S-Clarke Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 I saw that, no idea what that article is about. There is 1 sentence in the entire article from pards - where he is actually praising him. What's that about? slow news day imo!

dubai_phil Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Leitch has obviously been watching & reading too much about Liverpool. Commentary team down here went on and on about Lucas having critics and he was sliencing them. Must have heard that and decided he could do the same story down here just change names and get a sexy headline. Molehill out of a Man Mountain. Seems not only us lot on here finding things difficult to talk about when all is going so well!
krissyboy31 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Sh!te article, from a sh!te journalist (or should I say writer because I don't want to offend journalists). Bring back Hiley or Brunskell or East!!

alpine_saint Posted 28 October, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 October, 2009 yes, but then the Headline should read Saint Dean answers his critic..... not criticS Somehow not so "sensationalist" Was going to make the same point but decided it bordered on pedantry. Also, AP has not hinted at any sort of dissatisfaction with DH in public, so the whole thing is news to the fan base anyway. Its sloppy journalism however you look at it. krissyboy31 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 not seen hard copy but the link seems to say that Pardew expected goals from him rather than fans. Seems fair enough. Does that mean he was being criticised? I don't think so. Pards will want more goals from midfield, which is fair enough but strikers get criticised for not scoring goals not midfielders. Anybody attending the games know how much Hammond adds to that midfield, he's been one of the players of the season, so far. If he's adding goals, then all the better but "answering his critics?" Bullsht!!
NickG Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 yes, but then the Headline should read Saint Dean answers his critic..... not criticS Somehow not so "sensationalist" quite possibly, think most relevant thing to quote is "Full story in today's Daily Echo"! It's a taster for the paper!

There is such thing as positive criticism - guessing article will be something like management team happy with his workman like performances in midfield but felt he had more quality attacking and should get goals - and he has answered them with two in two games. Just take link as advert rather than a report in its own right
Lazlo78 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 ...Pardew expected goals from him rather than fans... Wait, now you're confusing me. Did Pardew expect goals from the fans? Or did Pardew expect fans from Hammond?
hypochondriac Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Pardew is quoted as saying he is criticising him so where's the problem?
hypochondriac Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Pardew said: “He’s a workmanlike midfield player. “He hasn’t got the finesse of a Morgan Schneiderlin but he can pop up with a goal. “I’ve been criticising him for not scoring and he’s answered me with two goals in two games, so I’m pleased for him.” So sounds like criticism to me, Pardew even uses the word. Thedelldays Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Pardew is quoted as saying he is criticising him so where's the problem? It is the echo. So the default position is that the echo is full of crap
S-Clarke Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 So sounds like criticism to me, Pardew even uses the word. ahh...that wasn't in the echo earlier. all you had was the writing above it and 1 sentence from pards “He’s a workmanlike midfield player.'' so they've obviously just updated it so it makes more sense! RedAndWhite91 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Dean Hammond has been playing exceptionally since he joined. Pardew's criticisms most likely would have been constructive, or even banter, yet the writer has blown things out of proportion. Well done Echo, well done. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 If Dean Hammond gets bashed for not scoring enough from midfield then just imagine the lorryload of crapola Morgan Schneiderlin must take every day - for the first time in my life I feel sorry for a Frenchman . Pat from Poole Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 Adam Leitch lives in Scotland FFS. Yup, heard him saying this when commentating on the Carlisle away game on Solent. I thought he came across as an articulate guy with a genuine passion for Saints, would be good to hear him commentating more often, as Merrington does have a tendency to repeat himself and state the blindingly obvious.
