I would be over the moon with a draw today. I am just looking at the fixtures and to be honest the next three - Fulham H, Stoke A and Hull H are the ones that for me will define what sort of season we will have. The old Saints would screw those games up big time. What will MP's Saints do with them ? That is my test, not today when even if we lose we are still above United with three games coming up to give us a chance of staying there for a while yet !

Totally agree. He was poor defensively in the Championship but got away with it due to the lower standard of players he was up against. Burnley fans told us on this very forum that whilst good going forward his defending was suspect. Let's not try to rewrite history and paint him as a hero in the promotion winning side when in reality he was fair or adequate.

I think maybe a fairer assessment will follow us playing a few more decent teams rather than those who have come to spoil (West Ham) so we have resorted to more direct tactics. Judge it after we have played everyone once. And what is their definition of a long ball I wonder ? Does a pass from one side of the pitch to the other without gaining any ground count ? I guess it does.

Having had to miss the Sunderland game but having seen the Real Sociedad friendly I was looking forward to seeing Wanyama yesterday. After about 30 mins I found myself asking in what way he was worth 12 million or better than Cork. Looked to me like at half time someone told him to start passing the bloody ball forward and he was much improved. I will be very interested to see how he develops over the next few months.

No its not you, I said that to the old man yesterday. Truth of the matter is that high energy pressing game died a death after a while last season too. We only seemed to play it against the top sides like Chelsea. Man City and Liverpool. When we were told that it was a fitness issue and that MP was doing a quick fix because there were certain things he couldnt introduce until pre-season I'm afraid I totally bought that. I dont know why its vanished, I thought and hoped it was the way forward. Perhaps it will make a return at Anfield on Saturday as its the first top team we have faced this season.

You can say that again. The Jay Rod one in the first half was terrible, it was like a four year old seeing how far he could kick it in front of him ! Osvaldo must wonder what the hell he has come to !
