They used to do that, but it caused issues when sponsors/kit manufacturers changed. You could put a new sponsor on an old shirt, but the sponsors don't like that.
-
They announced at least one of them when they did the retained list. McCarthy I think. Presumably Stephens already had a contract that went past this summer.
-
Remember this is voted for by their fellow professionals though. That includes people down in league 2 who might not even watch much premier league football. Plus if they support a team, it's far more likely to be Liverpool than City so there may be some bias there. To add to that, they vote quite early in the season (so before Salah's form dropped off). Basically it's just a team of famous players that people have heard of.

Athletic article re: Sports betting companies inc Saints
Scummer replied to manji's topic in The Saints
Crystal Palace have announced their new sponsor today, moving away from gambling to Cinch. Car sales companies are taking over the sponsorship world. Won't be long until be change sponsor I wouldn't have thought. Gambling/ crypto is on the way out. -
Calvin Bassey looks a useful player. Him and Salisu might make a good partnership.
-
To be fair Allison nearly did that last night, and he's not a bad player
-
Don't know, just feels odd. The striker isn't allowed a second touch. The difference to the clip you posted is the goalkeeper hadn't touched the ball in that example.
-
Is Allison allowed to catch that ball that's spinning back towards the goal after Mounts penalty?
-
If Bednarek (and it would definitely be Bednarek) made the mistake Mings did, he'd be absolutely slaughtered on here for it. It was an awful goal defensively from Villa. Having said that, watching the replay I think a free kick should have been given for the Kung Foo challenge by Jota. Can't overturn a Liverpool goal though....
-
They haven't finished the rebuild yet. Not sure what they have left to do in those areas.
-
Maybe The Athletic have heard that we are getting relegated. They don't cover teams in the Championship unless they are massive.
-
That should have been the formation last night. We didn't need 3 central defenders, and Burnley were just playing through our midfield too easily.
-
Why snobbery? I have nothing against him at all, in fact I feel bad even mentioning it as it's someone's career. But as a customer, the standard has dropped dramatically since Carl moved on. The articles are largely vague, wishy-washy conjecture. Take today's article about a Chelsea takeover and how it might affect Saints. It's just page-filler, and tells us absolutely nothing.
-
All the articles I've read have been better than those in the athletic (relating to saints) since Carl moved. Problem is there's plenty of other stuff in the athletic that I read/listen to. Plus I think I'm tied down for another 9 months or so. How much does this cost anyway, after the first month?
-
Was the penalty actually given for a push or a trip? If it was a push, it was far slighter than the one on Long. If it was a trip, I'm not convinced that Jesus didn't clip the back of his own calf.
-
I actually think there's a decent shout for calling it an own goal. The shot from Sancho is going straight at Forster, it's the touch off KWP that takes it away from him and into the net.
-
I haven't worked the numbers through, but my initial thought is that if Newcastle were to go out and immediately spend the majority of that £500m-£800m talked about they'd be absolutely screwed in future years as those outgoings roll over. It's not sustainable at all without massively increasing their revenue. That's the whole point of these rules. Not saying they won't try to get around it, but they can't just keep spending more and more money. That's the problem Everton have run into, they can't spend any more substantial sums without falling foul of the rules.
-
Interesting that he only joined Cheltenham in the summer, I assumed he'd been there for a few years in their youth setup. Quite a rapid progression, best not to heap too much pressure on him.
-
Someone I know who played against him in B team / youth football when he was at Chelsea. My friend was very surprised when he heard he was signing for us. That's not too say he won't make it, but I always felt it was a way to bulk our squad out at low cost/risk.
-
Maybe he's not that good? I did raise this as a possibility at the time he signed, based on something I was told by a player.
-
I thought he may be out of range for us, but the news today is that Brentford are trying to sign him. He'd potentially be a great option for Saints, in a position we have been struggling a bit with
-
Has now quit Twitter after one of our fans tricked him. Great work lad....
-
They may well do, but they only had a home attendance of 9k on Saturday and 2.5k of that was Derby fans.
-
Surely anyone who drives past the stadium will be able to see if they've been done or not. They were supposed to be up by now.
