Swindon Res 2-3 Saints Res

Just got back from the same, was an interesting watch, here's how I saw it:

Forecast - not good enough, decision making is really shoddy, flapped at crosses, just doesn't inspire confidence in his defence!

Argent - Ran raggen by their lightning quick left winger, Mark Marshall, in the first half. Looked a little more comfortable in the second half when Marshall switched sides.

Tafazoli - was skinned a few times by their right winger, Lloyd Macklin, in the first half. Gives as good as he gets physically but lacked composure and positional sense, although I believe he's a centreback by trade

Lancashire - talks a lot and wins his fair share in the air. Only criticisms I have are regarding the fact that his distribution is poor and also, he always wants to win the ball, sometimes he should just jockey the striker but he's always looking to go through the back of them and gives away some silly free-kicks.

Jaidi - what you'd expect, big aerial presence, cut out a lot of danger and did what was required. Sometimes there was a lack of communication with him and Lancashire going for the same ball.

Melis - looked bright, showed good pace at times and caused them some trouble. Scored a good goal, was taken off in the second half as it looks like he'll be involved on Saturday and rightly so.

Holmes - he had a lot of workrate, always wanted the ball and got stuck in too, but his touch looked rusty. Probably best for him to play a few more ressie games before he gets in the first team, Mills is a better option at the moment.

Pulis - I think some of the stick he gets is undeserved. Doesn't do anything spectacular but had a solid enough game, wouldn't have him in the first team though, looks like he'd be comfortable playing in the Blue Square.

Gillet - had a really good game, very industrious, always getting in amongst people and contributed in an attacking sense too. As far as central midfield goes, I'd have him above Lloyd James in the pecking order.

Paterson - was full of running and workrate, won a few good headers early on and was handful all night for their defence. If he can develop his upperbody strength over the next couple of year, he'll be a good player. I know he ocassionally makes stupid tackles but he needs to get a bit nastier in general.

Papa Waigo - gave them all sorts of problems in the first half but faded a bit in the second, doesn't look fully fit. Took his goal well. Was moved onto the right wing when Jamie White came on.

Subs didn't really make much of an impact.

Pardew and Downes were sitting nearby and seemed to take a keen interest in their winger, Mark Marshall, who could play on both sides, was lightning quick and had stupidly quick feet, really liked to take his man on and get into the box. Would love to see him signed, even if it was to bung him in the reserves and bring him through.

Terry Skiverton, the Yeovil manager, was in attendance, introduced himseld to Pardew before the game, not much said, just made Pardew aware of who he was and said "see you Saturday!"

A few scouts in attendance, heard one of them on the phone before the game saying: "I like the kid Lancashire, but nobody wants to give us a f'in centreback", not sure where he was from!

Great report. What was Papa like? Pacy, skilful, tricky? Describe his goal!

Got himself into the box and slotted past the keeper with a low finish, from what I can remember!

He looked quick and worked hard in the first half, always drifting wide and stretching the defence, liked to chase their defenders down when they had the ball.

Like I said in the report, he faded in the second half and got moved onto the right wing when White came on. I think he'll be extremely useful when he's match fit.

I was at the game too. Agree with the above report in everything ,espeacially their nippy little winger who really was a handful, looked the best player on the pitch.Papa Waigo will be an asset but I think it may take a little while for him to get going properly.I dont think not speaking english is helping at the moment.Nice to meet up with "saints fan cam" and "the fat controller" who spoke to AP before the game,I am sure he will be on later tonight or tomorrow to tell you what he said.

Good summary above...my five-penny worth to add to this would be...

Stand-out players would be Jaidi, Gillet, Mellis and Holmes. Papa was OK - hard working and wants the ball, but to me he seems a bit of a raw talent. Other players were OK but nothing to write home about - even Pulis put in an OK shift, although the game largely seems to pass him by.

Paterson is a weird one - flashes of a good player about him, but I cannot see him making it as a top L1 striker let alone someone capable of pushing on to the CCC. I noticed sometimes when challenging for an aerial ball he doesn't even bother to jump. IMO he will end up missing more than he scores - IF he ever gets into a position to score....in fact I will go as far as suggest that Lallana is a better strike option up front with big Ricky.

Anyhow, nice to meet with Sad Saints Fan and The Fat Controller. Must've been mad driving up in that rain (although it was reasonably pleasant in Hungerford). Oh yes, apparently AP told The Fat Controller that he is looking at two more signings - Camara will not be one of them!

I heard the name Ryan Mason mentioned between Pardew and the scouts a few times but upon looking him up it appears he's on loan at Yeovil from Spurs, the scouts were raving about him, so we may need to watch him on Saturday.

Some more reserve players at Spurs were mentioned but I didn't catch any definite names, I think I may have heard the name Adam Smith, it would appear he's a right back in their ressies who had a month on loan at Wycombe recently. Could come in on loan as cover in the RB position?

Yeah ok ok, never mind all that, all we want to know is did he do the dance FFS...! ;)

from the champions league and serie A......to swindon reserves. Surely he should have been the stand out player? Match fit or not.....?

Well, he wasn't a regular Serie A player, I'm fairly sure he's not even got 50 Serie A games under his belt.

Also, has he ever even played in the Champs League? Saganowski has played in the Champs League for gods sake and Euro 2008, but he looks ordinary at League One level!

Papa looked good enough last night, just lacking a bit of match fitness, but he worked hard, showed some nice touches and got himself a goal, what more did you want? The pitch was garbage, the wind was blowing a gale and the opposition mixed it up well, it was never going to be a night for sexy football!

good report although acording to the OS there was only one sub. Preen came on for jaidi and White remained un-used.

Now as its likly there was no-one there from the OS as there wasnt an opertunity to sell sessions in there physio room Oxfordshire Saints report is probably more acurate lol

White did indeed play, he replaced Melis and went upfront, with Papa moving to the right wing.

Preen replaced Jaidi.

Like I said, you was there so your report holds more weight than the OS who report this

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ReservesNews/0,,10280~1798360,00.html

Saints Res: Forecast, Argent, Lancashire, Jaidi (Preen 75), Tafazolli*, Pulis, Gillett, Mellis, Holmes, N'diaye, Paterson.

Subs (not used): Dovey, McNish, White.*Replaced Molyneux in the warm up.

Im guessing they got the match report passed via word of mouth.

Sloppy journos!

It made sense taking Melis off, he'd had a good game and is almost certain to be involved against Yeovil. Wouldn't be suprised if he starts.
