No, it was the right decision. As a life long Liverpool fan he simply couldn't turn down the chance to play for them, even knowing he would be on the bench more often than not. I consider myself a 'first team regular' in my current job but I'd give it up in a heartbeat to be a fringe player at Saints for £40kpw. More likely than not he would be on the bench here anyway. We already tried to replace him with Osvaldo and it was becoming clear last season he was well past his sell by date. If Lambert had stayed we would still have bought Pelle. If Lambert can't get into the team ahead of no-hopers like Borini and Ballotelli then he'd have no chance against Pelle. Dare I say it, if Lambert wants regular football, the Championship is his level. I don't think he has it in him to be an effective Premier League striker every weekend. Just look at Grant Holt as an example.

I do wonder how long Liverpool can sustain their current model. Spunking all that transfer money and big wage packets on the likes of Carroll, Downing, Lallana, Lovren, Markovic whilst not qualifying for the Champs League can't be making their bank manager too happy. Added to that they've always had an Owen/Gerrard/Fowler/Carragher type talisman, with Gerrard on his way out it's hard to see where the next one will come from.

I'm not sure about that, Rickie doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the box to me. He might be a good coach but I wouldn't hire him based on sentimentality. We are in a position to pick the best personnel from around Europe so Rickie would have to prove himself in that field before giving him a coaching job.

No. He was booked against Liverpool, Swansea, Sunderland and Leicester.

Oh that Spurs performance was hilarious.

You are putting a lot of faith in Balloheskey, Borini, Lambert, Johnson et. al. overhauling what is already an 11 point gap. If we were putting those performances in with that team would you be betting on us to be top 4?

Bit of a cliche Trousers, you could say any game against a team below us is a banana skin. A bit disrespectful to Villa too I think, we shouldn't just go there and expect to win despite recent form. Don't forget we only took a point off them last year, although how they won that game at St Mary's I'll never know. Wont be an easy game and a point wouldn't be a disaster. A win would set us up brilliantly for our tough run of fixtures though and we have to be favourites. I wouldn't change the team from the Leicester game but with 17 international players departing we need to hope there are no injuries.

That's sort of a default setting for Roger whenever he reads Chambers name on here. Chambers will do alright at Arsenal and has time on his side. He isn't a stand out talent like Shaw is and I'd say £16m was a decent enough price for him.

I can't wait for the next edition of #asklovren on Twitter. He never did tell me what his favourite non-ferrous metal was and I'm eager to find out.

If results carry on like this it wont matter. If we're doing the business against everyone outside the top 6, whilst Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool are throwing points away we can stay ahead of them. West Ham and Stoke beat City Swansea beat Arsenal Leicester beat Man Utd Everyone beat Liverpool No reason we can't do likewise. The only team I look at and think we can't beat is Chelsea.

If you take Liverpool out of last years table then Everton would have been 4th on 72 points. I would say that is roughly the bench mark this year.
-
One has to feel sorry for Poch.
-
Pelle was offside. Had he challenged for that it would have been a free kick on the half way line and would have allowed Leicester to get men forward.
-
He doesn't look like the kind of bloke I'd want to have a misunderstanding with. "Ronald, I want to play up front." "Yes Victor" "Ronald, I want to play in goal next game." "Yes Victor, of course you can"

I asked my Liverpool supporting mate (from Norfolk I sh*t you not) what he thought of LALAL so far and he called me a smug tuuat and told me to f' off. It's hard to draw conclusions from such a short statement but the general impression I got was that he isn't happy.

Saints 2 Leicester 0 - Post Match Reactions
Lighthouse replied to Whitey Grandad's topic in The Saints
Aguero really is carrying Man City Alexis really is carrying Arsenal Pelle, Tadic, Wanyama, Bertrand, Davis, Forster, Schneiderlin, Cork, Clyne, Fonte and Alderweireld really are carrying Southampton. -
At what point does winning every game get tedious?

If that's him on the far left, he is playing further up the pitch than Leicester's strikers did today.
-
Wonder if any of the Lallana payments are appearance based. Could be a few years before we get our money.
-
Tadic for me, he has that little something special to unlock defences. I could so easily have given it to Pelle, Wanyama, Morgan, Clyne, Toby, Fonte or Bertrand. Then there are Cork, Davis and Forster who have been consistent and done little wrong. The agony of choice.

Better than the Vergini o.g.? Looked an absolute howler from where I was sat.

I haven't seen anything to suggest we only have £10m to spend. Pelle himself cost less than that, as did JRod. I think you can find a much better player than Lambert for under £10m. He would turn 33 about a month after we would sign him in January and at that age players go down hill fairly steadily. It's all well and good saying his game isn't about pace but in for periods of last season he looked lethargic and lacked the energy to lead the line. We've had by far the best years out of Lambert and quadrupled our money. That's a success on all fronts, it's time to let go. I'm sure our scouts have been looking at much better targets.
-
Not for me thanks. Taking all sentimentality out of the equation, if someone asked which player I want to sign in January, a 32 year old who can't score or even get on the pitch at Liverpool wouldn't be my answer.

I think the often hilarious Glen Johnson may also be a factor.
