Marsdinho Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 Also, how can the skates afford a ladies team.... http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/Squadnews/ladies/Blues-Put-Five-Past-Saints-1168.aspx
Saint Garrett Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 I think our ladies team just wasn't part of the club, but could still call themselves SFC, I maybe wrong though, tbh this is a complete guess !
Saint_clark Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 They used to be a part of the club but after relegation they became self funding.

SaintDonkey Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 They used to be a very good side - I think they've won the women's FA Cup 8 times or something (including in 1976 ). They've been drifting down the pyramid in recent times and at the risk of garnering the vitriol of the 'women should out of football' mob I think it would be good if Markus re-estblished the links between the men and women's teams and punted some dosh the way of the women to arrset and hopefully reverse their slide. It's great if ladies want to play football too but if Marcus is spending more cash I'd rather it went on improving the men's team and associated infrastructure. I fully agree that Markus should fund Southampton Ladies FC After all, once he has done this, we will have more of a case to ban women from St Marys, as they will have the ladies team to go and watch. The first priority has to be the men's team obviously - but the amount we're talking about to properly fund a women's team probably wouldn't cover the wages of a third choice right back. If it came done to a choice between Anthony Pulis and funding the women's team I'd go for the latter!

That was a different team, Southampton Women's FC. Although they claim otherwise on their Pitchero website, Southampton Saints were only formed in the late '80's/early 90's as Red Star Southampton or RS Southampton (not to be confused with Road Sea). They play in Waterlooville FFS!!

If it came done to a choice between Anthony Pulis and funding the women's team I'd go for the latter! Better value too: all part of generating the community spirit. I play in Italian regional football. Last season the players were moaning like anything about having to pay for our training and representative kit (the stuff we wear on the way to matches) as we'd lost a sponsor. But no subs to pay: for the pitches, trainer/coach, physio, training twice a week, coaches to away matches. In women's football in the UK it was a constant scrabble for funds. If that can be done for a side from a small place Southampton ought to have a decent team to represent it, and it really is cheap in the overall scheme of things. Good experience too for anybody working towards their coaching badges.
marc_saint Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 A girl who works for me plays for them and they are a pretty decent side. As previous posters have said they play at a lower level these days but last season they won their league with ease winning every game apart from one draw. http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/southamptonsaintslgfc/#_
bowers-sfc Posted 26 July, 2010 Share Posted 26 July, 2010 My sister plays for the under 16 team, and although not directly linked with the club, they do supply them with full home kit for the whole team, including manager and coaches.
