Strachan watching Saints v Hartlepool...

as was Alan Irvine - the Preston manager. I expect Irvine was there to see how Trotman was getting along - but Wee Gordon? Probably there to watch Adam Lallana steal the show & I wouldn't bat an eyelid if Boro put in a January bid for him. Especially after tonight's display...

Could be something innocent like Strachan wanting watch some football tonight and Middlesborough is only 10 miles away from Hartlepool where Southampton one of his old sides were playing.

Possibly. A sh*tty night to be out & about though. You need more skins than an onion up in that neck of the woods! Either way - Strachan couldn't fail to be impressed by Lallana's classy display.

With Boro on the verge of losing Adam Johnson, (rumoured to be heading to Sunderland in January) maybe Strachan was casting his eyes over the progress of Adam Lallana as a direct replacement. Admittedly they are slightly different players, but AL has proven that he can do a fantastic job on the left.

Alternatively, WGS could have been attending a game which involved one of his former clubs, and considering he's not too far from Hartlepool, he wouldn't have had to go too far out of his way to get there. ;)

If Adam continues to play as he has this season, and improves, then I can see his sights being set a little higher than 'Boro though.

The good news for us though is as his stock grows, so does the price tag. We must be in a position now that if we let quality go - we buy quality back in.

spotted him coming in whilst I was in the queue to get a drink/some chips (v. good chips BTW). Perhaps he was looking for a defensive midfielder to make 'Boro more resilient in the middle, and had heard of this young prospect coming through the ranks by the name of Paul Wootton? Bet he was delighted to see Paul come off the bench to get 20 minutes. Perhaps a sneaky bid in January?

Maybe he was just returning the training tops that where delivered to his house just after Wotte was sacked.

LOL.

I thought Middlesbrough were in for Lambert in the summer but had to sell a player first which meant he came to us.

Perhaps they're following up their interest?

Or it's the training tops.

My first thought as well.

Managers are football-holics and will go to see any game anywhere, if they think it may help their club.

Don't suppose for a minute that WGS is out to sign Lallana, as I understand there is a short queue of Prem.club in front of 'Boro.

AND as we " don't need the money " anymore, we can afford to say No to any amount of £millions you like. However there does come a point in time when it's silly to refuse..but we 'aint there yet ! Thanks to ML/NC.

I fear Bournemouth have a 25% sell-on clause though.

Parachute payments still intact for a couple of seasons.

As they were for Saints, Charlton, Norwich, Derby, Reading, Leicester, etc., all of whom have slid into the relegation places in the CCC not long after dropping out of the Prem. If you don't challenge in the first season out of the Prem you'd better be hacking away at your running costs or you're doomed.

Lucky for Boro they're only a few points from playoff spots at the moment and they still have the chance to push on using what they've got if they can keep them for 6 more months.

FWIW I can't see us selling anyone, we're in the position to offer security and new contracts for once.
