I have great memories of that day. 7 of us met up at the Halo club in Weston at about 12 and played a couple of hands of poker and killer rummy (we had regular card schools then). Then a large carry out from the local off licence to one of the groups flat to watch the match. Pyramid of beer cans got bigger as the day went on. When Bobby Stokes scored one of us (not me) was in the bathroom having a pee. We all piled in with some of us falling into the bath. You had to be there! Then at the end of the match we staggered back to the Halo club to carry on celebrating but by 9pm we just ran out of steam!! Great day saddened now by the fact that out of those 7 one died of a heart attack at 39, one a brain haemorrhage at 41, one from cancer in early 50’s and my young brother was killed at age 41. Lost touch with one of them but regularly see the other. Later in the summer a group of us from work got hold of a video tape of the match so went up to one of the houses in Chandlers Ford all dressed up in Saints gear. Watched the first half then all down the pub for a few beers before returning for the second half. You should have seen the looks on the locals faces. On the day after the final I was supposed to be at a christening but stayed home in my flat above the shops in Bitterne Road (opposite the Station Hotel) and could almost touch the team as they passed in the open top bus.

Might not be the earlist on here but no doubt one of the best... 2nd September 1967 at Stamford Bridge 6-2 to Saints. Remember walking from the ground with my mate. We both had long Saints scarfs and he said we should hide them so not on show. Could not hide our smiles though.

Adams football of late is doing the talking. Forget the stories. I know for a fact that Surman did not go out drinking much and certainly not when a game was due within a few days.

By the way, Captain Eric Moody in the above post, is a personal friend of mine & poster Derry. He is a Saints Supporter and has attended with me this season and last. He reads this site as well

'Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get it under control. I trust you are not in too much distress.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-431802/The-story-BA-flight-009-words-passenger-dreads-.html

Quote from Giles White: “When we signed Mendis we postponed the second year of Imran’s contract to 2011. At the time there were visa issues and we weren’t sure that he was going to be able to come back. Things have changed now, but the other issue was that if he got picked for South Africa he wouldn’t be here until half way through the season which wouldn’t really have suited us. So we agreed with Immi that we would be pro-active in trying to sign Mendis. In an ideal world we wouldn’t want him playing for another County, but we wish him well at Warwickshire and he’ll be back here for 2011.”

Saturday on Sky I believe

Any one else notice that as the game went on in the rain the ball in the air became more unpredictable. It suddenly dipped more than in the dry and some of the defenders on both sides found it difficult to judge. Might account for some of Thomas's strange play at times

You have to see him every week to see what a good player he is. His distribution is above League 1 standard. He is an important part of our midfield. A provider of the telling pass wide that sets up attacking moves.
-
Sorry meant Mellis not Harding. You are correct he did score.
-
13 outfield players used tonight against Charlton and 10 of them have scored for us this season. Only Harding, James & Schneiderlin have not scored. Pretty impressive stuff Edit - Meant Mellis not Harding

Winning games when we don't perform brilliantly
Weston Saint replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Shame on you Thanks to DD getting extra tickets (I thought I was going to be away) I was able to go. Enjoyed the game. Enjoyed another win. Enjoyed winning in front of the Sky cameras. Enjoyed our front play, the way our midfield defended when we did not have the ball but moved forward when we did and a pretty decent display at the back. That is 10 of the players on the pitch today who have scored this season. -
Let's make one thing clear. Barclays did not put us in Administration. They would need to apply to the court for that (Clapham Saint please confirm the court bit) Barclays refused to honour a couple of cheques. Lowe, acting correctly, decided that, because of that, we were no longer a going concern and put us into Voluntary Administration. I understand from someone close to the action on the inside that initially no one insolvency practitioner wants to get involved. It was thought in the market that Southampton Leisure incorporating SFC was incapable of finding funds for a buy out. Lowe, and I assume his legal/financial advisors, finally was able to persuade Begbies Taylor to take it on. I do not know the terms but I suspect they included a high success premium. Here, I am making a big assumption based on sensible thinking - Lowe wanted to continue to advise Begbies Taylor on the football front. Fry stated that Lowe would have to step aside completely if he was to act. As there were no other takers it was that or liquidation and SFC would be no more. The fact Begbies Taylor and particularly Fry succeeding was the reason the award was given.

I noticed that. Not the first time a perfectly reasonable title has been changed without the posters consent. I am getting a little worried about such alterations. What next, altering posts!

Just found out why Pound Tree Road was so named In 1770 an act of Parliament set up a body of men called the Improvement Commissioners with powers to pave and clean the main streets of Southampton They also towed away carts blocking the streets of Southampton. They were chained to a tree known as the pound tree and the owner had to pay a fine to get them back. Bloody clampers even in those days
