Partly but if reports were true and he was genuinely considered the best person for the job after interview, there needs to be a level of conviction from those at the top to trust their judgement and know that a positive start will erode the fans initial negativity around the appointment.

It doesn’t take away that there is a broad trend of non white contestants leaving shows leaving earlier where there’s some sort of voting system. It’s human nature to try and connect and look for things we have in common which early on, our bias will draw us to visible commonalities - race, religion, class etc. We’re still a mostly white, Christian/agnostic country so that will naturally count against people who aren’t. Doesn’t mean we’re a racist country but does mean that some people are at a bit of a disadvantage until they’ve been given an opportunity to show their true character and values.

We could just sign a full back as could be cheaper and then get them to play as a centre back instead. At the level we’re at, they should be able to play all positions.
