Tadic's penalty last week - 350th since the war
beatlesaint replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I do, never mind the tossers on here Futzhugh, what's the answer please ? -
Am I right in thinking we have had less direct shots on goal against us than any other team in the Premiership ? i know I'm right that we have the best defensive record in the league. So Kelvin in goal, and remember he is a good shot stopper, with that defence in front of him protecting him isn't the end if the world. There have been a fair few games Forster has had little to do, I see no reason for that to change as long as Jose, Toby and the full backs stay fit !

I'm gonna say we have missed 37 so whatever % rate that converts to........around 89% success rate. only based on my experience of watching Saints with Peach, Le Tiss, Beattie and Sir Rickie being pretty accurate to say the least. -
This is almost the same as Hoddle was saying about Fabregas before kick off yesterday. Starts well then goes off the boil. Difference is Fabregas is an established player, JWP is still young. I'm really hoping he comes through and becomes a really good player for us, but I do worry he won't. Oh and this dead ball specialist business, who took our worse free kick yesterday ? Yep near the end, great chance to put the ball in the box and it sails out behind the goal, JWP.

Post-Match Reaction: Chelsea 1-1 SAINTS
beatlesaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
its only because his confidence isn't as high as it has been, players always take an extra touch when low on confidence. I thought he played much better today though. -
Yep, the only exception being Spurs really.
-
Thats an interesting argument and observation actually. It still puzzles me as to why his club let him go out on loan, I mean if they really have two better centre backs than he looks in our team then wow !
-
Why ? Was he going to play Centre Forward and had he been playing would he have stopped the WBA and Liverpool screamers against us ?
-
Couldnt agree more
-
exactly this. He is 20, he has made over 60 appearances in the Premier League yet you would be hard pushed to say what his best attributes are. Forget the dead ball stuff for a minute. Is he an attacking midfielder, a holding or defensive midfielder, is he better in the middle or out wide ? He needs an identity, a position he can focus on and learn what strengths he needs for that position. Either work on his attacking play or work on his defensive play, let the versatile stuff come later if need be. But for now give the boy a definite role and see how he gets on.

I actually said his are not better than Morgan's were, I wasnt comparing him with anyone who plays for any other club. I'm still waiting for him to fire in a free kick a la Rickie, which if the pundits and annalists are to be believed he is more than capable of doing. Given some of the clap trap these pundits talk about Southampton I;m not inclined to take their word on JWP who to my eyes starts every season really well then fades. Hopefully as he gets older and develops more that will change :-)

Rodriguez given the all-clear and set to return next month
beatlesaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I'm with you on that, if we see him before the season ends he could be gone by August, if we dont see him this season he will be here in August ! -
No they aren't. His corners are no better than most of the ones Morgan swung in last night.
-
Jordan Sibley obviously well impressed, you can almost hear the sarcasm when reading his response. well done Echo.....****s !
-
Long is the obvious alternative to Pelle. It's not fair to say we don't have anyone else when it's Long's favoured position.
-
That just about sums him up. I remember being really impressed when we signed him but after a few games I thought "is that it then?" Felt the same when we signed Danny Fox too and I suddenly noticed after about 15 mins of his debut this big gaping unmanned area of the pitch where the left back should have been !
-
ok, yes I did
-
Oh that is just priceless. Well done Dejan

This all day long. Rooney been chatting away no doubt in the same way Stevie G did for Liverpool last year. Doesnt help that the England manager always talks about his players being at big clubs. Everytime one of ours gets called up I cringe cos you just know what will happen.... -

Excellent -
There's another one of the same ilk yep although he could shoot a bit !
-
Unfortunately much of this looks to be true after the past few games at least. He needs to be given a set role and work on it, I don't think he is good enough to be versatile yet. As I have said before, for you order ones, he reminds me of Neil Maddison, all promise, little substance.

Koeman says Mané was dropped due to discipline
beatlesaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Exactly. Wonder if he bothered to phone up and say he was running late ? 4.15 kick off, he only had all bloody day to get there didn't he
