Well I guess you would know about the Brit mind as you were born here. It is quite easy really. Most British people find the prospect of police officers murdering unarmed civilians who pose no threat abhorrent. Most British people find the idea of people having loaded guns in their houses, cars, offices, schools (in fact anywhere) totally unnecessary and dangerous. Put these guns in the hands of the unhinged or children and you have the recipe for disaster - as happens all too frequently in the Land of the Free to blow someone's head off.

What would go in one ear and out of the other is a bullet fired by one of your nice friendly police officers.

WTF? If it wasn't so easy to buy guns and ammunition there would be no need to worry about leaving the safety on or off. What is a loaded gun doing lying around anyway? Isnt this the whole point? Guns are very, very dangerous. They are responsible for hundreds of deaths a year, accidental or otherwise. That is why it is not a very good idea to let people have them outside of the armed forces.
