We ARE League 1, you know...

I know all the hysteria over the takeover being completed is good (bl00dy brilliant) news, and the hype over new managers / players etc is exciting, but we do have to remember that we are a League 1 team now, and any speculation linking us to managers / players is simply that - speculation - probably started by Saints fans in the first place!

I think we all need to take a bit of a reality check now and again.

Yes, we were once a club in the big league but we're not now....yet.

What's the saying?? From little acorns....

We need ambition, of course, but realistic ones. And i think from reading ML's comments, that he is realistic enough to know just this, but are we as fans?

We all want to see us promoted 3 seasons running and be back amongst the big players, and it may well happen, but it more than likely wont - so please PLEASE dont start jumping up and down when (if) it doesn't all go to plan first time.

2 season's running would be enough last time I checked ;-)

To true......

We must be realistic, and not expect to "Buy our way out" of Div 1.

It takes a lot of time and hard work to get to the Premiership....we will get there BUT we MUST remain united, supportive and must not expect miracles overnight.

COYR !

We are not a typical league one club though. We are the richest club in league one by some distance. We should expect to be promoted at least within three seasons. Once we get to the CCC the owner has said there will be money available to keep us there and strengthen so then we will have a great chance to challenge for premiership status probably over a number of seasons. THAT is the reality so please stop trying to pretend we are some sort of third rate club with no chance of going anywhere. What I have outlined is what will happen eventually.

Why is everyone trying to be 'realistic', by being downbeat?

The new owner is blatantly going to spend **** loads on players and managers and EVERYONE knows it.

Get used to it - we are billiuonaires now and will be spending loads of money left, right and centre. If you dont like it, fuc8 off and support some team with no cash like Stockport.

You need to wise up man - times have changed at Saints and the days of buying players for free or on the cheap are OVER. We are minted now and will be paying inflated prices for top-class international superstars.

If you dont like it, find the door and dont EVER turn back. :smt039

I concur with that hypo - I think it could be quicker out of this league tho. Depends on what manager etc etc

so what are we to do

get a manager for this year that can get us out of this league, then fire him and get one for the championship, and if we get promoted the the premiership we need another one. At this stage the best investment the club can make is in the manager and the coaching team. someone with a clear direction, motivation and purpose to do the job for 10 years and mold the club the way he sees fit. if that means we go all out to get what are 'big names' and get them to buy into the long term of the club then i say lets let our dreams run wild!

that being said i will continue to dream about WGS and steve coppell being announced this week and everyone else should be allowed to as well, weve had enough **** to deal with in the last few years

a tad harsh.

Ive supported Saints for over 20 years, and am as happy as everyone else is that we're ******* loaded and SHOULD walk this, and the CCC leagues. BUT im just concious of the fact that it doesn't always work out like that - look at QPR.

Id be extatic if we won every match 6-0 and walked the league but it may well not happen, and saints fans being saints fans we do get a bit over excited - both on the good and bad sides...

Tbf if the Swiss bloke wants success then he needs to spend money.there is no reason that he can't go out and spend £5mil on players and also a decent manager as IMO that is what it will take to get out of L1.....after all it is a drop in the ocean for him.

IMO we need to go out and do what Pompey did a few years ago,go out and get a few old experienced heads on free transfers and pay them good money to get us out of this league.

It's no good scrimping and hoping,we need to get out of this league asap.....success costs I'm afraid unless of course the swiss bloke is happy for his plaything to bump along the lower leagues for a few years, but that's not going to impress his rich friends is it.

infact

I will be let down/gutted/deflated if we are not promoted by the end of NEXT season..

I'll be disapointed if we don't finish in the play-offs, but realistically the 10 point penalty is going to be tough to overcome. Midtable and play-offs without the penalty would be satisfactory. The season after though i'd expect promotion.

no one does a job at this level for 10 years...more like 2 years and that is reality

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind (I don’t make the rules)

Since you are still here, I will presume you have accepted the new spend, spend, spend, win, win, win regime?

I therefore don’t want to see anymore "lets be realistic" posts from you again (I will be watching)

It's not just about the 10 point penalty though is it. Expectations are that come the first day of the new season we will start winning yet we yet have to see a manager in place, we are in need of many new players, we don't have a captain and It always takes time for the new players to gel with each other. It is going to be difficult for quite a while
