Pre-season tour?

I know it's ages away, but I was just wondering - now with Marcus at the club, do you think we'll be going abroad for pre-season next summer?

I hope so.

Now we've got Markus, well it's probably Las Vegas I should think.

Or maybe a nice cruise through the West Indies.

Then again there's always St Tropez or Val D'Isere...

;)

The club don't normally decide pre-season trips until April - early May, or certainly in the past it has not been made official until then, would be good if they did go somewhere different for once, have done trips in 2001 to Feyenoord, 2006 Sweden and 2007 Norway. Scandinavia in the summer is superb, Switzerland would be good play a couple of small sides and maybe a bigger one to keep it interesting. Even playing 2nd division teams in Scotland would be ok. Not sure if the Ibiza tournament still goes on but that would be good.

Pre-season have been to Holland, Sweden, Norway, Scotland would like somewhere different but not expensive to get there.

That would be just about anywhere on the continent in preference to the UK, wouldn't it? It's cheaper to get to Italy on Easyjet than Birmingham on the rail network.

A return to the Rock would be great.

"We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,

We're on the rock,...."

I can't afford to re-mortgage again, so Norway is out.

the temptation of Svarstad away would be too much. Attendance of about 200 and half-time entertainment strolling onto the pitch for a kick-about.

somewhere like Latvia would be good. Skonto Riga away.

How about Dubai :)

I beleive ML has a pad out here .... late july, early August temps will only be around 46c .. :p

your more likely to get Notts County out there, but i'd be up for it. Might buy up some factor 50 next time i'm in boots just in case.

If you are going to do a tour, you need to go to somewhere with a "summer" league and play against match-fit teams, otherwise there is little benefit.

I fully agree. Add to that some serious competition, like a side regularly (okay, for the past 2 seasons) playing in Europe, and bingo! BATE Borisov are here and waiting for all Saints fans to come and enjoy the totty, errr, I mean footy. :D

Failing that, even Poland, Lithuania or Latvia would be good.

Hmmm, as I live in northern Italy, how about a few training games here (the altitude helps the lung power) plus a few games here and in Switzerland (for Marcus) and Austria. If they did I might even jump in my car and be a desperate Saints fan...

I was just considering that a Four-Nations tour would be fun for ML and his friends to see Saints in action.

Italy, Germany, France and of course ..Switzerland.

Not TOO much travel and maybe the club could suggest a reasonable travel package for fans who want have a short continental holiday.

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of Saints fans who travelled to Sweden in the early period after 2001- especially when Strachan was manager.

Went to Minsk for the England game last year and would happily go back again, decent birds and good drink up, not sure about the food though!

How many saints fans were in Sweeden and Norway roughly?

Always hard to call as there is no "away end" as such and there are always a fair few Scandanavian Saints in attendance, but I'd say anything between 50 and 100 at the games I've done, always been a good crack.

Also, for those moaning about the prices in Norway and Sweden, Switzerland won't be much better I can tell you!

Think one of the Baltic states would be spot on for long weekend in July please :D
