When will Southampton win the Champions League?
westofshannonsaint replied to Redslo's topic in The Saints
after we qualify -
how would the league work out? Aggregate win = 3pt draw = 1 loss = 0

& the chance to play European Football - with Saints, from League 1 (minus 10 points) KD has been on the same 'journey' as the rest of us, he was here in the darkest of days and stuck by the club, I hope he runs down his contract & then remains with the club in some capacity. LEGEND.

In fairness, at the end of the article, I hope he keeps to his word & I don't remember a player praying to stay at Saints before. Forecast and Ali Dia probably did but I don't recall them saying it publicly.

Adrian Durham just can't stop crying....
westofshannonsaint replied to JxgrSaint's topic in The Saints
Saints (or any team) being criticised for going to OT and defending well. To me that says more about the fall of United. They could be in big trouble if they don't get CL/European football next season. Also, that article is an example of why I don't read the daily mail. I thought (daily mail) warnings were obligatory these days (eg. its only the daily mail but...link...) -
The Guardians, Burnley build up piece...

FIFA Puskas Goal of the Year Award 2014
westofshannonsaint replied to The Cat's topic in General Sports
Stephanie Roche, James Rodriguez & RVP made it through to the final 3. You can watch the goals & vote here, you don't even have to give an e-mail to vote. Sure, you might as well watch the goals and then click on the 'vote' button underneath Stephanie Roche's Video. -
From a Villa forum... There not very hopeful over there...

For those who think can/will finish higher than 8th this season
westofshannonsaint replied to Rasiak-9-'s topic in The Saints
Newcastle finished 5th in 2012. Aston Villa finished 6th in 2008, 2009 & 2010. The top 6 is achievable and is 'the next level'. Who will we replace? Spurs fans don't seem overly confident if you read this thread. Looking at the tables over the last few years Everton/Liverpool miss out quite often. TBH, I'm relieved that were not discussing relegation battles. Three months ago I was very worried. -
Steven Davis signs contact extension until 2018
westofshannonsaint replied to Mikey88's topic in The Saints
As a 'Free Stater' I would also like to add that I am delighted by Davis' contract extension. -
I've seen other posts criticising comparisons to last seasons first 5/6 games as they were against different teams. What stats should we use to compare this seasons performance to last? Should we not make comparisons before May 2015? IMHO Koeman is a step up. We've had a better start to the season and the stats above indicate we have had better results against corresponding teams last year. Along with that we seem to have a better "plan b" this season. I understand that it is too early to make comparisons on the MP/RK transfer activities, but could someone be kind enough to draw a quick draught. I suspect RK would trump MP in the transfers in column.

I was looking at that on the online store. What is the sound quality and max volume like?

ML left us in a much better position than when he arrived, that is all i asked when he bought the club & I ask the same of his daughter. If she feels that she cannot improve the club or is worried about what is said on a football forum she should sell. This had changed. Before SRL the last first eleven player I remember being sold was AOC. What would Puncheon have to say about fighting for a transfer away from Saints?

& around the same time Cortese was asked to leave the building... After his service, no one can begrudge RL his move to his "spiritual home" (show me Harry's tattoo). I'm much happier that he has gone to liverpool rather than a team like west ham. He has probably extended his career by a couple of years because he wont be expected to play 70+ minutes every week. I hope he comes off the bench to score a few Champions League goals for them. Perhaps I'm wrapped up in the Rickie, Roy of the Rovers Story. His goal against Scotland was the first England goal I have ever cheered - it was a strange conflict of interests. But, I think we have not seen the last of SRL @ SMS. He could go on to be a great coach/manager and we might be part of that story. Pochettin-who?... Adkins and Pardew have played more important parts in our history.

I think Clyne's ability to play on both sides has led to him providing cover for both LB and RB slots this season and being used more sparingly (along with Chambers coming through). This is the reason I think he should be considered for a spot in the England squad - even ahead of Shaw. I hope his lack of playing time doesn't suggest to other clubs that he may be available. Surprisingly he seems off the radar at the moment. I hope it stays that way.

Players for me. Keep the team together. How many managers has Lallana & Schneiderlin seen come and go at Saints?

One win against top 10 sides ALL SEASON
westofshannonsaint replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
this forum should have a like button. -
I read this as.... "Organic Growth... No need to panic... Every game is important... Manager/first team coach needs space to work... I like Pochettino" ...I don't understand where you see the negative. I suppose it's the difference between being glass half empty or glass half full. - I'm usually glass half full, unless the glass contains alcohol.

I think this is a good appointment. Its a member of the board, not a member of the coaching team (or whatever SCW was appointed as). He comes with good sporting credentials and someone trusted by KL. I don't think he felt the need to get involved in football to prove anything as he agreed to come to Saints before the Winter Olympics. Here's a couple of articles about his involvement with team Canada's build up to the games. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/olympics/ralph-krueger-hopes-his-work-has-made-team-canada-the-best-prepared-squad-at-olympics/article16772847/ http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/olympics/print/Krueger-is-Canadas-secret-weapon-244640951.html It will be interesting to see what involvement he will have at Saints. This vid highlights how transferable his skills could be... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4hpRNElc4Y

Has anyone said 17th? Christmas day last year... Some odd comments on this thread. I am happy that a Cardiff point today kept us above Utd even if it is just for one more week (...maybe). Last season we would have been concerned about a relegation rival. I'm enjoying the fact that Man City v Spurs has an influence on our league position rather than Stoke V Sunderland. The result today was good for us. City will finish above us, but if we are moving to the next level teams like Spurs are our rival. They play Man Utd next week, if (are my maths are correct?) we don't lose by 3 or more against Chelsea - a draw would keep both teams below us. Either way, I'll be more interested in this result than I would have been in the same fixture last season. Why are spurs not a rival?
