I wouldnt say miles, we were a way off yes, but arguably closer then we have ever been, and likely not be that close again. Some modest spending on 3 players would have put us in a much better position. And perhaps it would have been enough to appease some of the players. We'll never know Like I said, I always knew we'd lose 1-2 but this level of loss is rediculous

So if we had such an infinately talented squad, surely we werent far from challenging at a higher level ? I imagine if that were the case and the players believed it wouldnt take an extortionate level of spending to get us there that a refusal to back the team would be pretty demoralising. Hence losing a manager and 4 players

Equally comical how we were nowhere near CL quality despite having an abundance if players bought by cL clubs ?...

Apart from hiring a pr agency and explaining we arent a selling club ? Not doing any business with any media who help spread rumours of discontent ? Selling stories and giving access for positive stories ? Other than that no idea

This And MLG for the hundreth time you wont be able to avoid losing players, but you can help stop it. The big teams realise we are an easy target right now. Players discontent, the board obviously negotiable. You can always just say 'your not going anywhere' but we are obviously not good at that. I can easily triple my wages, Im happy where I am with the job I have right now. More often then not it takes you to start looking before you get tempted. And I expect the players started looking and hence liverpool came in for the kill. I also doubt we got the fees mentioned if im honest

We hold their footballing registration, you can refuse to do anything, they are happy to sign long contracts, hold them to it. Do what NC did, give them a pay rise, promise them CL ambition and buy a player, you never know they might be stupid enough to believe you. Make friends with the media, serve them snippets you want them to write, pay them off. Whatever, its all part of a football boards arsenal. Like you keep ignoring, we were bound to lose players, its the ease, the amount and the reported discontent thats most worrying, but ignore it and call me a fool if you wish

I think if the board had hit the ground running they may have appeased the players quicker and set up a front against the media. We are the go to club right now, the meal ticket, both for the top teams and the papers. Id fully expect we would have lost players, but would we have seen it at this level and this noisy ? Honestly ? I dont think so. I know people keep bringing him up but realistically NC had his media allies, and managed players better IMO You can always say no, like I said, Id expect a couple to leave, but not this many with this level of discontebt. Absolutely bang on, nothing intentional IMO but naive and incompetance. We will come out of it, but it made the players minds up and allowed the vultures (media and clubs) to circle

Its a variable, the fact that 4 are leaving possibly 5 ? That strikes me that there are certain issues that have been capitalised on IMO We will get through it, it wont be the end of saints etc, ut its a poor situation that hasnt been handled particularly effectively. Id argue that saying 'its all CL football' is a naive as those talking about asset stripping. Im saying the board are obviousky trying, they just arent really managing very well.

Nobody wanted Vorm, michu, allen, britton, the cb (cant remember name right now) or either winger ? Or were they just better prepared at keeping the players and the runours quiet ? I love how we are the only side outside of the top 6 thats ever had major interest in our players, makes me feel so proud

The irony is that you could easily just reword your post to fit the other agenda. FWIW I think some of it is definately the bigger club arguement but ignoring the fact it could be board incompetance is as moronic as it is hypocritical. Still think they've been very niave, I dont agree with the whole assett stripping rubbish, they have just failed to control the footballing side IMO. Id expect to lose one or two after last year, but 4 ? 5 ? Thats rediculous and borderlines a dangerous situation for a football team. Regardless of the incomings losing our spine is incredibly disruptive
