Saints 1 Palace 0 - Post Match Nerve Reconstruction
Tom28 replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Pretty poor game to be honest. Defended well apart from a dodgy 10 mins at the start of the second half. We aren't clicking up front at all. Pelle is too easy to defend against; he plays right down the middle and never moves and that means the centre halves never get pulled apart. That makes life very difficult to create space. With Long up top, he drags the centre halves across the pitch which opens up gaps for midfielder and wingers to exploit. He has to start for a few games for me. -
Good player but he looks shot, mentally. I think he needs a rest. I would play Elia, Mane, Djuricic and Tadic up top in the next one as a fluid front four.
-
Me. And don't believe everything you read about Liverpool/Real Sociedad. He's coming to Saints.
-
Strange thread. I thought he was great today. He was always picking up second balls in the final third and was key to most of our attacks. He's getting himself in the right positions. Once he pops his cherry, he'll start banging goals in. He'll be a regular 10-15 goal midfielder in seasons to come.
-
Surely it would be worth putting McCarthy or McQueen on the bench?
-
I've heard that he's already agreed to join us in the summer.
-
Lambert.
-
You sir, are clueless.
-
What a load of ********. You know Chelsea and Liverpool lost there, right? A win would be a fantastic result, a draw a good result and a defeat not the end of the world.
-
I would rather we brought Jack Stephens or Jordan Turnbull back from loan if it was required. Assuming we are permitted to do so; I would hope that in at least one of their contracts we inserted a clause to allow us to do that in the event of an injury crisis. Losing TA for an extended period of time as well as Yoshida for a few games exposes us at RB and CB.
-
theres a lot of people hopeful about this one. I'm not. Utd's home record is excellent and they're on a great run. Think we'll lose 2-1 unfortunately.
-
No law. It's just a fact that he is consistently overlooked in favour of younger or flashier players, not just by the media but most of our fans too.
-
Steven Davis. He is so so underrated, but massively important to the team. His work rate is unbelievable; he's the guy that links play with the forwards but he never neglects defensive duties either. His first touch for the second goal against Arsenal was ridiculous.
-
That Le Tissier goal against Arsenal always brings a tear to my eye. I've never been as happy at a football ground as I was when that goal went in. Unbelievable...last minute, 2 - 2, Le Tissier off the bench to score the winner in his last game and Saints' last game at the Dell. Every Saints supporter walking to the ground that day will have hoped that would have happened and the fact it did is incredible.
-
Charlie Austin for me. We should have signed him a few years back.
-
There's no doubt he is excellent, and he oozes composure and quality. However, the way our team is so well set up, and the protection the midfield give the back four, most centre backs would look good. Just look at Lovren this year. But he hasn't put a foot wrong all season, and his midfield performance against Arsenal away in the league was one of the best performances of the season. He would be a fantastic permanent signing.

I had 11 in my line up

Forster Toby Fonte Yoshida Targett Morgan Schneiderlin Davis JWP Pelle Long Subs: Davis, Gardos, McCarthy, Reed, Tadic, Mane, Mayuka
-
We have to go back to what made us so strong which was a consistent back five. So, Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Toby, Bertrand. Up top, back to Pelle, Tadic and Long for me. Mane simply cannot play, and Mayuka should be nowhere near the bench. I cannot fathom that the likes of Seager and Rowe are worse than Mayuka. So that leaves the midfield three. If Davis is fit, then I'd go with Reed, JWP and Davis. Reed surely has to play this week?!
-
That was about as bad as I can recall us playing in the last 6 years. What a horrendous evening all round losing three players to suspension for the weekend.
-
And Pelle. And bring Schneiderlin on near the end to pick one up too.
