lordswoodsaints Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 If the club contacted me to see why I havnt renewed my 4 season tickets and try and tempt me into buying some? I'm not going to by the way as I can't make any Saturday games but even so it would be worth their time going through the database and contacting everybody who hasn't renewed. For the price of a first class stamp,a piece of A4 paper and an envelope they could end up with another customer.... Just a thought.

Ash Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Completely agree. I went to watch Arsenal a year or two back to look at the stadium, and to this day they still hassle me with ticket and membership offers, and they don't have that many empty seats to worry about. Viking Warrior Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 FFS Is there no end to the endless moaning . We have entered a new and bright era for the club and here we have yet another thread sniping at the club for the most pettiest of reasons. Oh this is a dig at all the negative threads that appear to be ppping up and not specifically at you lordswood Typical of so many in this country expecting to get there arses wiped all the time. Why don't some fans including yourself lordswood and find out if they can accomodate you. Take the initiative mate instead of sniping. Unfortunately I can not now make this saturday but I have got a season ticket. I will not ge to many games but supporting my club is important to me. We will be okay we willhave ups and downs and after all no thanks to the Pinnacle group. Alan pardew has only been in residence a few days. Ponty Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 LWS, it's obviously on your mind to renew a couple but the notion that a begging letter from the club would swing it is a little alien to me. I tend to agree with anyone who thinks that invitations to pay for something you don't necessarily want (else you would've already asked) are, at best, rude and intrusive. It's no better than those invitations to sign up to the Reader's Digest draw. The start of a new football season isn't something a fan tends to forget all about. I wonder how many people will turn up for the Millwall game only to slap their foreheads as they remember that they hadn't bought their season ticket. Edit: Just remembered I have to mass email the userbase of SWF, inviting them to sign up for full membership.

liquidsnake Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 My friend and his family all have season tickets at Crystal Palace, and each year when one has dropped out or they've just not renewed - they get a phone call from the club to ask why. Twice, Simon Jordan himself has personally rung them up, and they've then been offered further discounts on the standard renewal price if they take up their season tickets again. It's worked well for both parties, the family have got cheaper tickets - and the club have sold a few extra tickets!

Viking Warrior Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 I can see where lordwood is comming from and Ii came as as another dig at the club. When I first read it I really thought it was yet another dig at the club and the new owners. ML wasnt another false dawn but the real deal. The club was in dire straights at all levels and it will take some time to turn it around but turn it around Pardew and co will achieve. Back to Lordswood's post You can look at the issue re season tickets in two ways. Do the club need to encourage unrenewed season ticket holders to reconsider. I don't think so, given the significant numbers that have so far taken out season tickets. If we were having trouble sellng them I can see the benefits of writing to season ticket holders who havent renewed. But at this stage it looks like we are going to have better attendances than last year and providing we get rid of the deficit very quickly and cimb the table then I can see a good increase on those buying tickets on the day. Lordwood thanks for the offer of a bag of sweets. My Late mum always told me not to take sweeets from strangers!! Many fans are just glad to have a club to buy a season ticket for this season than to worry about whether they were extended the invitation to purchase one. Get over yourself! Having a team to support this year should bring those out that had an intention to buy (as it would appear to be too with 11000 sales plus). So too have the season ticket deals on offer under the new regime. Notably the family season ticket deals. They have cleverly targeted the next generation by as good as giving them a season ticket for nowt. This is a new dawn. A new beginning. New hope. You can stick your self-importance where the sun does not shine If you read my posts carefully you will see that this has nothing to do with my self importance or renewing my season tickets,I couldn't go even if ML and pardew rolled up outside my house in a gold plated limo, dropped at my feet and gave me 4 for nothing......I was toying with the idea of getting 2 for my older sons but they can't make every game so that's what prompted my dilemma. The reason I started the thread was because in the past I have recieved a fair bit of junk mail and offers from the club whilst I had a season ticket so I would have thought that it would be in the interests of the club to send me something,if only a price list for season tickets. Tbh I'm not too ****ed if they don't as it would be a waste of a stamp but,as you say,a new beginning,a new hope so why not, on the back of that try and attract some 'lost' fans back into the fold. Just a simple, but proven marketing strategy could land the club a few thousand quid and a full stadium......or would you not be happy with this? lordswoodsaints Posted 4 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Why exactly? Do many ST holders "forget" to renew then? It's not for the people who forget to renew (not many I suspect) but for long term season ticket holders who havnt renewed this season or past season ticket holders who havnt been for a while for one reason or another. I know plenty of fans who held a season ticket in the prem days and early CCC days who they could and should target, fans that have gotten out of the habit of going to games. For a small outlay they could net a small fortune for a few years to come.

Amesbury Saint Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 If people want and can afford a ST, they will buy one actually no. I agree that most people do but there will be a number who want one but dont get around to doing it. Good marketing reminds people that they want one, its at a good price, its easy to do and by doing it will give them a "feel good factor". so the OP is right, the club should ring up or make contact to see if they can talk the person into buying. Ash Posted 4 August, 2009 Share Posted 4 August, 2009 Does anyone else on here think it is a bit sad when a seemingly innocuous post descends into to name calling and sniping. Absobloodylutely. Sad and tedious. Not sure some more junk mail would solve it though. The recession and lack of disposable income goes a long way i'd have thought. If people want and can afford a ST, they will buy one Surely you are not writing off all mail out marketing as ineffective? Nobody is suggesting the club hasn't sold enough and debating why, the OP just said they are not making the most of the database they have. As has been pointed out already, many other clubs do it already. They're not doing it because of a excessive amount of paper they need to shift, they are doing it because a focused marketing campaign like this will most likely generate more income. Just because you personally wouldn't be swayed by something like that doesn't mean that every other person on the mailing list would be.
