Ashley Grute Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 If Murty is out for a while, who would be your choice at RB, assuming we don't get anyone in? Could you play Thomas, Perry, Wotton or Gillett there instead of James?
RedArmy Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 Perry, with Thomas and Trotman at CB. or Thomas, with Perry and Trotman at CB. Lloyd James nowhere near RB please, he's cost us 2 wins in 4 days.
niceandfriendly Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 Lloyd James nowhere near RB please, he's cost us 2 wins in 4 days. Are you saying he was a fault for todays loss? Nothing to do with the fact that for the first goal Wayne Thomas gave the ball away in a very dangerous area, and for the second goal the ball came from the left hand side of the pitch? Lloyd had a great game today in midfield, was forced to play right back towards the end and did ok. Nothing special, but he did alright. To blame him to losing is crazy IMO and he was not at fault for either of the goals.

SNSUN Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 Thomas played there a bit when we were in the championship, but it's either James or we sign someone new or get a loan in. Shame because Musty was one of the first names on the team sheet.

eurosaint Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 I would not play James at RB mainly because he lacks pace and is slow to turn and recover ! He has done well in midfield IMO as he keeps the play moving and has a good cross on him ! If we don't get anyone in to replace Murty I would opt for Thomas as he has would add a bit of muscle behind James on the right flank !
LatvianTolix Posted 25 August, 2009 Share Posted 25 August, 2009 Thomas or would move Mellis to Rb, who can play there, according to what I have heard. From what I have seen from the stands, James is just useless on the pitch, no tackling whatsoever and terrible marking.James out of starting 11 - FOREVER!!! Sell him or better - release. Worst RB in the history of SFC - in my opinion. Even Ostlund was better. Bring back Ifil - we is good and relatively cheap!!!

Winchester_Saint Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 yeah btu atleast hes a natural rightback and can read a football game Yeah agree with you on that as he would cover at RB effectively but then you've got the problem of lack of depth at CB again - if Perry's going to be employed as the regular RB while Murty's out then that leaves Thomas and Trotman as the CB pairing with Lancashire as cover...and no one seems to think Lancashire is up to standard so suddenly the CB position looks very thin on the ground again! If indeed Murty is out for a long time then another defender, be it a RB or CB, looks pretty essential
Bailey Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 We should look to bring in Volz as a replacement for Murty if he's going to be out for some time. We can't just have James as our only option at RB, especially considering it's not his natural position. So gutted for Murty. He's been first-class for us so far this season and we'll certainly miss him. We're much more balanced as a team when he plays and we're going to miss his experience too. Fingers crossed he's not out for as long as first feared, but it's not looking good.

brightspark Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 NEW SIGNING. Unfortunately we don't have anyone good enough at this football club, so we must buy someone new. Along with another CB, Winger and Striker.

Worst RB in the history of SFC - in my opinion. Even Ostlund was better. Bring back Ifil - we is good and relatively cheap!!! Poppy****. That may be your opinion, but it isn't mine. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but his centre midfield displays (notably last night, versus Larsson, Carsley and Bowyer) have been surprisingly impressive. Incidentally, he never was a RB. Much of his reserve team football was in the centre, he was only "converted" by JP at the beginning of last season, due to a lack of a better option (hence Henderson's use of him in the middle pre-season), and ended up playing there all season, in his first senior season. Give the kid a break.
sandwichsaint Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 Thomas has played there but to no great effect if I remember correctly. Would certainly bring a physical presence but unfortunately he has a foot like a shovel so his distribution would be a major no-no. Perry? No chance, no pace and no ability to get up and down the line. Wotton? Absolutely zip chance of converting that lumbering ox to a RB. Gillett? Would give 100% but has he ever played there and isn't he needed to start (or bench) in midfield? If we don't sign A.N.Other (Ifil would be brill) then I can't see further than James to play RB (maybe till Xmas when presumably we will have a second dip into the transfer window to look to strengthen for our promotion season in 2010-11). PS, can some on here lay off the 'hatred of Lloyd James' stuff, granted he's not the best but he is a young nipper learning his job out of position; last year he really came on and grew in confidence through the season. I've just, yesterday, seen the goal v Brentford and can't believe the sh8t he got on here for it ..... any one of 4 players should have done better and WTF was Thompson doing (watch it again on beeb player)? A back four of James - Perry(Jaidi!) - Trottman - Harding should be plenty capable of playing in this league.

James is not the best right back especially by comparison to Murty but he is a central midfileder by choice who is doing a job for our team, whilst I suspect his future is not as right back IMO he deserves much better than your comments. I thought last night he had a great game in central midfield and I would like to see him get a few more runouts there to see how it goes, on current form I think he is a better option than Schneiderlin. um pahars Posted 26 August, 2009 Share Posted 26 August, 2009 I wouldn't want James there and being honest I wouldn't want Perry or Thomas there either. Given I can't think of anyone else in the squad who I would put there, it means we might have to go out and get someone in. A steady, fairly experienced and solid full back, nothing to set the worl alight, just someone who's played at this level (or above) and is a regular full back. LatvianTolix Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 I made some research on a free transfer RB's and found out, that Carl Hoefkens, Lauren, Volz, Danny Mills, Bruno N'Gotti are still available for nothing. Plus lots of Man U and Pompey graduates. Any good? suggestions?

Greedyfly Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Yep! Here we go again. Make-shift team once more for a season. A multi-billionaire owner and we still get square pegs in round holes. It has cost us several times in the past and I, in my opinion, think it'll cost us our league one place this season too. Hardly hit the ground running have we? oxfordshire_saint Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 I think Volz is capable of playing at a higher level than League One and will probably go elsewhere, but that said, he's still a free agent with the season having kicked off, so you never know. Whatever happens, we need a natural right back, not someone who's been forced into that role like James. Whoever plays there needs the positional sense to do so and the pace to keep up with speedy wingers and/or overlapping opposition fullbacks. H Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 i know...funny reading this thread..dont want James at RB because he lacks pace..I know, how about Perry.. LOL I'd rather have Joey Mills playing on the wrong side ... at least he is a tried and tested full-back who has pace and would get up and down. How far away is he from being fit? Seem to remember something about him playing for the ressies? I don't think Lloyd is the disaster many are making him out to be but after the Brum game I'd rather see him in the centre of midfield. West End Saint Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Volz is a good shout to get in as a replacement if we could get him to come would be a good player in this league. I think people are being a bit harsh on James he was gash early part of last season but towards the end i felt he had found his feet at right back and was the most improved player in the squad last season he seemed to be getting better & better and understanding the position he is not a natural full back and for me he is best wide right great cross for Lamberts first goal but if we dont get anybody in he will provide decent cover at right back and improve as he gets used to the position again
