  1. 2-1 down with a minute to play against a team that ripped us part earlier in the season and who are doing well right now....hardly a disaster unless you believe that we are going to win every single game we play. Remind me again? How many games have we lost in 2010 so far??? I seem to remember you singing the praises of a manager who only managed 3 wins in 13? How do you square that arguement?
  2. Where exactly do you get the "lack of ambition from"? Just another one of your delusions. As for inconsistancy. Most clubs suffer from it, yes even those that have spent millions.
  3. Feel free to point out where the ref has been blamed for the result Alpine.
  4. I agree with you. Sadly there are a number of "utter zoomers" on here who seem to think that the way forward is to sack a manager every 6 months if they don't win every game! Pardew is doing a good job and should be given time to complete that job. Yet every time we get a poor result (and every team gets poor results) then his job is up for grabs. It is beyond stupid.
  5. The only way to "cure" a hangover is not to drink too much Im afraid!
  6. Blimey, if all you have to do to win people over is to give them a coffee whilst they queue than Max Clifford would have been out of business years ago! The problem Mr Cortese has right now is of his own making. Yep the media have drummed it up but the facts are simple. He did throw his toys out of the pram over the Echo story and he has not been 100% supportive of Pardew in public no matter what has been said behind closed doors. He could have made both things go away by holding an olive branch out to the Echo and by stating publically that he is pleased with Pardew's work. As far as I can see hehas done neither. I don't begrudge him his arrogance- goodness knows we have had enough arrogant CEOs over the past few years - but I do hope that he learns about positive PR and quickly. Pardew will not be short of job offers and if he doesn't feel he has the confidence of his boss I can see him leaving for a club where he will feel supported. LIke others I did feel that his demour was a little odd at Wembley. It was almost like he was saying take a look around you and see what I have delivered this season. THis far outweighs some poor results against Brighton and Tranmere doesn't it? All conjecture of course but I don't think I am alone in thinking that Cortese expects too much too soon and might make the mistake of ditching a decent manager because (like many posters here) he thinks the grass is greener someone else. There is an old saying abourt learning to walk before you can run. It is all vey well to dream of being a force in the Prem and moving to a bigger ground, but we have to get out of two divisions first and that will take time and patience.
  7. We could have ended up with Pinnacle!!!
  8. Surely the fact that it has spread over 9 pages shows that it is an issue. Whether he was booed or not, the reaction here shows that plenty of people can see reasons for a booing. Pardew has the support of a large section of the fan base and has done well for us this season. Cortese has hardly been fulsome in his praise. In fact if anything he has not been very supportive and have been a bit hyper critical. He has shown that he thinks that splashing a few bob should guarantee success, and it doesn't. There is a lot of hard work to be done on the training ground and more players need to come in. We are far from the finished article for an automatic promotion place next season which is no fault of Pardews. These things take time unless you come down and play with pretty much the team you had the previous season. Pardew, like Burley, has to build from scratch and that is not an exact science, no matter what those posters here with no patience would have us believe. Give him time, that goes for Cortese as well as some of the impatient fans.
  9. A third tier level attempt at Fergie mind games?
  10. Durham and his other half are usually given conflicting sides of the argument to try and genrate phone calls. It is very rare that they will agree with each other and what would be the point? They need to get the listerners involved and they do that by being "contraversial". Having said that, Durham could start and arguement in a morgue.
  11. This is what makes the rules of the game so stupid. No consistancy. Why is is ok to send someone off for this in the 50th minute of a league game but not in the first few minutes of a Final? If Vidic had gone the other week it would have been a different game. Surley cheating is cheating, whenever and whereevr it happens? I agree about the "spectacle" etc...but really, is that enough reason to let cheats off?
  12. Yes cheating does matter. If you are going to win, win fair and square. Otherwise what is the point? Maradonna and Henry have both marred great careers with cheating and that is what many will remember them for rather than the skills and excitment they brought to the game. I am glad he wasn't sent off as that would have taken some of the gloss off of the win, but he should have gone for what he did.
  13. God knows there have been enough threads about other things just as "important". For example, even though George Burley left a long time ago and we hve had 4 managers since then you can bet your bottom dollar that someone on here will drag him up again for some spurious reason. Cortese is still relatively new here and people aren't sure what to make of him. He hasn't had the best start what with his childish spat with the Echo and his unfortnate lack of nous when dealing with the press. Hopefully he will learn from these mistakes. The last thing we need is anothre arrogant "non-footballing" CEO with no idea about the media
  14. No doubt DD. Now that Cortese has had a taste of sucess/the limelight perhaps he fancies the job himself? It would be good to have someone take the pressue off of Pardew though. He has a tough job if he is still her next season. He is expected to take us up and if he doesn't he will get the same scorn that some still like to heap on Burley. It doesn't help when the CEO joins in!
  15. I agree, we were strong at the back and up front but weak in the middle. A better side than Carlisle would have exploited that more.
  16. What evidence do you have Weston? And what experience does Cortese have in this department exactly? Isn't this what Lowe was pilioried for? Running a football club with no knowledge of football? Strikes me that Cortese has a lot to learn in this department - backing his manager publically being top of the list. After the last year most of us would have been delighted at a Wembley win and a decent showing in the league. So what has Pardew done to deserve such scant respect exactly???
  17. Infracation points maybe?
  18. All Cortese has to do is come out and say somehting supportive of Pardew and it will be all over. He made a rod for his own back from his earlier comments and is now finding out that you have to watch what you say in this country or the media will be all over you like a rash. Surely, now we have actually won something, he can find a few words of support???
  19. Agreed, it was a tremdous team performance but I would give the MotM award to Lambert as he was outstanding all round. Harding too played very well. He looks awkward playing on the right side and is very one footed, but he was excellent too.
  20. So its okay to have a pop at Northerners and Scots but not at you Krauts????
  21. I have only just seen the match this morning which is a bit bizare but did cheer up a wet Monday in Kent. Many congratulations to Alan Pardew and the team who did what they had to do. It was good to see us put the match away with some key players out. As AP inferred, it is not the FA Cup but we have still won a trophy at Wembley and this gives us something to solid to build on. Hopefully Mr Coreste now will support his manager and let him get on with his job. Even MLT was bigging him up saying that he is the best manager in our division. Whether he is or insn't he is still doing a good job and deserves the support of the fanbase and the senior management. If we don't make it this season we shall be a force next season. I just hope he stays!
  22. How does it help losing BA more money by striking though? They also need to become competitive and cannot afford the huge daily running costs. Many of us here have seen there companies makes big cuts. We have 10 staff leaving next week that we can ill afford to lose. BA aren't playing games and the staff will be worse off when the dust settles.
  23. Is this thread for real? After the last few years of losing and relegation finally something goes right and this is how it is perceived, as a distraction and thank goodness it will be over soon? You couldn't make it up. Lets just hope we get thumped eh to put some icing on the cake!
  24. I am trying to make it easy for Alpine to get his head around it Dune. But it is that simple isn't it? For all of the column inches in the Mail, or here, we just spout opinions. What do they matter? What will be will be.
