Pretty sad indictment of the way our seasons gone that we’re basically crossing our fingers that Leeds can do us a favour by beating lowly Fulham.
-
Would absolutely love to see us win the cup even if it meant going down. We’d come back again one day I’m sure. Realistically there’s only 2 competitions we have a chance of winning each season, and they should always be the priority for a club our size IMO. Who cares what the next rounds hold - in a one off match between 2 teams anything can happen. i was born in 85, went to my first game in 94, was there in 03 and 17, and I really hope that by the day I die I’ve seen my team lift a meaningful trophy, just to experience that emotion.

Nigel’s Charlton vs the Skates in the play offs?
-
Used to quite like Danny Cowley, that’s a shame. Skate bastard 🤣
-
It’s pretty clear Ralph isn’t so good when he hasn’t got a Danny Ings banging in over 20 goals a season to bail him out. Losing to Bournemouth didn’t seem fathomable to me a few weeks ago, but now I genuinely fear it might happen, and if it does then Ralph’s position is simply untenable.
-
Howe wasted a fortune on players at Bournemouth and still saw them relegated - he won’t come here knowing there’s no money to spend.
-
Said in the build up that Brighton couldn’t wish to face a better side to end their unfair run of results when they’d been playing well and we didn’t disappoint. Thanks for some good times Ralph but it’s time to go.
-
Can’t defend him any more, times up. What was the point of all those changes at City to perform like that today? Once again undone by a simple opposition change at HT. Blame the players all you want but this guy is coaching them. I’m done, give someone else the summer to work the team and bring their own players in.
-
Dry your eyes. Players make mistakes and he should have done better.
-
Was screaming that at the telly too, how’s the lino not spotted that.
-
Chris Wilder sacked by Sheffield United yesterday and I’ve only just seen the news. Does he count as another manager that losing to Saints have got them sacked? There’s quite a list now I think?
-
Brighton have had some awful luck in front of goal recently and have definitely come away with results they deserved better from. Luckily for them though we always seem to be the perfect opponent when you’re trying to end a barren run!

It was more indicative of how far we’ve fallen over the past year to be fair not so much our entire history. With our project restart form and then reaching the summit of the league earlier this season there was a definite feeling around the club like we’d turned a corner, that we might be able to push for a European place or at least a top ten finish. Fast forward a couple of months and there’s an air of apathy, and a general consensus of “yeah we lost 5-2 but at least it wasn’t 8 or 9 eh!”. There was a time when conceding 5 would have been embarrassing enough for a team like us, now it’s just become par for the course and we’re all pretty much numb to it. Take Ralph in his post match interview for example, personally I’d like to see our manager absolutely raging at that performance and scoreline, instead his upbeat demeanour would have you thinking we’d just come away with a point.
-
That scoreline would be a slightly less bitter pill to swallow if it hadn’t largely been our own mistakes that led to it. I know they’re the champions in waiting but as we’ve done so so many times recently we’ve handed them the 3 points on a plate. We never seem to go down fighting and losing by an odd goal, the mentality of this squad is akin to the white flag wavers of France in WWII. Sad that it feels like some kind of hollow victory that it was “only” 5-2. How far we’ve fallen....
-
Think people are being harsh on Fulham and slightly patronising basing their form over the season. The form table for the last 6 games paints a very different picture of them and it really wouldn’t have been bedwetting to say with our recent form coupled with a match against Fulham to go could have easily seen them catch us. Nothing surprises me any more as a Saints fan, I’m concerned that a Brighton side who have been so so unlucky in front of goal recently might finally click next weekend and give us something to worry about.
-
What’s that now his third injury of this season? Can’t see that big money move happening with that kind of record...
-
We all know full well we won’t buy anyone from the relegated sides. We’ll be linked with cheaper lesser known options from across Europe, and the transfers will drag on and on so long that we’ll be convinced they’re outstanding players despite the fact we’d never heard of them until a few weeks prior, before they end up signing for some lesser team and we bring in someone else nobody has heard of on loan instead. #thesouthamptonway #defyingtheoddssince1885
-
Jermaine Wright and George Burley spring to mind 🤣 Redmond needs a break from the team, and he genuinely could do with the help of a sports psychologist as he is trying too hard and its affecting his game. Seems so desperate to impress that it’s just resulting in mistakes.
-
Pretty much. Luckily we had a Danny Ings to get us out of it, although look what’s happened since he stopped scoring....
-
It’s easy to view things negatively when form is so poor, but if we lose this I can really see Gao intervening and forcing Semmens to drop the axe on Ralph, he can’t afford to risk the Premier League cash cow when the club is up for sale. New interim manager comes in, we get a bounce, they get the job full time, next season starts off poorly, we’re staring at relegation, they get sacked......rinse and repeat
-
Yes, Alpine could return too 🤣
-
He makes a fair point tbh. That is embarrassingly bad form and managers have been sacked for far less.
-
Never mind lads, only 1-0 at half time, and if there’s one thing Ralph’s good at its changing the system and turning the game around in the second half 😳
-
Apparently it’s racist to not want Shamima Begum back in the country.
