  1. Totally disagree. I believe ST holders should have priority over non-ST holders in all cases with regards to tickets. ST holders with the most aways should get priority when the allocations are smaller. At the end of the day, ST holders' money all goes directly to the club. If someone lives in Birmingham and has been to the 3 local away games, why should they get a ticket above someone who has forked out 400 quid to buy a ST?
  2. It's a bit different though. Think it's more the discrimination against a particular group of people, rather than the dislike of individuals. Don't get me wrong, i think the arrests are a bit of a joke, but homophobic chanting isn't the nicest thing in the world. When i say this i mean songs like "HIV Positive" and "we are southampton, we ****ing hate queers". The "holding hands" and "here for the shopping" songs are all good banter IMO. There is a line, and when it gets crossed it's not the nicest thing to hear. A good mate of mine is of Asian-origin, and i remember one away game at Luton a good number of saints fans were singing "town full of pakis" during the game. Although i am white, it was pretty uncomfortable to hear and i know my mate felt pretty **** about it. I'd be interested to hear from a gay saints fan about which songs he finds offensive, or makes him feel uncomfortable...
  3. LVSaint - If you have any sense at all, make sure you never even consider supporting the Minnesota Vikings. I've been a fan since the mid 90s and they have broken my heart on several occasions. The last being against the Saints in the NFC Championship game, when the game was in our hands and Brett through a totally unnecessary pick. Guess that was the nature of Brett Favre though! It's also particularly sickening being a Viking seeing your two big rivals (Bears and Packers) in such good form. The Pack offense looks completely unstoppable to me - all down to the guy pulling in the trigger, and the Bears are possibly one of the most complete sides in all of football. With the Lions coming good now, i'm preparing for a long long time in the NFC North wilderness. That's all assuming the team stays in Minnesota. With the stadium fiasco, the franchise could well end up moving to LA in the next year or two. If that is the case, i will never watch another NFL game. Be interesting to see how the next few weeks plays out though. Gotta say i am so surprised by the 49ers. I know they are in a terrible division, but to be where they are at this stage speaks volumes about the kind of coach that Harbaugh is. Alex Smith has also impressed me this year. Still think that they'll be in the market for a QB in the off season. Especially as they appear to have a team that is capable of winning very soon. I'm looking at the Colts and the high probability of them drafting Andrew Luck. With Peyton Manning just sat there, I wonder if San Fran might make a trade for him. If they're not considering it, then they should. With the running game they've got, i reckon if they could grab Peyton i reckon they'd be automatically up there with the Pack ruling the NFC. Having said that, you could say that about several teams who might want Manning. The Jets are one that automatically spring to mind. Time will tell i guess...
  4. Well said. Just read the article – what a load of absolute garbage. I’m sorry, but anyone who thinks that this venture is a good idea is either thick, or they are the owner of a very large business. Perhaps some tories will like the idea of this, but I think if they’re being honest with themselves, they’ll admit that it is just the rich using the poor for free labour (not a million miles away from modern day slavery). It is a disgrace that the government think they can use OUR naive young people for free labour to butter up the big business owners. If tescos need shelf stackers, then surely that would indicate they need more staff. Therefore, at least have the decency to give them proper jobs, rather than getting them to work for free and fobbing it off as work experience. It’s disgusting. Another issue I have with it – why are my taxes paying for big booming businesses to employee staff for free?? It’s not as if tescos are struggling in this horrendous economic climate. Is it the case that our taxes are now being used as “bribe” money to rich business owners to keep them on the government’s side? Ridiculous way to run the country! If we’re looking at the idea of the unemployed doing a bit of genuine “work experience” then I am 100% all for it. For example, how about offering work experience in the public services – a realistic and potentially-fruitful career for a young person who is jobless having just left school/college. As far as I can see it, everyone is a winner in that case. The government would be seen to be actively getting young people into some kind of work, the young people themselves would be given an opportunity to impress and broaden their horizons and the public services (whatever it may be) would get a valuable extra body to help wherever they see fit. There is simply NO benefit to any young person for working, below the minimum wage, stacking shelves at tescos.
  5. The main advice i'd give to students is to make sure they are doing some voluntary work experience, in breaks in their study (i've done uni and i know how much time you guys have off). Even if you don't know what you want to do yet, then that's even more reason to experiment in working in different environments. Although gaining a degree is fairly important, as someone else pointed out, 40% of guys your age now have one. However, the mistake most of these make is they do nothing in between their hours of study. Get yourself ahead of the game now and start emailing/phoning up companies for work experience in your next study break. I don't know this for a fact, but if you are interested in radio, then go down to all the local stations (solent, breeze, wave etc) and see if you can arrange some voluntary work for a week. With the market being as competitive as ever now, you simply won't be able to do "work experience" after you've graduated. Chances are, employers will look at you and wonder what you've been doing for the 20 odd weeks when you weren't at uni. Now obviously, some markets are far more competitive than others, but the point still stands. Get your experience done now. Also, never complain about student life, you've got it so incredibly easy at the minute. Take full advantage of the partying, drinking, ****ging different girls every night of the week whilst you can, as **** gets real once you graduate.
