to be. We need promotion; this club is on the up. So are Brighton. I'm pretty sure we'll be playing them in the Premier League in 3 years time. Lets keep up the rivalry til then. Its fun!

Me too. I've got us losing at Rochdale and Brighton, and drawing at Orient and Brentford. Win the rest and I've got us going up on goal difference. I'd take it. As long as we finish second, I'd take going up by goals scored!
-
And he's out of contract in the summer. Aaron Martin too.
-
I can only assume you don't actually watch any games? When you watch him, he most definitely does not come across as lazy or laid back. He works really hard, forward and back.

To be honest, we looked far more effective on Tuesday night after they went off. Lallana is a must start every game if he's fit, but I wouldn't say the same for Chambo personally. Guly look well up for it when he came on on Tuesday. Personally, I'd go with Guly Hammond Stephens and Lallana regardless of whether Chambo is fit. Another thing I noticed from Tuesday is the number of Saints supporters laying into N'Guessen. There was one guy in block F who was complete *****. N'Guessen worked ****ing hard on Tuesday and had a perfectly good goal chalked off. He put in a couple of great crosses, and he drew two men every time. He's really not as bad as people make out. There were some heavy touches, but the same can be said of RL, AL, AOC and RC.

They certainly win the award for the most illiterate fans in the country.

Yeah he was there tonight. Don't know why but he was on the train up.

No Ifs, No Buts, We Have To Win Tomorrow To Go 2nd!!!

spot on, a win tonight, and I may start thinking this Saints team is different... -
'everyone' not 'everything'. Damn iPhone predictive text.

I still quite like Chaplow. I agree his direct contribution to games over the last 4 or 5 has dropped off but what he does is make good forward runs and take players with him. It allows Hammond more space and that's why everything suddenly thinks Hammond is playing so well. I personally think Chaplow with one of Schneiderlin and Hammond would be the ideal pairing because we get the most productivity from either of those pairings than we do Schneiderlin and Hammond playing together.

On Frimpong... “He is coming along well for a guy who has a cruciate,” said Arsene Wenger on December 30. “You count nine months and it is now nearly six. He is close to running and in one month he should start to play in training.” So from that we can assume he's been in training for a month or so....about time he started getting some games I would reckon....
-
Emmanuel Frimpong. Back from a serious injury, Arsenal might be prepared to let him go out and get some games. He was in and around their starting 11 after an amazing pre season before his injury. Would be a fantastic signing, if he's fit enough. 7 months on from an ACL injury. Or I'd have Punch back.

Couldn't make it last night - can someone give me a report on how Aaron Martin played? Also, was Forte really booed????
-
The most stupid thing ever said on radio.... World class finish from the Eastleigh striker.... Sure. Brighton losing. Huddersfield down to 10 men. C'mon, be a good day.
-
I'd like to see us put in a cheeky loan bid for Andre Bikey with a view to a permanent signing in the summer. I think he's the type of player we've always lacked - big quick ball winner who will put himself about and dominate. He can't get a game at Burnley and may not be in Howe's plans.

The difference between Southampton and Brighton...
Tom28 replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Look, this whole...'Poyet is better than Adkins' and 'we played better football under Pardew' is nonsense. Poyet had half a season with Brighton and a full pre-season to get them playing the way he wanted. Last season, they weren't anything special at all. I think Poyet's league results were 14 wins, 11 draws, 16 defeats. But their turnaround this season shows you the benefit of time under a new manager and the benefit of a full pre-season. Saints under Pardew weren't anything special for most of the season either. We were incredibly up and down during the early and mid parts of the season and really only hit our stride from the end of February onwards, winning 11 of our last 16 games with 2 draws and 3 defeats, starting with a 5-1 win against Walsall on 27th February. By the way, until that point we had 12 wins, 12 draws and 6 defeats - a total of 48 points from 30 games. We currently have 49 points from 29 games, with 45 of those points coming from Adkins' 24 games. Lets compare Adkins with Pardew as we get towards the end of the season (although thats still unfair considering Adkins started during the season - Pardew was at least in the building before a ball was kicked in the 2009/10 season). And lets judge Adkins against Poyet next season (although again that will still be unfair because we'll be playing Championship football next year whereas Poyet has been in League 1 this season). Great result last night against a good team that has beaten Brighton at home, Charlton at home, Peterborough at home, Huddersfield away, and Bournemouth away. -
Lets assume for a moment that there's some truth in this. So what? So what if the Liebherrs sell? If they sell, they will sell for a lot more than the 13 million they paid out, which means whomever comes in will not be short of a bob or two. And if the Liebherrs really do want out, then its because they have lost interest, and if that's the case, its hard to imagine they would throw much more money into the venture anyway. So, really, I'm not too bothered if this story is true or not. And nor should any of us be. Infrastructure is in place now to keep the club on a level footing - that will remain in place no matter who owns the football club.
-
I can't start new threads but this may be worth one. I took a look and Martin is out of contract this summer. So I looked at who else has a contract expiring this summer.... Aaron Martin - 18month contract in November 2009 Rahdi Jaidi - 2 year contract in September 2009 Dan Harding - 2 year contract in July 2009 Danny Butterfield - 1 year contract in July 2010 David Connolly - 1 year contract in July 2010 Also expiring I think are (but I can't find confirmation): Lee Holmes Kelvin Davis Potentially we could only be left with Bart, Richardson, Dickson, Seaborne and Fonte of the existing goalkeepers and defenders.
-
I do agree Fonte is very good. I do have a concern though that at a higher level, he might cause us problems with the amount of free kicks he gives away in dangerous positions but trying to win balls that he cant win. Better teams will punish us from those positions but we get away with them in League 1. Jaidi over Seaborne every time for me, regardless of who we play. Not seen enough of Martin, but what I've seen, I like. Especially the way he handled an in form Kevin Davies who made the England squad shortly after playing against us. Martin and Fonte will be first choice next season.
