  1. The problem is where to draw the boundaries. Do you try to ensure that there is a balance between the numbers of 'traditional' Labour and Conservative wards, or produce a proportion of 'safe' seats, if so how many ? What happens if in a particular area somebody builds 4000 new homes and the demographic changes; you would have to continually redraw the boundaries to accommodate small changes in the numbers on the electoral roll.
  2. I am thinking that a 'yes' is necessary, not because I want AV - I think we should go for STV, but because a NO vote now will shut the door on any future consideration of a proportional system. If there is a YES result then I think that it is the first step to a truly proportional system, where the parties actually have to learn to work together in a professional manner for the benefit of the country. If we get a NO then we are stuck with a system where less than 30% of the electorate will continue to produce unstoppable majorities and the Red-Blue pendulum will keep swinging.

  10. No it wouldn't alter it, it would 'fix' it. Up to the point of observation, all possible outcomes exist.

  12. So, still a daily diet of hate & lies then ?
  13. We seem to be going WAAAAY off topic : http://tabloid-watch.blogspot.com/2010/02/worlds-greatest-newspaper-wont-win.html "the Express continues to call itself the 'World's Greatest Newspaper' on its masthead every day. Its circulation is collapsing, it serves up a daily diet of hate and lies and the complete lack of any nominations in these awards means it becomes increasingly hard to understand how they are allowed to make this obviously bogus claim."
  14. Funniest thing on here in a long time. You - Christian ? Ha !
  15. Of 54 'suspects' identified by the Awaken Project in Blackpool between September 2010 and February 2011, 1 was Pakistani, 1 was 'Caribbean', 2 were Turkish, and the remaining 50 have been described as 'White'.

  17. One atom says to another "I think I just lost an electron". The second one asks "Are you sure ?". "I'm positive".
  18. Just browsing YouTube and have come across Eluveitie - a touch of Death Metal with bagpipes, flute, fiddle, and hurdy gurdy. Weird, but strangely addictive.
  19. Mandatory full retest for anybody who loses their licence, and jail time for driving whilst disqualified. In my view, those most likely to cause / have an accident are those motorcyclists who fail to understand that the rules of the road, ( speed limits, solid white lines in the centre of blind bends, not overtaking in the face on oncoming traffic, etc ), apply to them as much as to car drivers. I wouldn't have thought many of them are over 60.
  20. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-13001777 'Mr Lund said: "We've always been completely open and honest about the fact we'd identified a problem. The initial research, referred to in The Times, was carried out in 2003. It was identified that children were potentially at risk from sexual exploitation, which led to Blackpool Council and Lancashire Constabulary pledging to tackle the problem head on by establishing the Awaken Project. Due to the success of the project, children in Blackpool are now safer than they've ever been. The project has received national acclaim and is now a model which other authorities have adopted.'
  21. For what it's worth, Mick Gradwell's involvement in this particular area of investigation ceased just after the 2003 report was produced. His last case in Lancashire, of any sort, was in 2008 before he went to head up the Haut de la Garenne enquiry in Jersey, after which he retired.