  6. NO Newcastle fan has the right to whinge about the stadium name change after hearing how much they're paying for season tickets over the next decade. Unbelievably decent of Mike Ashley.
  7. Just read the article. Pigs wonder why they are so hated by a lot of the public. They do nothing to enhance their reputation by producing articles like that. ****ing hate them.
  8. You'll be fine mate. I reckon all season ticket holders who apply will get a ticket. There will probably even be a couple of hundred left for members to fight over. The whole situation has been dealt by the police like an absolute circus and i know of plenty of season ticket holders who now aren't bothering to go. I haven't yet decided whether a day relaxing down the pub is my preferred option. The more i hear (the double-decker bus thing - you gotta be kidding me???), the more i think i'll jus stay in Southampton and not be pushed around unnecessarily by police.
  9. Am i the only one who thinks jail is ridiculously harsh?? Perhaps the 2 of the 3 who lied in court and pleaded not guilty deserved it, but it seems ridiculously harsh on the young lad who seemed to show genuine remorse at what he'd done. As JRM pointed out, MLT did virtually the same thing and nothing was made of it. These cricketers aren't on huge money, they are young men who (particularly in Pakistan's case) spend up to 9 months of the year away from home. Of course what they did was really wrong, but i would have much rather seen a massive fine and perhaps a much bigger ban. That is punishment enough in my opinion.
  10. Just had a browse through the thread. People like Jonny make me ****ing sick. Being ripped off by a cocky little gob****e is the worst feeling in the world - i have been there. The fact you were driving a car like that in the first place says a lot about you anyway. Hope the fella gets his hands on you and gives you a good ****ing kicking.
  11. Although that will never happen, teams will look at Tuesday's game and probably decide to set up ultra defensively from the go at SMS from now on. 11 men largely behind the ball and look to catch us on the break. It is a tactic that i'd be slightly concerned about. Don't think we're all that great at breaking sides down when they park the bus. Only time will tell i guess!
  12. Although i hate Ferguson with a passion after his antics last season, he is certainly right about our players getting their man (deservedly) sent off. When the second foul was committed, the ref didn't seem to be interested in giving the guy a second yellow. But when at least 3 of our players held their hands up and moaned, the ref realised that the tackle did merit a second yellow and promptly sent the guy off. Now, it was a definite sending off. But i think our players definitely influenced the ref on this occasion. As for whether i think it's right or not, i have no opinion. Players do it in EVERY team in the country so why shouldn't ours? Sad, but the way football has gone now.
  13. Must admit, i'm feeling more and more nervous before every game now. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that i'm at work and haven't had 10 pints (the usual pregame ritual on a Saturday). I think it's great news that Lee Tomlin is suspended. He's a big threat for them. However, i really think this is a potential banana skin for us. If they come off, Posh can be arguably the most potent front line in the league. Think this game will be much closer than Saturday...
  14. Well said mate. The ticket office is a total embarrassment, as are the arrangements for this game. I actually can't believe that they are forcing me to travel and waste money driving to SMS when i live the other side of Portsmouth. It really does annoy the **** out of me. As far as i'm concerned, troublemakers are troublemakers and you'll always get them with a rivalry like ours. By putting all the families, couples and troublemakers together on coaches, all they are going to do is create an angry and potentially scary atmosphere on the coaches for everyone. If you have a train service running, chances are most of the young lads looking for trouble are going to go on that. If they want to try there luck having a scrap in that part of town, then let them and let them once again risk feeling the full force of the law. I have absolutely no problem with guys wanting a scrap if they can get away with it in a quiet part of town. Not my cuppa tea, so i'll let them get on with it. However, what i DO have a massive problem with is the authorites forcing the troublemakers to mix with the law-abiding families on the coaches. If we win, stick your house on us getting pelted by bricks on our way out of pompey. The troublemaking saints lads, will probably like this and be egging them on, but frankly, it's not fair to subject the rest of the coach (the majority) to this kind of abuse. It may have happened anyway, but putting all the saints fans together just makes it easier for the troublemakers who want a fight. As for the ticket office. Well, i've had ths problem last time where they miss off aways. I know they haven't counted one of the aways i've done, no doubt they'll have missed another along the way. They don't even accept ticket stubs as i had this from the Cardiff game when i realised they hadn't added it on. It's a total joke down there.
