There is not many who did - many missed the Villa away game.

I know of myself, Jim Barnard, Kenny Gibson, Graham Kitcher, and Tim McGarry (sp?). Anyone want to add a name?

What's happened to Jim? Haven't seen him for ages.

Would have thought Jan aka ladysaint would have been in that list somewhere.

As a poor impoverished teenager at college I missed out on the mid week Villa away replay (lets face it Hughies last minute goal at The Dell seemed more like a stay of execution rather than a great chance to progress ) and Bradford ... can't remember the ransom the gits at Bradford wanted for tickets, but wouldn't surprise me if it was more than the semi finals and defo more than our home tickets (they were at least 1 div below us). :-(

Went to Villa game at Dell, missed replay. Saw Blackpool game with amazing Paul Bennett goal. Went with mates in back of a pick up to WBA, but broke down at Bromsgrove so missed game, saw replay. Went to Bradford, saw the flying Party Seven. Missed Palace due to 6th Form Geog Field Trip in North Wales with BWS Salisbury. A fruitless Sunday spent trying to find somewhere in sheep ****gingville where we could view highlights. Went to Wembley courtesy of cup-tie voucher from league game in November possibly Oldham?

I went to all games

Four of us went up to Villa Park for the 3rd rd replay Sat next to a lad from Bournemouth (not many Saints fans in a 40k+ crowd)

Next saw him a mile or so away from Wembley after the Final as we had cars parked next to one another!!

Good story

I only went to Villa away because I was staying in the Gateway Hotel at the time and John Tubbs the manager was a big Saints fan and talked me into going in his car.

Duncan lots of flu about at the time. Recollect Sir Michael de Channon (as he was called on he European Tour) was suffering, as was a couple of other team members at the Hawthorns.

I wasnt too chipper either but had a stand seat with the bulk of the 10,000 or so Saints fans to our left standing on the away end.

btw my Cup Final ticket was £6 and we sat next to the steps up to the Royal Box .

After the final whistle an old chap raised his hands to the heavens and said ..'This is unbelievable. Thank you Lord you may as well take me now'.. always thought this would have been a wonderful time to go at a time of delerium (but then would have missed the glorious return to Soton, the all night **** up, the Sunday tour and the Monday night QPR game!!

Remember Tubbsy. Used to know a lot of the Wessex Hotel crowd thro local football and pre match Dell games

Noel Burke and I and, if it's the same Jim we discussed on PM, Jim Barnard.

Ask Jim if he knew Noel and me, if he does then ask him how we got to Villa Park and who was the other guy (who did the driving).

Steve Jones (Eastleigh), Robin Richardson (now Eastleigh) and Mick Lucas.

Apart from yourself and those you name I know of no others.

I only missed Villa replay - many happy stories from that season!

West Brom at The Hawthorns was a fun day - but I think it was well covered in the "Soul Cellar" thread!

Seems strange but I get the impression people may be saying the same about a run to Wembley this season! So it's the JPT...so what?

Jim is working very hard, he owns the Watersedge restaurant at Mercury Boat yard Hamble pop down to see him they do a lovely pint of Abbotts ale !!l think he will be doing a few games after Xmas.

I still have reservations as to whether I travelled to Villa away with Jim Barnard, as that was the first time I met him. Jim, whatever his name, did travel with us on some coaches that particular season. Just trying to get to the bottom of what his surname was!

No you didn't travel to Villa with me that game. Drove up and picked up a couple of lads from Hythe on the Winchester bypass. ****ed of with having to take them all the way back to Hythe afterwards. Mind you didn't expect what was going to happen that year. 75 to 78, what great years following Saints away.

So you are Jim? If so that leaves me with an even bigger puzzle! FF mentioned Jim Barnard as living in Fair Oak, or going to games with the Fair Oak Saints. So that put me on the wrong track!

I wonder who the Jim was who I travelled with then!

Apologies, they were great years weren't they!

