    Nick Holmes

A few times in the past people have mentioned that Nick Holmes could come in as manager. As much as the romantic in me would like to see it, I've always felt that it would be too big a jump to go from the Conference to the Championship. However, with Nigel Clough looking set to join Derby, it will be interesting to see how he gets on. I appreciate Burton are doing better than Salisbury, but without knowing the individual circumstances of each club I don't know whether that is to be expected. Any fans of non league football able to give an informed view?
  3. We haven't got any money to bring players in, so it doesn't really matter to be honest. If we get anyone they'll most likely be loans, and I'm pretty sure there's a loan system after the transfer window closes.
  4. FA cup holders only got 14,000 for their first game in defence of the trophy.
  5. He doesn't actually take over til Monday though.
  6. Lallana and Surman have already got it.
  7. On that issue, of course they did. Whether they agreed with the way he went about proving his point is another matter.
  8. A changing room? Yeah I've seen those videos as well.
  9. The closer we get to the game, the more happy I am that I decided not to bother getting a ticket.
  10. Yes.
  11. Problem is, so far this season you could have said similar things about Thompson, Gobern, Robertson, Pekhart, Holmes, Smith etc etc. They come in, play a good game or two, then get ditched.
  12. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was a good idea. I think the whole idea of trying to prop up the share price is stupid, especially for an illiquid stock like SLH where there are few shareholders.
  13. The market.
  14. Dyer was arrested in March, a long time before he signed his new contract.
  15. That £1.4m was club money spent on buying back shares, not money Rupert earnt.
  16. I wouldn't resign if I was him. He'll never get another job as big as this one, no matter how crappy it is at the minute. I'd be in no hurry to go back to managing in front of 300 fans in Holland.
  17. We aren't playing tomorrow. Silly Corp.
  18. Even if it was only a couple of grand a week, that's probably 150k-200k per year once employment costs are taken into account.
  19. Yep, and we were called stupid for pointing out that it seemed a little odd......
  20. I think we drew ourselves into a bit of a corner with Dyer. We never seemed all that keen to keep him, but at the same time we didn't want to lose him for nothing. So we offered him a contract in the hope that we'd get some tribunal cash when he went elsewhere. But he couldn't find another club so ended up signing for us, and we are now stuck with a player who probably doesn't want to be here and the feeling appears to be mutual. I can see us letting him go for free in the summer, and this little gamble could have cost us several hundred thousand.
  21. I'm sure they do, but it was never their money they were planning on putting in was it? Hence all the comments of 'we'll have the cash any day now'. Face facts, the credit crunch/recession has put paid to any potential takeover. We are screwed, the only consolation is that other clubs are likely to be in the same boat as us.
  22. I'd have thought he mas more of a snooker or darts man.
  23. Yeah, except Michael Owen isn't a left midfielder so christ knows how Pahars got that nickname.
  24. Maybe a mod could change the thread title.
  25. They clearly read this site to get their ideas for stories. Think of it as a compliment.
