funkymojo44 Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 Sometimes i think we fans expect a miracle overnight. Mid table for us this season would be a good target. We've only started to halt the slide to oblivion tbf, building a winning team takes a long time.

RedWillie Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 i agree, but lots on here demand instant success (don't we all!) but it just isn't going to happen. We have to lose the losing mentality with fresh faces and build upwards.

That Pardew 'might' not be able to contact a player, agree a fee with the club, agree personal terms, get them down here, pass a medical and to sign a contract before the team leave for Swindon, probably about 30 hours after he starts work again on monday morning? Yes, hence the signings of Harding, Murty, Lambert and Mellis to date. pardew then took today to see what we needed and is looking at other players. He knows we need more and will get more players in before the end of august. I'd rather we signed someone on wednesday morning than before tuesday because they won't know how to play with the team, such as Mellis today. Stop being 'demoralised' by the fact we may not sign someone within 48 hours of the new week, we have a good manager, money and 44 games left of this season - a future. We will buy players in the next 2 weeks so stop crying over the word 'maybe'.
Stepgar Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 I think most people are jut soooooo desperate to get rid of the point deficit as quickly as possible and move on from there so when we lose people may be over reacting . It IS evident .... but are the players that AP wants to replace the SAME ones that WE think are Krap ??? Wotton for a start ... he MUST go I could not understand the logic of his substitutions .... Melis is only 18and had only been with us less than a day .... yet he came on at a Critical time of the match ......... I hope it's not one of "He's Prem, so he MUST play " sort of loan deals AP is supposed to scan this site ... so, if he does .... We need two Good half backs, and a Brick Kraphouse Centre Half ......... Thanks

niceandfriendly Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 Yeah Pardew didn't sound confident at all of signing anyone before Swindon. His words were "I don't really know to be honest" whilst sighing, so those aren't the words of a man who knows a deal/some deals are close. More worrying though is the fact that he said we need "One or two" more players... I hope he wasn't speaking literally. We need five or six!! kpturner Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 I don't know = maybe. (You)Did you do English at school? Just to reiterate the point that you clearly missed. We were expecting a signing before the weekend (not just Mellis) - possibly a midfielder and/or a CB. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that such a signing is almost done and dusted. If this were so, then AP would have answered "maybe" or "possibly". An answer of "I don't know - sigh" is far less positive. So, despite being fully aware of the fact that things will almost definitely happening before the end of the window, I found it a tad demoralising that it sounded unlikely that we would have a new face in time for Swindon (especially as I am going). I reserve the right to be demoralised. I always am after losing...so shuddup, go away and leave me alone

I'm also going to Swindon and if a player can appear for us by then i'd rather they didn't play, because they would have to have signed by 3pm on monday. There is obviously a possibility of signing a player in the coming days, if it happens after tuesday so be it, personally i'd like a new face or two in by saturday. astrasri Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 You know, I've been watching the progress of Tesco's for years - but I hadn't realised that they had branched out into selling footballers. Do people really think that all these players they are demanding are just sitting around waiting for the call from AP? If they are any good they have to be prised away from their current clubs - and that can be done overnight? Get real guys.

egreog Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 Too many dreamers around.........the fact is Saints were close to oblivion a few weeks ago.......... they have started slowly...(so whats new?)...............the new management are aware of the weaknesses within the team and are seeking out players that fit the criteria.....this takes time.........AP has said it will "take time".........so reality ought to click in with people and the first target should be to get out of negative points........this may take until November.......so be it.......but talk of promotion or play offs is dreamworld!! Saint Since '51 Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 I'll tell you one thing he doesn't know. When KD and Bart came out with their new GK coach before the (Huddersfield) game, they spent 5 minutes playing 'football golf' trying to kick the ball closest to the centre spot, penalty spot etc and then another few minutes seeing who could be the first to hit the crossbar. Fair play to KD. Can't fault his performance in the match. But if this is what the new management team call warming up and if that's the attitude to preparation that our captain represents to the team, then no wonder we started second best, were muscled off everything for 90 minutes and finished a poor third behind Huddersfield and the announcer. Rogerfryisalegend Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 I sat and listened to the game today and was gutted we lost, I had convinced myself we would knock off those minus points with ease, which in reality and after some reflection is just not going to happen, but, we have a club, new owners and all that, we all need some patience, me included, It will take time for players to gel, get used to new coaching styles etc. and we will have a few more new faces soon. We as fans can do only one thing right now, and that's to get behind them, make a ton of noise and help to lift them. Keep smiling, even though we lost today as a club we are in a better place than we have been for years.
CB Fry Posted 15 August, 2009 Share Posted 15 August, 2009 I think he said IF we are in Mid Table at Christmas Actually I think he said IF we're mid table by christmas, we're going for the play offs after that (ie loads of teams that are mid table at Christmas make the play offs) - the quote was about going for promotion, not hoping to stay up. Pardew wants success, not poncing about making out fourth from bottom is "all we can expect" like some dipsticks on this forum like to.