Yep that me! fos of Fair Oak Saints. Yep I'm sure we did travel to a lot of games together. Lots of games using Trev's Travel picking up in Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford. Jelly and Noel were usually on board for the Eastleigh lot.

Then we must certainly have met on a few ocassions! Ian Jelly, Noel Burke, Steve Jones, Paul Allen, Maurice Annells (R.I.P.), Ross Shakespeare, Ian Mead and myself almost always travelled together on those coaches.

We used to sut at the back, drinking from Party Sevens and bottles of spirits.

If we weren't on the coach then we went by train.

Do you remember Dougie Goodenough travelling on a few of those coaches? Skate terw@!

I only missed the WBA home game because I was up in Derby in a meeting until after 5:30.

For those that went to the Villa replay I can offer the Birmingham Evening Mail from that night with the "egg on face" comments from their reporter :-

"Take Andy Gray, add John Deehan, supply them with the right passses... and you have an Aston Villa string force which can blast Southampton out of the F.A. Cup tonight"

"The Gray-Deehan partnership are bound to unsettle the South(blank)ampton defence...Between them, they have scored nine goals in the last five home games; incl 5-1 over Sheff Utd, 3-1 over Everton and 4-1 over WHU... scorelines which MUST shake Southampton's confidence"

"There can be only one forecast.....Villa must be taken to go through with goals to spare".

Hi Brother of Nick H here and I can confirm that I was lucky to watch every game in the 76 Fa Cup season. It was only a last minute thing that we decided to go to the Villa replay and after that game we decided to follow the Saints till they got knocked out and to our total joy we went all of the way. I have some fantastic memories of that season and some funny stories. Perhaps another day.

Don't need any medals as the memories are worth more than anything. I was just lucky to be a saints supporter during those fantastic times something that the current generation of saints fans have not yet experienced. Perhaps they will be in that position in the next few years.

i went to every game, along with Jeff O.

I think Paul Lewis, Pirate Paul of the Tee Shirts, did them all except for Villa away if my memory serves me well.

Different mode of transport for each away game

Car To Villa

Coach to WBA

Escort Van( 6 aboard) to Bradford

Train to Semi

Back to Car for final

Good days and probably cost no more than £50 for all travel,

:smt082 In those days we spent far more on beer than we did on getting in to the game. With my limited intake these days and the price of tickets I can't!

Ian Mead?

Saw him at Orient last week?

We walk our dogs together sometimes. Wouldn't want to cross him mind you - he cuts a formidable sight even these days!

Oh yes! He was a bit of a lad our Ian. Went all through school with him and his brother, Colin, was in my brother's class. We've been in a few scrapes together and also had a few fallings out (Ian is a Celtic bhoy) wisely, on my behalf, stopping short of fisticuffs!

Ian didn't get to see the 76 Final in person. He was 'otherwise engaged', if you get my drift.

Yes he was telling me about it - happened at Leyton Orient apparently which is why he made the sentimental trip back there last week!

He is about 6 feet 4 inches and wide as a tank. When I first met him in the woods he had a big stick with him and a ferocious looking alsation and the gruffest voice I ever heard.

Put the wind up me a bit but I see him regularly now and he enjoys a yarn about the god ol days. Will pass on your regards. He told me he is going to Gillingham!

I think there is a lot of older fans getting interested again.

I went to Villa game along with 8 others from Basingstoke in a Transit, infact I went to all the games except the final...my trusty Ford Anglia broke down on route from Basingstoke to the Dell to buy the ticket...how pig sick was I !!!!

Did you know for the 4th Round home tie v Blackpool Aston Villa had a coach load of fans at the game. They were so impressed with our performance at Villa Park in the 3rd Round they vowed to support us in the next. Unbelievable but true!

My Dad and his mate Bob got to every game. Told a story about a Saints fan being stabbed up at Bradford? but never found out if that was true.

ESB - surprised I don't know you - very familiar with the first 3 on your list - Noel lives in Thailand now - was with him for NYE out there a couple of years ago.