  15. "Make or break" is probably the wrong expression, but i can definitely see where Alpine is coming from. For me the month should go a long way to answering some questions (perhaps doubts) i have about us. No one can argue that it hasn't been a fantastic start, and i think for most of us, expectations have been raised. Before the season i thought we might be able to nick a play off place. Well, how well we do this month should give us a good indication on if that is what we should be aiming for, or if automatic promotion is a realistic target. I still have doubts about our team, especially away from home - however i think that is more to do with that lingering nag in the back of my brain that is telling me that saints will always let me down no matter how good it seems sometimes.
  16. He mentioned Tiss's name. That in itself was totally unnecessary and it shows that the issue between the pair of them is more than just about the involvment with Pinnacle. Slagging him off is one thing, but making it hard for Matt to go to games at all?? That is an embarrassing way to treat a man who has shown as much loyalty to this club as Matthew Le Tissier. You are a great chairman Mr Cortese, stick to that and get off your high horse with regards to a few of the greatest servents this club has ever seen.
  17. Errr, i think you (and an awful lot of fans on here) should get your facts right. Can't comment on McMenemy but i know that both Tiss and Frannie have NEVER asked for free tickets. All they've wanted to do was pay normally and go and watch but Cortese even had an issue with them being in the ground. That is childish and pathetic. Cortese does a LOT of good things, but he seriously needs to get over this little tiff he has with 2 of the clubs great guys of the last 20 years. This interview with the sun was a stupid thing to do. He should pick up the phone and attempt to sit down with all 3 of them and settle their differences. He won't though.
  18. MOST of them don't, no. That is the point. Tennis is the only really physical sport that i can think of that has so little time off to recover. Take football for example. If a player stays injury free all year (pretty unlikely), they'll play maybe 45-50 games a year. The schedules will also allow them at least a 3 days break in between games. Tennis does not work like that. Obviously everyone knows just how grueling the grand slam fortnights can be. But if you take the masters events and some of the smaller tournaments, players will often have to win 5 matches in 5 days to get to the final. That's not to mention that some of these events are back-to-back. And then, you need to factor in the traveling that these guys do. As another poster mentioned, a lot of the top guys were unable to compete in the majors this year as they were either injured or completely burned out. Frankly, I'm not surprised the players are saying enough is enough and want to go on strike.
  19. I'm always surprised at the hate a lot of our fans have for Gus Poyet. As a player i used to love watching him play, and as a manager i have nothing but respect for the bloke. He's doing an unbelievable job and i'm picking him to manage one of the big london clubs in the next few years (Chelsea/Spurs perhaps). Fans of both sides get too easily wound up by managers trading playground taunts. It's pantomine really and Adkins and Poyet are both 'guilty' of it. I personally find the 'mind games' pretty entertaining and it all makes for a tastier atmosphere when we play them. I love it no more than if us and Brighton finished in the top 2, whilst big spenders West Ham and Leicester had to make do with the lottery of the play-offs. Won't happen, but still, a nice thought.
  20. They haven't got a prayer mate! I got them finishing last in the worst division in football (NFC West). They may well wind up with the worst record in football for my money - something they may see as a blessing, with the chance to snare Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the next draft...
  21. Very much looking forward to it all kicking off this week - must say, sunday nights just aren't the same without a bit of NFL. Should be a very interesting year. I can't say i'm expecting anything from my Vikings. I reckon we'll do well to finish the season above .500 in our division. Look out for the Lions to be a strong force in the NFC. I can see them grabbing a wildcard spot if Stafford says healthy. You've also gotta love what Philly have done in the off season (although i seem to tip them to win it every year). Here are my divisional picks anyway: AFC East - Patriots North - Ravens South - Houston West - Chargers NFC East - Philly North - Packers South - Saints West - Rams
  22. Nail on the head. Although, i don't hate him, i just feel really sorry for him. He clearly has no life or friends. Must admit though, sometimes it is good to laugh at the boring, negative, computer-geek, virgin.
  23. He's joking mate.
  24. If Stoke City had searched this forum for fans opinions on Ricardo Fuller, they would never have signed him. Same could be said for several players that have left us over the past decade and gone on to make an impact at other clubs. Look at Kevin Davies. How many of us would have predicted he'd leave us and go on to play for England? On the Gorkks/Fontaine debate, some seem to have formed an opinion without actually seeing either of them play - laughable.
  25. Totally agree with Rees (and disagree with the first two posts in this thread). His antics are quickly turning him into one of my favourite premier league players. Some of the **** he does is hilarious and i don't understand how anyone else can think otherwise. This video is up there with him trying to put a bip on. Great character and i hope he stays in England for a long time.
