Any thoughts on why Steve McManaman was in the Directors Box as a Liebherr invited guest ?

Morph

In January 2009, McManaman gave a press interview where he revealed his intention to go into management. "I’m still thinking of getting back into the game and hopefully I will do my coaching badges at some point this year...It is going to be hard, though. There seems to be far less jobs available for the younger guys. Paul Ince, Roy Keane, Tony Adams – it seems as if people have got it in for them. It’s becoming a bit less attractive...If I do get back in, I don’t want to be a coach...I want to be a manager, but that’s easier said than done...I want to be able to pick the team, make the decisions and everything that goes with it. That said, I can’t do anything without my badges," he told the Liverpool Echo.[70]

BTW...he's "only" 37....HCDAJFU in the third tier of English football?

Player-Coach anyone?

:D You are joking aren't you?

He retired nearly 5 years ago

If you think Papa Waigo and Jaidi are rusty because they haven't played all summer imagine how long a 37 year old that hasn't been a professional for 5 years would take?

If he was in the directors box then it won't be for a playing role, it will either be just as a guest or a backroom role.

John Barnes and Jason Macateer should be warning enough and having heard McManaman insightful punditry then its no, no and a third tier no.

How does Morph know he was an invited guest anyway? Thought Morph and his bosses were history having flattered to deceive and the realisation you don't actually get anything for nothing these days not even the bare bones of a football club.

As I sit right in front of the Directors Box I am able to see who is in the Directors Box.

McManaman was seated amongst the Liebherr party and so I think it is pretty safe to assume that he was one of their guests. Gordon Strachan was also in the Directors Box on Saturday BTW.

I am just passing on observations.

Thanks Morph. They are observations and well received but lets not embellish them with your assumptions dressed as facts of him being an invited guest of Mr Liebherr.

I agree, it's just as likely that he'd broken in or was working there as a waiter.

Thank you for raising such an important point of clarification.

We could offer him some work experience...

Don't you think that it's a fair assumption that if he was with the Liebherr lot in the director's box then he was invited ??

Maybe he's just a friend of a friend (christ, even I've done it at Chelsea!) but I think it's a bit much having a pop at Morph for his pretty logical assumption !!

I saw McManaman leaving SMS in a goup which included Oldknow amongst the party.Perhaps they have some connection from their days on Merseyside, both collecting hubcaps or whatever in their younger days.

McManaman seemed quite happy to talk to supporters, pose for photo's, sign autographs and talk to supporters. He certainly went up in my estimation for the way he conducted himself here.

Don't suppose anyone asked him "what are you doing here though ?".

And Stuart Gray on Saturday!!!

Didn't notice Stuart Gray but Kevin Bond was in the Corporate seats for second match running. And Oldknow & McManaman looked as if they knew each other, and were talking quite a bit before the game and at start of second half.
