deadpanmatt Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 ... they often include Waigo as a starter. I also read people saying things like 'I would put Waigo on the wing personally.' Do you people know something I don't? He has played 1 minute of football for Saints, he may well turn out to be rubbish. After tonight's reserve game we will have a better idea, but until he has played a few games I don't see how he can go straight in to anybody's ideal starting 11. Nexstar Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 He would go into my idea starting 11 upfront for saturday as he needs to play. But I agree, can't see how he makes up the 'perfect midfield' on the wing when he has barely tried it as a striker yet.
niceandfriendly Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 I'm not having a go, but I guess it could be that either we currently have no pace in the team which he will provide or that he comes from a quality Serie A team so can't be too bad. I agree about pace, but Ali Dia had pace! I don't really think coming from a Serie A team says much though- if he was good enough for Serie A he wouldn't be at Saints. He may very well turn out to be quality, but I really think we should reserve judgment.

Stu Man Do Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 and djimi traore has a european cup winners medal... :doubt: Laughably at times in the last 2 years he'd have strolled into our first team!! As for Ali Dia had pace? The bloke behind me at that game claimed he'd seen donkeys pulling carts go along faster than him! As for waigo, the fact he is an international and comes from a well respected team helps his credibility. As you say wait and see but theres certainly players in our first team squad he could do a better job than as a winger or a striker!
Rebel Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 because we are desperate for some pace in the team - and most people can see that because we are desperate for a win because there was no one else to play on the right (if Lallana was on the left and Mellis the only option) because we are just getting desperate because its fun to dream about better times and teams! Rasiak-9- Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 He's played in the Serie A, scoring goals against clubs such as Juventus He's got 15 caps for one of the respectable African countries with a decent footballing pedegree. The credentials entail a decent level of ability.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 To be fair the one minute he did play for us I was genuinely impressed, he looked hungry for the ball, got involved, and made some great tackles. I think he will be great for us this season.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 Waigo scored tonight in the reserves. "The Saints got back on level terms two minutes later with Papa Waigo N'Diaye collecting a through ball before firing low under Jesionkowski from just inside the box." http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10341~1797345,00.html
Clifford Nelson Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 Even a mediocre player in Serie A ought to be a sensation for skills in League One. AP clearly borrowed Waigo with something in mind. At the time I tried to read his mind and thought about our lack of a pacy right winger, Now I'm not too sure. He scored tonight in Hungerford, which must have brought his mind back to his childhood in Senegal. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing him producing the goods against Yeovil. Partnering Lambert is my current prediction.
Mase Posted 15 September, 2009 Share Posted 15 September, 2009 Ali Dia came recommended by Ali Dia. Waigo has been recommended to us by Gianluca Nani, who has developed players such as Andrea Pirlo and Luca Toni… It was reported by Pardrew that even Nani said he doubted we could attract Waigo, and we have. So for me personally that is enough for me to get a bit hyped.

SNSUN Posted 16 September, 2009 Share Posted 16 September, 2009 None of the players we have pre-Waigo's signing would make my right wing. As an unknown entity, he still has to be better than what we have.
yorkiesaint Posted 16 September, 2009 Share Posted 16 September, 2009 yes deadpanmatt you are dead right. Presumably he will get a run out in the first team when he's ready. Pardew even intimated when he arrived that he would not immediately be up to first team action because of the differrences in the way football is played in league 1 and italy. It would have been a big risk to throw him on at charlton. can he even speak english well enough to have his job explained to him?
Professor Posted 16 September, 2009 Share Posted 16 September, 2009 On the language issue it will be interesting to know what languages Waigo speaks and if he needs the club to send him on a course in English. According to Wikipedia, although the official language of Senegal is French, most people there speak their own ethnic language of which there are several. Waigo has been in Italy for 6 or 7 years so presumably he is fluent in Italian. Maybe Fabio Capello could give him some lessons....
