  1. He hasn't cost us points. We'll see how today's game turns out and you could argue that Stoke (in the first minute and entirely thanks to the wind) was a mistake as well but he's won us far more points with his saves.
  2. Wrong! Enough trolling That was beyond belief but he's a fantastic goalkeeper.
  3. The difference in composure between now and this game last season is unbelievable. Arsenal are pressing in the exact same way but we're handling it with no problems at all.
  4. Remember that this is a game we were likely to lose with Lovren - believe it or not. If we lose it without him, don't pin it on Hooiveld. Unless he scores an oggie from the Arsenal box
  5. It could make us significantly weaker. Lovren's biggest contribution has been as the leader of an exceptionally well drilled and dedicated unit. Hooiveld may lack the individual ability but if the team retains its confidence and organisation we may not see too big a drop.
  6. Hang on, are we not nailed on winners anymore?
  7. Mark Lawrenson was a top class international footballer (and Phil McNulty, besides getting everything in that article pretty much spot on, is an incredibly hard working and talented reporter)
  8. Like I say, I don't know. I'm just saying good CMs don't always grab your attention. My point with Morgan is nobody did see it for quite a while, besides Southampton fans. Even we struggled to begin with!
  9. I mean it's not his job to stand out. There are countless central midfielders who go unappreciated (including, until quite recently, own own Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin) because they don't score/set up goals or play difficult passes. It takes loads of media plaudits for the average fan to decide a CM's worth his salt. I don't have much of an opinion on Cleverley myself. Nothing, that's what I mean. A good CM keeps everything ticking over.
  10. If Lallana plays well tomorrow and for the rest of the season he'll be on the plane. I certainly don't think Oxlade-Chamberlain would stroll back into the team.
  11. To be fair that's not really his job. Central midfielders dream of being as quiet as Michael Carrick
  12. Lallana on immediate form, Henderson by a mile on form over the last year or so.
  13. There are huge differences in the way the game's played at each level and, let's be honest, most of what our XI are doing at the moment is down to the way the manager is drilling and organising them.
  14. Who knows? There are plenty of other candidates at the moment (Phil Jones being the most obvious) and more will emerge in the next 6 or 7 years.
  15. Impossible to compare international and club football, as always.
  16. If anyone's got a valid ST number for the presale but isn't planning on going do let me know, I'd love to make it to this one
  17. Having your own team in the spotlight only highlights how thinly spread football content is across tens of thousands of platforms. It's nice to have your team seriously discussed and analysed (e.g. MNF) but I think I'd rather be ignored than read 'you've got your Walcotts, your Bales' ever again.
  18. I'm not that fussed, but it would be nice to get a bit of personality from the manager. It's sometimes frustrating to see him getting animated, smiling etc and his words coming out as 'basically, yes, we're happy with the team.'
  19. Christ, you lot are really setting yourselves up for a fall. I feel like I ought to remind people that Arsenal are one of the two teams to outperform us this season. Wanyama needs to be bang on his game for this. It'll be massively important he sees the movement of Giroud and Ramsey in and out of the midfield line and the team can keep the right number of men in each area to stifle that threat. Being able to keep the ball should help too.
  20. If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I've been in one of these queues) it's allocated in the order everyone arrives, but it doesn't change. You just get thrown on at some point
  21. Injuries to whom? Boruc, yes; Shaw, yes; 3 or 4 other first teamers, yes. We do have cover in most positions. You may have noticed we have a very good fitness and injury record. These things are only partially down to luck and we seem to treat problems quite well. I can only remember one long-term absentee from the first team last year (Lallana)
  22. Yeah. Tumblr in particular, though it's on a smaller scale. It was near enough impossible to find Saints content on there last season but now there's plenty.
  23. I think the misogynists on here are getting by without.
  24. We're still debating whether Arsenal and Liverpool are title contenders. They're above us at the moment and have deeper squads!
  25. Are we still going on about pace? I think Lallana, Rodriguez, Clyne and Shaw have proved we've got enough of that.
