Just an interesting aside to worry the righties - the Miliband's dad was a lecturer up here at Leeds University and a renowned Communist. Wondered if there are some repressed Communist tendencies buried within the two?
-
Not neccessarily my choice, and I'm not overly bothered as I have made clear before I am not a Labour supporter. But it would seem that David Miliband is certainly amongst the favourites to take over. It was interesting that he was very non-commital following the attempts to oust Brown back in January

Mehh still can't escape the fact he's a ginger

Have to admit i thought of him more as a poacher type than a target man. Wouldn't have him here, not that as it matters, clearly won't happen.

I quite like that England kit to be honest. Was hoping that seeing as we have started doing that Tailored by Umbro stuff that the new kit would be along these lines. I think the red sash and lack of sponsor would be quite cool if this is how it goes.

How Ladbrokes and Finktank think the election will go

Unsurprisingly my home seat of Ruislip-Northwood is Tory by about 92%. More worryingly - Have learnt there is an NF candidate standing in the area. Quite disturbing really. -
My word. I'm actually speechless.

I thought it was quite funny to be honest

You appear to have overlooked Pulis. I mean he may not have played, at all, but playing is merely an over-rated factor in these decisions. He brings errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm...

By all means feel free As I said before, I am not a Tory or Thatcherite - but I simply respect her as a politician. Thatcher had a vision of how she felt would be a better way to go about doing things politically. She then acted with strength of will and confidence in her convictions (oh so lacking in Gordon) to go about achieving this. Too many politicians are now simply concerned with electoral success. Politics is just a game, measured by electoral success. They seem to have forgotten what their job actually is - to make the country a better place for us to live, and once that is secured trying to achieve positive things for those around the world. This new trend became entrenched and institutionalised under New Labour (ditching everything the Labour Party stood for - clause 4), in particular it's obsession with spin and short term media victories at the expense of long term positive policy planning. However, the Tories are not innocent of this - and under David Cameron they have if anything taken this to a whole new level. I have said before and will say again - Cameron = Blair Mk II

The left are often quick to jump on the Tories of 1980's and in particular Mrs. Thatcher. However, it is of worth to note (and often forgotten by the left) what an absolute mess the country was in 1979. Thatcher's predecessor James Callaghan (who for what its worth was a very good man) left the country in all sorts of trouble. In many ways the situation was comparable to that of what we see now. Callaghan (like Brown) came to number 10 mid parliament, inheriting their own economic crisis. Both dithered and dallied (IMF Crisis) other solutions and both ultimately got things wrong. Labour in the 1970's were absolutely in the pocket of the Unions, who many believed we actually running the country instead of the government. This coupled with the "Lib-Lab pact" (sound familiar?) meant that the government was unable to do anything. Thatcher came to power, at a time of - which Callaghan himself described as - political "sea-change". The left's belief in Keynesian politics (tax and spend etc) was shown to be ineffective as it had failed to solve several economic crisis (take note Mr Brown). More importantly I think, was Thatcher's taking on of the Union's. Mrs Thatcher did what no other govt (Red or Blue) was prepared to do at the time and put the unions back in their place. Privatisation was essential at the time, money and emphasis needed to be moved onto the private sector as the government and the country were bankrupt. Also, it is worth keeping in mind that Mrs. T was elected three times. She cannot have been doing as much wrong as the left propaganda machine claimed if she managed to win three elections. I am not a Tory, and not a Thatcherite - but do get very bored of the Left's loathing of her. I was in a taxi yesterday, and the driver told me that if she was to die today - then he would take the day off tomorrow and buy a bottle of champagne, which is frankly disgusting. Thatcher was what the country needed at the time - which is reflected in the fact that the country elected her 3 times. Gordon really should look to the history books and understand that taxing and spending simply does not solve an economic crisis. The public sector (whilst i do believe it is a vital part of our society) will not take us out of recession. Haha also - lol at Labour's desperation wheeling out Blair again!

Good on them to be honest. Woy has quietly and unspectacularly gone about doing a very good job at Fulham. Built a decent, well organised TEAM, should serve as an example to many other clubs (I think ourselves included) what decent management can achieve

Does anyone else find the thought of Liverpool not in Europe at all (it could still happen) and Burnley in it. Would be funny. I'd most certainly enjoy watching that fat spanish waiter (Rafa) try and explain that one away.

Ah apologies, I read this on my phone whilst on the bus earlier, didn't notice you said about the iphone! As I do not own an iphone - and therefore the iiphone footy manager i cant say much about it! -
Good post. Have to say I agree almost wholeheartedly! What is great for me is that now when I talk about Saints with my friends they no longer see us as a laughing stock. My housemate is an Everton fan, and is genuinely jealous (though slightly excited on account of the fact I have made Saints his second team) of the position we find ourselves in. Obviously by this I do not mean league position. But what I do mean is the set up we have got here now. In terms of structure it is very possible to argue we are amongst the best in the country (oh how far we have come in that respect in just over 12 months!). Financially we are on a level of stability most clubs would happily take. Debt free and a wealthy owner not afraid to pump in the pennies. The redevelopment going into training and academy facilities. A manager who is clearly a cut above the level we find ourselves in (I must admit most of my mates I spoke to at the time of AP's appointment were impressed at our capture of him). And our ability to attract players who are clearly of a level above where we are. All in all, the immediate future looks very bright for Saints, and the next 2-3 season could potentially be some of the most memorable and enjoyable in this clubs history. Unlike clubs like Everton who, unless major investment can be found sharpish, seem to have little to play for and our likely to be squeezed by some of the bigger spending clubs around them. Mark my words, this is a club going places - and I for one cannot wait for the journey! COYS!

You do know you can use excess wage budget for transfer fees right? -
What an absolute king that man is!
