The team looked a bit rusty and, as with too many matches, we don't know how to respond to gutsy energetic physical teams who get to the challenges first and stop our passing game. When Antonio came on his positive runs put new life into the attack, a little unlucky not to score too, but the pressure led to Millwall conceding Rickie's late fantastic free kick. In reflection AP should have made a substitute to play for time, but we had five players covering and surrounding Trotter, so someone SHOULD have tackled. Like I said, we have to be first to the ball in matches like this, and not leave it for the other guy. Forte was a towering strength throughout the match, fast and in control. When he's alongside Jaidi we will have a formidable defence. And no wonder fans were singing "Kevin Davis, England's number 1 keeper!"

"We are sorry but all operators are busy. Please try again later" x4

.. so I phoned Saints ticket office who referred me to Customer Services who are busy, so I have to buy another (hopefully if still available) at the Millwall ground, and claim a refund. Anyone else in the same situation?

lol If you sing this and blow bubbles at the same time you could qualify for the 'Men Can Muti-task Award'.... ..and a few others! Have a great match!

Except it's looking increasingly unlikely now that Stock will be here, and since Morgan hasn't been banned it will be him in midfield left, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Gillett back from loan on the bench. Could be interesting.

Great exhibition, but get in early. You can then get the Tate Boat to Tate Modern and leg it through Clink Street (lol) and the Borough Market pubs to London Bridge for South Bermondsey and the police escort to and from the ground. The perfect day!

Sounds more like headless chicken rumours. They have legs too, lol.

I taught in Bermondsey near the ground years ago and the kids there were just great - terrific chirpy humour and character. But times have changed and arrests more recently I've noticed have included a good proportion of professional city types, lol. They don't like losing! I wonder who has my number?

I reckon we are in a new phase of team rebuilding with hopefully three new guys in the team, so I am going to go for a 2-2 draw. I don't know whether I can make it yet with so much to do, but I hope I will be there to see what will probably be an end to end bruising game, with Millwall trying to unsettle us. They are tough - and ambitious too! Just hope we have a chance to play our best footie (in which case we'll run them out of the park) - and avoid injuries (players too). I'm looking to the future!

Any idea how many players have gone, like all 40 in the squad?
-
Pre Fonte I would say that we were most likely to end up ninth given our weakness in giving away soft goals, and that we have to make up ten points in 22 games on the top eight. But I expect us to be more consistent at the back now, and if any from Swindon, Dons and Millwall slip up, we have a chance of making the play-offs. We are where we are because we have not yet succeeded in beating the top teams. So Millwall away and Huddersfield at home are going to be very important. In fact matches against anyone above is are going to be six-pointers from now on.

Did you mean this bit? "Hamilton Academical offered £100,000 for Arfield in August 2009, but this was rejected by Falkirk, who commented that they "thought they had missed out a zero in the figure they offered"."

I do like the positive 'we will' comments that are appearing regularly on this forum nowadays. Such a difference from recent years. Fans DO make a difference.

I like this toast from a Palace fan: "Every time I take a glass of port going forward instead of saying cheers I will lift my Glass and shout Jose!"

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1926623,00.html I hope not. Nor Rickie. Not until the January transfer window is over. Then they both deserve the award. Even so I hope not until promotion is assured when the dreaded curse cannot affect us.

I can't see what Saints can gain by adding a striker who has only scored four league goals this season. Whoever joins us upfront needs to be significantly more prolific in the remaining games. Who would make way for him? He's not a wide player is he? Adam, Connolly, and Waigo have scored more this season, and Hammond has also scored three league and one cup goal. No way, imo.

The makings of a decent team there. Re Southampton B teams, I'm sure at one time Saints used to field one in the local leagues. Correct me someone if I'm wrong. With 39 players on the books and very few Reserve matches these days, we should be keeping them active (lol)

Why Markus Liebherr should buy Portsmouth Football Club
eelpie replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Why on earth would he want to pay £20-£25 mil for a club with no assets, a half empty ground of hooligans and debts of over £70 million, when he spent only £15 mill to buy SFC with large new stadium, training grounds etc and debts of only £15-20 mill? Anyway how can anyone buy Poopey when no-one, even the owners, knows who owns what? -
In the old days he would have progressed from Southampton Schools into the full team like Paine and Sydenham did. SFC grew because the quality of its home bred players made the difference. I can't but help feel sad the way that the modern game has gone post-Bosnan -and ever since Sky and modern agents corrupted the game with it's billions. When the bubble bursts will it return to something like the old days, I wonder? Of course it won't, but wouldn't it be great if we could develop a successful team based on regional talent. Vokes and Stocky for starters to join Lallana; but who else born within say 40 miles of Southampton CDAJFU? Perhaps a few from extinct Poorpey's academy? (Nothing wrong with a little romanticising. At least we can do that)

I've heard some footballers have weird hobbies, but never grave digging. Is this a first?

Yep and REMEMBER BRIGHTON Don't give them the initiative from the start fellers! COYR!
-
lol, I thought it was Saints fan bladdered! I'm sure the alto ego was only referring to the top (sideways) bit! Happy New Year!

I remember that. I hate that 'Easy' chant, and also hate the 'We're playing just like Brazil'. Invariably they inspire the opposition to our immediate cost. We should only sing them when WE are being hammered. Will do us more good!. lol
