Too soon to properly judge so far but one would assume the Portuguese top division is not going to be as testing as the premier league which clyne dealt with extremely well going forwards and defensively for 3 seasons. I wouldn't expect him to be as good as Clyne at defending when he left straight away but he will hopefully improve

I'm reserving judgement till way on in the season until saying he's better than Forster let alone 'miles better' but he's at that sort of age where big name goal keepers start to become awesome so he could well be an upgrade.

Would love it if we got him, can play many positions as well. Would be the ultimate utility player signing. Great technical and passing ability, works hard and can play all over the midfield.

Yeah but with many of those off the bench over a 3 year period it isn't enough game time and now he's nearly 21 he's going to need more. To presuppose playing 40-46 full games in an ever improving championship would be regressive to his development compared to 20-25 PL games (only 10 of which are probable to be full games) is naive until being provided with evidence it wouldn't help his development.

Too be fair maybe he needs to play a full season week in week out on loan in the championship as he won't get that much game time here, might do his development some good. Can't see it happening though.

We should buy Alex Song. A holding pair of Alex Song and Wanyama would be superb! Get him + VVD and we're sorted.

He just hasn't peaked yet and won't till he's about 24 most likely Strikers and wingers generally peak earlier than other positions, but CMs, CBs and especially GKs generally peak at a higher age in this game called football.

From his Wiki page. "Goretzka produces powerful shots from outside the penalty area, a trait similar to that of Paul Scholes." Seems to tick all the boxes, we have lacked a CM that can score goals and shoot from distance. Would proabably be a major coup if we signed him.
