Apparently it is Ian Brown's birthday also.

I wanted to watch that. It looked interesting. I think I like some weird shows. I've been enjoying the shows the Beeb have been doing about people in random scenarios, for example Pound Shop Wars (or something like that, it was about Pound Shops) and Allotment Wars.

Well it's not as if he hasn't won anything. Quite the opposite, he is in fact one of Arsenal's most successful managers. 4 FA Cups, 3 League Titles, 2 Doubles, a Champions League final. Yeah poor manager. All you are doing is showing how short-sighted you are, though we have seen this many times before. Arsenal were a mid-table side when he took over, and quickly transformed them into title contenders and a team contesting titles and cups (Double in his first-full season). He is also proving a perpetual myth-buster. Year-in, year-out finishing in the Top 4, whilst more-often than not making a net-profit in transfer dealings, and the club on the whole are profitable. How does he achieve this? Oh yeah, by signing young players, developing them, utilising them effectively and then selling them on, more often than not at a pretty tidy profit. But that, doesn't happen does it? The only way to qualify for the Champions League is to spend silly money and run at a loss, that's what all the experts on here keep telling us. I can't stand Wenger, I think he is annoying, blind, and a hypocrite (i.e. moaning about interest in Nasri whilst simultaneously talking about Oxo), but to say he is crap, or the reason for their 'lack of success' is just plain ignorant.
-
Or just that someone has run out of logical arguments. I can't stand the bloke, but to say he's crap is just nonsense. That list you post is disingenuous, cole was sold in 2006. He never played with theo, and Nasri wasn't signed until 2008. Yeah a lot of players were there, but most signed as kids, developed and usually sold on at a hefty profit at different points in their trophyless spell. It's not as if they were all at their peak whilst playing in the same team. Though let's face it, you've shown yourself really, false facts and then resulting to "oh just suck his cock" when you are wrong. What are you six?

Crikey, 110 is right. Poor Arsenal.
-
Fair enough, that he did. Clearly, I was confused. Apologies.
-
Pretty sure you are slightly confused there. It was Strachan, and we were 4th at xmas.

True, but they have qualified not just for the CL every season under his tenure, but also got to the 2nd round at least for quite a few consecutive years, including an appearance in the final, which they took the lead in IIRC? Did Lehmann revert to his previous incarnation as a clown and get sent off? Talking of clown keepers, they could have won the League Cup a couple of years ago if Sczency (sp) didn't also impersonate Bobo. I get why they are frustrated. But, I think they should be careful what they wish for. I could be way off the mark, but replacing AW would be huge. I believe he is so personally engrained in the entire set up at the club, that a change in management would likely set them back even further. I do think that he is perhaps a bit too stubborn for his own good, and has lost sight of success in this chase for his philosophy. Even his best teams 98 double winners, '04 Invincibles had experienced heads, leaders and 'destroyer' types (Campbell, Adams, Vieira). I really think with a couple of these types throughout the side they would be a lot more solid, consistent and a bigger threat for honours.

Wasn't this the first time Wenger had gone out the FA cup to a non-premier league side?

I miss Jose. I think he's nailed on to take on Fergie's job. Can't see any man that would take to the role as well. So, in a few years, you may well have a Utd under Jose option. -
Perhaps. Although it may also be down to HR's absolute willingness to jump through every media hoop and be their little pet. How many car window interviews do you see from Arsene?
-
Does it make me a loser, or a happy clappy, or lacking ambition that I would happily take Arsenals 'failure' over the 16 or so years AW has been in charge?
-
He really never would be happy as a fan. I'd love to know what he'd moan about if he was a Barca fan. FFS Messi only scored twice today, and we only won by 5 goals. Our lead at the top is only 36 points.

My mate (a football journo) was at the presser yesterday. Text me with this gem... Arsene: [to journo] "Why are you looking at me?" Journo: "because it's your press conference" priceless

Was there not something about Beattie saying either he goes or I go? Not sure if I imagined made this up, but seem to recall something along those lines, though he did leave a couple of months later anyway.

Guess I'm not really welcome here, having only been born in '89, I have never witnessed any Liverpool dominance - neither have most of my Liverpool supporting mates (majority from London), not that it ever stops them talking about it. Maybe it's just me, but I never really get the whole hating a team for doing well thing? Clearly in my time as a football fan ('95 onwards is when I can really remember it) Utd have been the dominant English force. I've always quite liked Uniteds teams, who are generally attack minded, exciting to watch, and look to nurture their own players. I know Fergie is a character people love to hate, but I just have nothing but respect for Fergie. For me, his is the best manager ever. Simply unparalleled. -

Worth noting the last(/only) two British managers to win the Premier League were Scottish. -

That's what I thought too. But that's what one of resident oracles told us. -

Super useful insights that I for one would never have managed to figure out, for example: If we replace our players with better players, we will be a better team. -
We've got this guy, who is probably my fave 'celeb' Saints, granted he isn't exactly A-list, puts on a great festival though

Not that I'm complaining, but is this the way all new pages of this thread are going to be started? If not, I really think they should be.

I cannot decide whether I like EE or if they annoy the hell out of me. Probably somewhere between the two.
