No Sam McQueen tonight or Harrison Reed for the U21's so they'll be in the squad tomorrow I would imagine.

There's a lot of optimism on here which is nice to see but I have two concerns: 1) this is more of an observation really which is that many on here are saying we now have a deeper squad than last year. What I see is that we have replaced most of the the players we have sold or loaned (7 in, 9 out), and not replaced the players we let go at the end of their contracts. I don't see how that has given us a deeper squad? Can someone who thinks we have a deeper squad please explain that to me? 2) I still have reservations about the ability to blend a number of new players together. The win at a West Ham was a positive sign but just a week earlier we looked like a group of individuals. It won't be like West Ham each week, certainly not for a while at least. History shows that very few clubs that have made a large number of additions in the summer have been successful in the short term so I do think the early part of this season, and perhaps the season on the whole, might be a struggle. I hope not, but I'm expecting/preparing for that and anything else is a bonus. I think it's too much to expect a top 10 finish again despite the quality of the new signings.

I'm chuffed to bits with the win, and I do think we've made some great signings (Tadic and Pelle will turn out to be great buys, as will Bertrand, Long, Forster and Gardos). But I disagree with your comment about depth. If we're winning a game then yes, Cork and Wanyama are great to bring off the bench. If we're losing though, who do we bring on? Mayuka? Please. We need to sign 2 or 3 more. Winger, striker (unless Gallagher is available?!) and a right back (ideally one who can play centre back). We have depth at some positions; we are still weak in others. Koeman has practically admitted as much.

Anyone that thought we'd have clicked right away with all these new players up top must be mad. Give them a break. I'm just thankful we look solid at the back. If we sneak a few 1-0's in the early part of the season I'll be chuffed, and gradually we'll start to click up front. Anyone criticising Pelle now is going to look pretty foolish in 2 months time I reckon.

Fantastic signing when it happens.

But we could have stopped them. If we'd shown some ambition and said to Pochettino we'd give him £50m to build a squad to crack into the top four, he'd have stayed and so would the players. Our fate was sealed the minute the board told him that Shaw and Lallana were being sold. We had a massive opportunity at the end of last season. The board have failed us and missed the opportunity of a lifetime, because they didn't believe we could make the jump into the too four. Weak.

Too ill to train but has been able to get fitted for golf clubs and go to the barbers. Hmmm....

Chambers is definitely going I'm afraid (had it confirmed). I'm possibly more annoyed about him going than any of the others. Shaw was off the minute the media started promoting him as the next best thing since sliced bread. Lallana had a great season and was at the age where he needed to move on if he was ever going to. Lovren was one of the best two centre backs in the premier league last season so can understand him leaving. Lambert was offered his dream move. Chambers though is still very much in that "he's got a lot of potential" stage and so selling him now makes no sense. Hold off for a season and you could double your money. Pathetic. I'm developing a real hatred for the management of our club.

Lovren? Wanyama? Both last season. Boruc? Davis? Clyne? Cork? Basically, plenty.

Could we possibly end 14/15 with 4 england internationals in our squad again?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the next saints player to play in a game for England will be Calum Chambers closely followed by Harrison Reed. -
Not sure why there is the fuss about Cork and his lack of a contract offer. The fact of the matter is it's just not a priority at the moment. He's a squad player; when everyone is fit, he wouldn't make the starting eleven. The stats show last season how much more effective we were with Wanyama in the side rather than Cork. He's a solid player and one we should keep hold of because he's reliable and gives us good squad depth at the position, but he's got another year on his contract and therefore there's not a big rush to get it sorted. There's obviously a risk he chooses not to sign and he goes on a free at the end of the season but I would imagine the club sees the risk of spending time on his contract now and spending less time on other priorities and potentially missing out on other priorities such as new singings etc, as a bigger risk.

Hireonomy | Premier League Fantasy Football League
Tom28 replied to SO16_Saint's topic in The Saints
I stumbled across this from a facebook link...a new fantasy football game where you enter as a group and then there is a sealed-bid auction for players at the start of the season so everyone has unique squads, and then each week there is a fixture where you pit your starting 11 against the starting 11 from one of your mates. Whichever starting eleven gets the most points that week picks up 3 league points. If you draw, you get 1 point each. I've signed up to it with some mates. Looks good and a bit different to the usual format. http://signup.fantasyfootballrivals.com/ -
I heard that we had a bigger offer on the table than what Veho were offering but that Rogers opted to go with Veho (which was a deal he'd lined up independently of the Sales and Marketing team). I don't have all the facts so there may be more to it, but I know we didn't accept accept the highest offer on the shirt deal.

Where's Wanyama?
-
There's a difference though. With the exception of Luis Suarez, Liverpool will have retained all of their first team line up so on the first day of the season they can play their team from last season and slowly integrate the new signings. In our case, we're looking at possibly a 40-50% turnover in our first eleven. Our new players will have to be dropped in on day one.

Lallana completes move to LFC for a fee of around £25m
Tom28 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Nothing surprising in there; it's all cliche stuff. Not sure why everyone is getting so worked up. Most surprising thing in the whole interview was that Rickie Lambert has a mortgage.... -
Spin this however you like, but the failure to get a contract in place for teamwear with a quality manufacturer in time for the season is amateurish.
-
Worked well for Sunderland and Di Canio last season. Tell me the last team that sold a number or core players and replaced them, and then managed to get that new team to gel? This is a fact that a lot of you seem to be missing.
-
Clyne to Arsenal has been agreed apparently.

"For all Shaw's talent it is an astonishing price to ask for a left back who is still learning his trade, and has yet to play a competitive international." What the Daily Mail don't appear to have grasped is that valuation is set by the selling club, not by the buying club and certainly not by the media. He may not be worth £40m to Utd, or to the Daily Mail, but if he's worth that to Saints, that is frankly all that matters. And it shouldn't be astonishing.

Spurs in our 7th match. With any luck MP will have lost his first 6 and a win there would seal his fate....
